Yeah, Matt isn't here so J-GL gets to have is 15 seconds of fame in the latest episode of Teen Titans which features a Freaky Friday esque plot in which everyones' two favorite female Titans get their minds switched by the Puppet King who has also put Cyborg, Beast Boy and Robin under his control. Can they save the day??? Well, you all know the answer it's just more fun to watch the episode and see what crazy antics the Teen Titans get into this time. :D

If you listen very closley and wish very hard you can hear some of Batman Beyond's old beats in the background.

Um anyone else notice Beast Boy checking inside his puppets pants (and giving a disapproving look) when Robin says that whoever built the puppets got all the details just right? :)

Well just seen it right now, and I say the only thing that is holding back on the rating is the less comedy on it, but the girls even while swiched on diffrent bodies was still very good, hope the next episode will suit me best. :anime:

It was pretty entertaining!! Even a little better than "Nevermore."

Pro:
+ Beast Boy looking down his puppet's pants. LOL!
+ All the little TT puppet shows... :D
+ Starfire doll was adorable.
+ Animation seemed very fluid, especially with Starfire's hair.
+ liked the little lights at the end when they returned to their original bodies.
+ nicely done fight scenes.

Con:
- The villain was like a mix of that famous evil doctor (so famous I forget his name), french, and a nerdy-looking puppet... Huh...
- I got really sick of Raven's "Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos.."

Saw the preview... Aqualad looks nothing like I pictured him.

So Raven starts to tell Starfire about her past, and then BAM--commercial break. And then they come back and don't mention anything about their pasts ever again. I mean, we're how many episodes into the series now and we've yet to have even a LITTLE bit of the Titans' origins explained!? Just give us a friggin' origin episode already!!!!!

Otherwise, it was a good episode. Nice comedy (though less than I thought there'd be) and the character interactions were great, as always. Music still could've used some work though (it's just so generic and unnoticable) but otherwise it was another great episode.

Starfire is Raven and Raven is Starfire but the Teen Titans "Switched" Episode Review is still the Teen Titans "Switched" Episode Review.

This was a pretty fun episode. There were a lot of highlights in this episode: The opening where the Puppet master was making his Teen Titans act out a meeting with him, Star Fire bugging Raven where Cyborg, Beast Boy and Robin are, the Teen Titans getting the puppets in the mail and playing with them (you would think though they would have been more cautious in getting their mail, but oh well), there actually being a reason why Starfire and Raven switched bodies (the Puppet Master trying to take over their bodies but Raven's spell managing to save them, even if it wasn't the way they wanted), Raven and Starfire trying to get each other's power, them revealing their history to each other (to bad we didn't get to hear it), the final battle in Puppet Master's hideout, and the ending where Starfire and Raven each wanted to do something the other wanted. I give this episode an A+.

Raven and Starfire are the two best characters on the show so you know this episode would be good. And I loved it. Lots of sweet moments between them and great insight on their characters. I missed the next episode preview tho. So Aqualad's a pretty boy aka "bishounen"? Kickin' that anime up a notch again I see.

This is definatly an equal to "nevermore" from last week. I was expecting too much comedy but insted this was handled just fine. I really like how they started the episode in Raven's mindplace as a nodback to last week. Showing good subtle continuity.

The pretheme opening was wonderfully creepy and set the stage (no pun intended) for the spookiness to follow. The TT's interaction with the puppets were very funny. Especaily Starfire. Seeing them all sleep was cute. (Beastboy talking and cyborg hugging his puppet)

I liked how they used the body switching Cliche to learn more about how starfire and ravens powers differ rather then just have them being clumbsy in the start and getting it in the end for no real reason. It added substance to thier relationships being "forced" pretty much to tell eachother thier stories. (I had a feeling they were going to cut to commersail the second Raven began to explain her origins. Now Starfire knows more about her then we do.) But I like how we're learning about them a little at a time. I also like how this wasn't your typical switching bodies episode. Insted the switching of bodies was only a side effect of the real plot.

