Note that Trial of Duck Dodgers is the original TV pilot. Not the film pilot, mind you. The TV pilot.

First episode was pretty funny! "Nah I'm pretty sure I'll use this expensive targeting computer" hehe! So protectera (sp?) is his official title? thats different.
And episode 2 was for the first time better then the first! "Cadet? You're a woman!" "N-n-n-NO!" man DD is such an idiot! loved cadet and his mech! he rocked those freaky caterpillar girls! http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

Note that Trial of Duck Dodgers is the original TV pilot.
That explains why many references to how it started were included in that cartoon. The part about Duck Dodgers's revival and the end regarding his later future were interesting. The final ruling of "not guilty" surprised me.
The second cartoon today started out good - I even laughed a few times. After the real invaders were revealed, it became less entertaining and more typical.

Guilty Or Not Guilty: Dinner Or Dreaming. Find Out Which one happeins in the Duck Dodgers Episode Review of "The Trial Of Duck Dodgers"/"Big Bugs Momma".
"The Trial Of Duck Dodgers"- So this is the pilot, eh? CN airing it as part of the third episode reminds me of what they did to Teen Titans. Speaking of TT, oddly enough Duck Dodgers as more of a backstory. Dodgers getting frozen for 351 years and then being thawed and made a Space Captain for the Protecerate (because of "Sci fi logic" according to Doctor I.Q) which is a group that Protects earth against the Martian menace. This episode started out slow (the trial) but then progressed wonderfully as it went into how Dodgers nearly doomed the earth put then saved it and gave the planet lots of potato chips. I give this segment an A.
"Big Bugs Momma"- Nothing really that great actually. Probably the weakest DD segment yet. The only things that were funny were Dodgers watching space baseball, blasting away the race that called him for help, and all of the Cadet's attempts to try and warm him about the danger. I really didn't like the end though. I give this a B.
Overall grade: A--

part 1: the best of todays episode. not only funny but deftinely shows dodgers has a clever side. ( though not very often)
part 2: what really made this part for me was cadets expressions and the wonderfull voice acting on his part. ( thumbs up bob! not that joe's a slouch of course;)

It's nice to see them finally incorporate ACME-brand weapons into the show. The laughing gas bit reminded me of Daffy trying to tell the hotel customer his joke about the travelling salesman.

"Trial of Duck Dodgers" (A-) - This one DID seem like it should have been first to me too. :) A solid installment, with great acting and funny gags. ANd, I just noticed how the nacelles of Dodger's ship twirl like the ones on the original Enterprise from "Star Trek"
"Big Bug Mommas" (A+) - Hilarious all the way through. Snappy dialogue, and over-the-top from beginning to end.
And, the preview for the next one did seem VERY Star Trek! Because, the Original Series "The Deadly Years," and a Next Generation episode from the second season (the name of which escapes for now--oh, I just remember, "Unnatural Selection") dealt with aging crewmembers. And, a lot of Star Trek trailers use the "race against time itself" line too. :)

"Trial of Duck Dodgers": Was nice to see Daffy---er, "Duck", come off as victorious for once through his own skills...too bad he got stuck being blamed for the potato-chip cleanup at the end. :-)
Second episode: pretty funny---best part: Porky trying to tell Daffy who he really is (and Porky's reactions throughout).

Highlights of "The Trial of Duck Dodgers" included the opening montage, "600 hours of community service.", Sky Hi on the stand, and the ending.
Out of 5 stars, I give it 3.5.
Highlights of "Big Bugs Mama" included "Captain on poop again.", Cadet crossdressing, the design on those girls, and "Cadet, you're a woman!"
Out of 5 stars, i give it 3.5.
Overall, another very good "Duck Dodgers." Good voice work by all. And the animation was good, too.
Can't wait for next Saturday's show.

I'm glad that they decided not to show the pilot first. I rather if we get a formal introduction to the characters before bringing them all together. In fact, I wish we have seen the agent who brought the charges against Dodgers (sorry, didn't catch the name) before this episode aired. Seeing him before this episode would have helped the viewers understand why he was so intent on bringing charges against Dodgers in the first place. While this episode explains Dodgers' backstory, the relationships were already established between all of the characters in this episode and since he see one of them for the first time, its impact wasn't as strong.
Since this show isn't heavy on continuity and it really isn't necessary to explain the backstory, since the theme song does a nice job of doing that, it wouldn't have hurt for them to introduce the accusing officer before airing this episode.

These episodes were quite amusing.
My first time seeing the whole half hour of Duck Dodgers.. I thought it was pretty good. Seeing as the first one was a pilot it totally makes sense that both episodes had a different feel to them. I didn't really get anything memorable from the Trial one but the other one had some.. all of them had the Cadet involved. The Cadet in disguise trying to tell Dodgers that it was him, The Cadet and the laughing gas incident and then I thought the end was funny with the creature still there on Dodgers.. :D Can't wait to see what's next.

"Juu-kuchi"? Hmm... well, you could help with all the potato chips, then...
Yeah, the second segment was OK at the beginning but just kinda "eh" at the end, except for the punch line.
The idea was reminiscent of one of the early Doctor Who episodes (completely lost but for the audio track and some still images), in which there's a war going on between a group of ugly guys and a race of beautiful women. The crew instinctively sides with the women, but eventually discover that the women are the baddies, while the ugly "alien" guys are peaceful.
I suppose it's not all that uncommon of a sci-fi whack-a-moral.
Best line is one they used in a promo. "Damage report!" "I think I'll be OK." "Not you! The ship!" "Oh. The ship's messed up."
That's almost as good as the Red Dwarf line: "Any damage?" "I don't know; the Damage Report Machine has been damaged."