I have a certain disaproval of body switching episodes. Haven had grown up in the 80's when this "genre" was pretty popular, and pretty much every cartoon had one. (some still do, Kim Possible and Jackie Chan adventures for example) I had a big problem for ones did just for the sake of doing one where the main charaters only learn the basic "ok so your life isn't better then mine like I thought it was" lesson which we knew they were going to learn from the start anyway. Seeing Raven and Starfire in this situation was a refreshing change. Although they did that other thing in body switching episodes that bothers me even more then plot, when they switch bodies AND voices. I know this is so the viewer doesn't get confused, but it annoys me since they should keep the voices in there respective bodies. (Only The Pirates of Dark Water ever broke this "rule" When Ren and the bad guy who's name I can't remember switched bodies.)

Anything else? lets see, I think there was a refernce to the comic book starfire when they climbed out of the trash and raven said something about starfire's hair while her hair was looking all frizzy. Is that it?... yeah I think that's it. OK review over. You can go now.

I was expecting this episode to be pretty good, and it didn't fail to dissapoint. It took the chiche and gave it a nice twist, as previously mentioned. ^^

The puppet dolls were so adorable, and I like Starfire's round bed (which she was sleeping at the wrong end in) ... cool. The episode was nice, serious, but with enough comedy thrown in that you don't cringe and think a normally fun show is taking itself too seriously.

I did some internet searching on Raven... her past kind of dark and depressing. I can see why they didn't get into it on air, and cut to a commerical break instead. Starfire's is pretty heavy on the drama too.

Anyway, on the next episode preview... everyone see Starfire and I think Raven too going all heart-eyed at Aqualad? Very cute. ::wants screencap.::

This was a grat episode, I too noticed Beast Boy looking down the puppet's pants with a dissaproving look.

The puppet battle scene was great, and Starfire's puppet was very cute. ^_^

Raven is officially my favoirte character. She really officially became my favorite character last week, but now I am 100% sure it's Raven. She's cute and I can relate to her the most.

I hope they release Teen Titans to DVD. I'll review Kenshin when I watch it... I taped both Teen Titans and Kenshin... Hell, I have yet to watch Thursdays Blue Gender...

OVER-ALL GRADE: A

Aqualad? Raven had heart eyes when looking at him? Doesn't that seem a bit... out of character...?

That would be nice. The show has really grown on me:)

Anywhom, this was another good episode (just as good as last week's). I loved how they really had to get to know each other, learn about the other person, and really about themselves a bit too to be able to use their powers. And the end was a nice touch, Starfire wanting to meditate and Raven asking to go to the mall. Very nice.

I like where the show is going. The characters are developing and bonding very well. I hate to say this and all...but it doesn't feel like X-men or some other group, where the group are friends, yet you don't feel that they're really bonding. Those groups don't really feel that the characters like one another, but just kind of help each other...for the hell of it. I know it kind of feels that way sometimes in TT too...but...eh...I can't explain it any better. I think it has something to do with how many characters there are. Just not enough episodes to develop lots of characters and move the over all plot along.

The Short Review:
"Switched" was a great episode, as good as "Sisters", but not as good as "Nevermore" (the best episode yet).

The Slightly Longer Review:
I was looking foward to this episode mostly because of how Raven and Starfire were going to get along (I thought that they were going to fight or something). They were both pretty funny, and I didn't get tired of hearing them. I didn't have too much of a problem with the Puppet King, besides the fact that he seemed like a rather disturbing guy. And it wasn't until this episode that I really realized how cool Raven's powers really are. My only problem was that this episode had yet another cutesy ending in which Raven got along with another member of the team. I kind of like Raven more when she's not acting like that. It's as if there's a problem with Raven not hanging out and being a major team player, and they're slowly changing her character. Oh well.
My official score: 5/5

As for next week:
It looks like Beast Boy get's the spotlight, so I'm expecting a funny episode. As for Aqua Lad, I don't know why, but I have a feeling I'm gonna hate him...

Great Teen Titans Episode! Beast Boy with his puppet, The titans fighting using their puppets, The Girls learning to use each other's powers.. good stuff. :D

I was a little disappointed they didn't show more of the girls sharing their pasts, but if it is dark pasts I could see why they avoided it. I thought I've seen the Puppet Master before.. seems like the idea was used before, just can't remember where.

Anyway, Next weeks episode looks to be interesting.. Introducing AquaLad, who I believe was taken under Aquaman's wing for awhile I think.. can't remember too well, but I remember seeing Aqualad with Aquaman in the old Superfriends cartoons... Also I see they decided to give ALad black hair.. and he appears to be a heart throb character.. just what Beast Boy needs more competition. lol. :D :anime:

Highlights of "Switched":

Positives:

Raven's reactions to Starfire, and the male Teen Titans in the beginning.

"You, not talking."

The subplot of Raven and Starfire switching personalities.

"Raven" hugging the Male Teen Titans at the end.

Negatives:

When the package arrived, it said "Titan Tower" (a WWE reference). 1 shot later it was Titans Tower.

Out of 5 stars, i give it 4.

Favorite visual gag: After "Raven" accidentally blows the 'walk/don't walk' sign, the little red 'don't walk' guy is curled up on his back like he's unconscious. CUTE!

Favorite scene: Robin, Cyborg, and Beast Boy having their puppets beat the crap out of each other. "Hah, I just kicked your butt!'

The episodes continue to improve and this one is no different. Out of all the humorous parts I would have to say the split-second homage to Marilyn Monroe was the funniest. When Raven and Starfire are walking down the street (@ the time the walk/don't walk scene happens) a flume of smoke shoots out of a grate in a street almost blowing up Starfire's skirt just like that video clip featuring Monroe. I was very tired at the time but I'm pretty sure I didn't hallucinate it.

LOL, when I saw the above image of Raven I was cracking up. Also Starfire's puppet is cute.

I actually enjoyed this episode :) Cool. As it has already been posted, the ending scene was great as it showed that Raven and Starfire have come to understand each other a bit more. I thought that was a nice touch.

Also it was interesting to learn how Raven and Starfire's powers worked. Starfire's cute "joyous" emotions to unleash her "righteous" fury opposed to Raven's control over her feelings to focus her destructive powers.

Aye I was disappointed too. I really wanted Raven and Starfire's VAs to roleplay each other's character. That would have been awesome! Oh well.

Yup it was there. Althought that occured because of Starfire being too emotional causing Raven's powers to go out of control and blow up a couple of newspaper vending machines nearby. Screen Cap (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wizardgrey/images/Teentitans/starfireup.jpg)

Hee-hee. A very good ep.

A minor nitpick on my part: how can Starfire and Raven automatically be all acrobatic in each others' bodies? After all, Raven is a heckuva lot shorter than Starfire. It would've been funny to see them tripping over themselves for awhile :D

Also, the little cut-to-commercial thing when the girls started going over their life stories was clever. Don't go ruining everything in one big ol' shot! Folks who have read the old school comics know that both of their histories are rather startling... I wonder how CN will explain where Raven is from and get still get by censors?

Next week's episode looks promising as well. Beast Boy development might also possibly mean some Beast Boy/ Raven development as well. Very cute previews... TT is hitting its stride!

1. It's funny seeing "Starfire's" butt repeatedly blown up by "Raven." :D

2. Anyone noticed that when "Raven" accidentally blew up the walk/do not walk traffic light, in the green guy became a fallen-down dead red guy? :D

3. Here's another anime ref for ya: "Starfire" (Raven) displayed the "angry up-in-the-air twitching hands" when "Raven" (Starfire) was telling her how to activate the Starfire powers. :D

4. "Starfire" (Raven) throwing a garbage bag at "Raven's" (Starfire's) head to hide her was out-of-characterily funny. :D

5. After successfully opening the rooftop lock, "Raven" (Starfire) giggling again, like last week, is just so.......... wrong. :D

6. Next Ep Preview: Does anyone think Robin would act all jealous? :anime:

Really great episode. Im so loving this show. Its so much more characterization driven then Justice League, which just seems to be one big excuse for Bruce Timm to animate grand, glorious and ultimately pointless battle scenes.

Im also glad the more recent episodes have toned down the anime influences (giant tear drops, swirly eyes, bouncing Titans Towers), but still kept the over-all fun feeling. It makes the show seem really special and different. Kepp up the good work.

Great episode.

So far, my only problem with the series is the utter lack of backstory. And the fact that we NEVER see any of the characters out of costume (will Robin ever take off his mask?). Otherwise, it's great.

Great episode, just one problem I have with it: if they switched souls, then why didn't thier voices change for the prescribed body? That sort of thing always bothers me with similar plots in other shows....aw well.

Question about Robin: which Robin is it? Is it the 1st one(circus)? The 2nd? Or a new one?

Anyone notice the little eye twitch Beast Boy gave to Raven when he talked about the fan mail from his many fans?

Just another hint these two will continue to have a close relationship (maybe more...or perhaps something along the lines of JL's GL-Hawkgirl relationship).