I gave them both 4/5.
Mostly cause each one had a really funny quote:
"Trust your instincts captain." "Nah, I'm pretty sure I'll use this expensive targeting computer."
"Oh he's in for a world of hurt."
and when Cadet was trying to save Dodgers (cadet dressed as woman and laughing scenes.)

Big Bug Mamas- IMO, Better than the first. Highlights included Dodgers having a brain lag,the "bondage" scene,The Cadet and Dodgers conversations on the planet, the exosuit, and the ending. A+.

I thought it wasn't THAT bad. "Trial of Duck Dodgers" was pretty boring, nobody would shut up! I also didn't like the fact that covering the earth with potato chips would make someone work for 350 years...
The second cartoon was the better of the two, it actually had humorous sight gags and dialogue. The ending totally took me by surprise too...
In other words, I'm still giving "Duck Dodgers" a chance, I'll probably try and watch it on Saturday mornings. :daffy: :marvin:

I'd enjoyed this episode a lot, I liked the guest voices for Captain Star Johnson, and the Martian Queen. Overall: 9 out of 10.

I didn't catch the first cartoon, but the second one was pretty darn good. I liked it better than the others I've seen, actually. Porky Pigt is such a neglected character these days, and it was good to see him doing something funny for once. I also loved the way they did Daffy here...making him naive and girl-crazy rather than perpetually cynical and jealous. I'm impressed with this show so far, and I know there are some of my fellow die-hard LT fans who aren't. Too bad, because it's probably some of the best work I've seen with these characters since the original cartoons. Daffy is likeable, Porky is funny...wow.

Poor Porky, always the one who has to be in drag.
Was that Michael Dorn as the Martian robot? I guess he fits, although it would be nice to see other actual martians.

Hello again!!
My two cents worth for this show buys you this comment for discussion:
I thought that "The Trial of DD" / "Big Bug Mamas", while still not the best half-hour this series has to offer, managed to demonstrate pretty capably how dialogue can develop & enhance the characters & make for some very entertaining stories.
I rated this week's offering a B (A- + B+, respectively).
Have enjoyed all compliments & other comments in this & previous 2 threads, & as we know, BB did too. (I wonder what fashion look the Cadet will have next week, Bob!! )
Thanks again, everybody!!
One question: How many of you are recording these episodes to take a second or third look? Just curious.

*1: See my comment re dialogue in post # 23, Thad.
Though (again) we don't agree, let's see what others, er, have to say!!
*2: :daffy: "Oh, yeah? Have you ever theen the bottom of a bag o' thnackth?! Imagine that in Thinthinatti!! Yeeeshh!!"
*3: Which reminds me, it seems we've acquired another time slot, later on Saturdays, I've noticed!! :)
I only saw the second part. It was an okay episode, though parts of it suffered from the dialogue. I felt the scene where Porky was blasting those worm-things would have worked better without the talk since I think it killed whatever climactic feeling the scene was supposed to have.

You know, I'm noticing a trend. A nice trend. It's this:
Have you noticed that the second feature for each episode seems to always feature beautiful women? For this one, it was the Caterpillar women. Last week, it was the Martian Queen. And the premier featured the female special agent.
Not that I'm complaining, but this seems to be the pattern each week.
Oh, and Mr. Alaskey, you might find it easier to use the quote tags for each comment. It makes it easier to respond to each comment instead of numbering them.
[ quote=username ]Text[ /quote ] (Take out the spaces next to the brackets.)
Example:
Text(Then insert your response below the quote.)
Hope that helps. Keep on truckin' the duckin'!

Don't they call that "snow" or something? (WARNING! CALIFORNIA NATIVE!!)
As for taping the episodes to watch again, for my part, yes, kinda. I record them because PennyCat doesn't have cable TV, so when I go to see her, we watch the episode (for me, a second time). The show doesn't have gag credits and doesn't seem to have much in the way of VCR-pausers-only material, though, so otherwise I wouldn't be taping them.

I liked both (surprise!) Again, I must say the unpredictability of Dodger's makes the show more enjoyable. You really are never sure if he is going to totally mess up or actually show some genuine ingenuity. Unlike Inspector Gadget which was the same scenerio every week, even the cast characters seem unsure of whether Dodgers is competant or not. I really like that.
I'm also glad this was held back - I think the aqquaintance with the characters in the last two shows helped this one along.
The worker's rights piece on the Martian ship was an odd scene. I liked it, but it threw me for six.
Big Bug Mama's was far superior in my opinion. Again, Porky shined without stealing the episode. I loved Daffy's attack on the natives and his dainty foot sweep of his guilty mistake. Wonderful.
I also like the lack of ability Duck shows in indentifying Cadet. It sort of highlights and toys that golden WB drag gag in which characters are so often duped with. I loved that. Great scene. I think this was the most openly randiest I've ever seen a Daffy Duck character as well. :p Yuk.
Very enjoyable indeed.

im watching the rerun.. missed it the other time, work came forth...
And. .it's been nice.. at least duck dodgers has job security...
i liked the lander much like the star trek landers...
and... i wanted to say 'you are the pot roast!!!' .. i just know what's coming, but into what i don't know.
my, porky has never had to snarl like that.. this is really a new dimension not just for porky pig but for a 'character' he is playing. :D