Episodes have been getting better since "Nevermore." Raven is definitely a well-developed character. Next week's looks...well, we'll see.

Aye, that voice thing also bugged me. It doesn't make sense since they switched bodies. I guess, as DanniB posted earlier, it helps the viewer to figure out who is who.

Gah sorry, I will try to get an email thing running. Sorry about that

Currently I am using an ATI TV Wonder TV Tuner card (PCI) with chepo VCR, shows are taped at SP mode, Paint Shop Pro 7 to resize images and used "edge preserving smooth" to get rid of the **** ugly lines and color particles that show up, with same program convert bmps to JPEGs. I use the ATI multimedia program included with the card to take screen captures and to capture that mpg. I tried :( to figure out how to make some DIVX files to reduce the size... after a couple of hours trying the only thing I get is odd colored avi files that sometimes crashes my computer. The MPG file I posted is 600 Kbs, with DiVx avi it goes down to around 300 kbs and causes my programs to freeze.

Sorry for going alittle bit off topic

I think it's Tim Drake (who was actually Robin #3), 'cause wasn't Tim the one who used a staff sometimes for fights? Or maybe I'm getting confused here.....

Artemis
09-08-2003, 10:52 AM
Yeah, the real 2nd one was Jason Todd, a Robin nobody liked and was actually voted to be killed off. XD Tim was the staff user, so I'd say this is Tim Drake. The only reason there's confusion is because the creative team hasn't decided whether they want this in the same universe as other DC shows yet, making it possible for him to be Dick Grayson. They'll figure it out by Season 2.

Uh, anyway, some random replies upon re-watching the episode for the third time…

So far, my only problem with the series is the utter lack of backstory. Yeah, it can be a little annoying, but as some of the Titan’s backstory is a bit… dramatic, and this show is so clearly not, (or shouldn’t be) it would be a bit off. I can understand the reasoning behind not airing too much backstory. (Although it would be cool to see some of it animated.)

Like I said before, I liked it. But one thing, a mysterious big box shows up at the tower. Let's open it! For all they new there was a bomb inside ready to go off once it's opened. The Titans need to be more careful. Yup, I couldn’t help but think ‘ya know, there could be anthrax or a pipe bomb in there, just waiting for you to open it, you naive little fools!’

This series is really staring to grow on me, especially after the last two week’s fairly awesome episodes. If this keeps up, I’d consider buying a DVD release, should that ever happen, ::hint hint::

was I the only one who caught the forshadowing last week?

"There is much about Raven we are not meant to understand" (starfire)

I wonder if that was intentional

Did anyone else find it odd that following the line "What if I am stuck like this forever?", Raven's (really Starfire) head started spinning? I found it to be a funny, apropos of nothing kind of moment.

I also noticed the dead 'don't walk' guy, but here's something that no one noticed: the Peter Lorre impression in Tracey Walter's performance as the Puppet King. That was another weird though interesting touch.

Add me to the list of people who dislike the "voices along with personalities are switched" trait. While hardly the only show to do this ("Criss-Cross Crisis" - Powerpuff Girls, "Mind Games" - Kim Possible), it's still kind of a distraction. One show to go against the grain was "2 Stupid Dogs" ("Far-Out Friday"), wherein the dogs still had their voices, but with each other's inflections. More shows should do that...but I'm getting off the subject.

This was a good episode. Not sure what more I can say.

Not that anyone cares, but I thought this episode was the best yet and definately excellent for all those reasons stated prior to my little post. It was really cool seeing the girls figuring out each others powers. I really liked that. And every joke dug a laugh out of me. Fantastic episode.

is it too much to ask to see them wear civilian clothes while not.. ehm, awake?? or when they just got up? :)
Well, let's see. Cyborg doesn't wear clothes. Beast Boy being a shape shifter probably doesn't wear real clothes either. For Starfire, those may very well be civillian clothes where she's from. Raven seems like the type who wears a cape and hood not as a disguise but because she likes them. That leaves Robin, who probably could stand to take his mask off when he's in the Tower.

I really did like this episode....maybe not as much as last week's "Nevermore", but it had its moments. The interplay between Starfire and Raven as both of them had to cope with having each other's body was great, especially when we see the normally spastic Starfire accidentally set off everything in her path in her darker compadre's body. (which made me realize...if Starfire is how MW said she is, why do I think Raven's are bigger?) While I do not like how they cut away when they were just about to reveal the history of the girls in order to figure each other and control why they are like this way and ultimately control each other's powers. And of course, while I didn't really like this week's puppet villain, the puppets he made of the team were pretty cute.

Next Week's Preview:...it seems to me "Starfire Raven" took control at that moment, huh? Poor Beast Boy.

Something I just noticed...The part where Raven and Starfire are standing by the wall, and Cyborg bursts through it, it looked for a second that 'Starfire' shoots into the air. At first I thought Raven had simply managed to fly for a second, then I got a good look. Starfire had actually blasted her sky high. XD

...

It could be due to the color of their clothes. Starfires is light purple so that it stands out. On the other hand Raven's clothing is black, so they don't show up well. The brain might try compensate for the lack of detail due to the color, thus giving a picture that they are bigger. In the previous episode, using various colors of Raven's uniforms especially the white one made them appear different...

Ok, I am now in the land of confusion, why does the color mater much in the series unless it signifys(sp?) somthing that they are eaither powerful or just need a way to hide them selves, I still don't get much of it there.

I think Robin wouldn't really take off his mask in the tower since like Batman (I'm assuming) he wouldn't want his team mates to know who he is. After all, Batman hasn't revealed it to the Justice Legaue (Superman already knows though) and from what he said about Raven in "Nevermore" I'm guessing he's one of those I don't want to bother you by asking questions about who you are and where you came from if you do the same to me kind of guy.

One of these days I'm gonna review Teen Titans the day after it airs... but not this time (5 days late :( ). Alright this one was more actiony than what I thought it would be. I assumed it would be all comedy, but I'm not complaining... 5/5.
Ok, I'm feeling ill... I'm just gonna do quotes and such now... :(

Fav Quotes:
"Titans, go.... hey aren't you guys coming?" "What's the point, we can't possibly defeat the Puppet King." "He is too clever and powerful, not to mention good looking." "Yeah, we should probably just surrender now." "Dude, I think we already have." "Bravo, bravo, but enough rehearsal, time to start the show."

"My eyes are closed, Starfire, I haven't seen anyone." "They must be doing the 'hanging out' someplace."
"We might journey to the mall of shopping or perform braiding manuevers open each other's hair..."
"Azarath, Metrion, Zin-" "MAIL CALL!!"
"Honestly, I was kinda hoping for chocolate."

"Aww, isn't that cute, puppet Cy has a light up eye." "Yeah, they got all the details just right." "Speak for yourself, I'm way better looking than this... and taller." "Someone certainly has a lot of time on their hands." "Hmm! Hmm! I have never seen such a wimsical (spell check plz...) device. Hello Starfire. Hello tiny wooden replica of Starfire." "Dude my puppet is totally kickin' your puppet's butt!"

"What if I am stuck looking like this forever!?" Spin
"Peace, quiet, tranqu-" Boom
"What do I have to feel to use starbolts?" "Righteous furry!" "Your alien strength?" "Boundless confidence!" "Nevermind."
"You know those words I always-" "Yes!" *breathe* "Wait you have to focus!"
"Look at the ground and imagine- wait!
"You might choose flowers, or kittens, or the laughter of children, or-"
This will be where I put a random quote from another show: "The laughter of children! I cannot stand the laughter of children!"
"You not talking..."
"Search and destroy, I do not want an audience."
"Dude, get your butt outa my face!" "Can't move... deal with it."
"You're hugging me..."

Fav Moments:
The puppet show, duh
Raven trying to meditate at the beginning
Actually Beast Boy was looking down the puppet's pants...
Titans playing with their puppets
Um... the way Starfire sleeps...?
Raven's hair when she screamed
Rapter!!!
Puppet King, his voice and eye balls are just funny
Zombie boys had really funny expressions throught the whole thing
Panicy Starfire erm... Raven... uh... I'll just refer to their voices...
Raven trying to fly
Drooling Cy
Raven throwing garbage at Starfire
Starfire hugging the titan dolls
Ending battle scene, I'm not gonna post each detail...
Cept for G-force faced Robin :p and Raven kickin butt in Star's body
The ending, sorta cute.

Least Fav Moments:
Does Raven have to say Azarath etc. every time she meditates...? It's cool otherwise, but it got annoying this time....
