Reminds me of when you click on a topic and it says, "This discussion does not exist." That doesn't even make sense. How can a topic be there and yet not exist? That reminds me of when Lisa Simpson ended up at Area 51 by riding the wrong bus and a sign said, "You are not here," and it had an arrow pointing to where she "wasn't."

Am I the only one who finds it kinda odd for a block that features anime predominantly (especially FLCL) to be parading around a prase that is inteneded to make anime look bad.
I realize it's "irony" but there are people who agree with the intended phrase and will probabvly take it not as a joke, but as a slogan of sorts promoting teh s ucktitud e of anime on AS.
I'd personally feel uncomfortable wearing a shirt like that, not everyone is in on the joke.

Maybe because so they could avoid paying license to the person from whom they admitted taking the phrase from? :D
(That is, unless the phrase is truly not "original" but rather a common enough phrase in the Net.)

I think you're taking television preference a little too seriously.
But I guess I agree. I think those shirts are very humorous, but I really like anime, and I don't want anyone (especially my anti-anime zealot friend) to get any ideas.

You should wear the shirt along with a Trigun or Cowboy Bebop hat. That'll throw everybody off.
I'd love to get the shirt, but I absolutely refuse to pay $27. Maybe if Hot Topic starts selling them I'll get it. I mean, $20 is expensive for a shirt as it is. I don't need to pay $7 shipping in addition to that. :yawn:

Has it been confirmed that the "send in your proof of purchase" card was a joke? I was thinking about getting one anyway, but if I can get an old script or something with it, I'll definately get one.

I'm an anime fan and wouldn't want to wear that slogan. It's too much of an inside joke for public consumption. I'd like to see AS develop more anime-related merchandise. It's tough since they don't own the anime they run, but they could maybe do something around Big O since CN has half ownership of that series. Or find another, more positive slogan somewhere on their messageboard. (^_*)

Even if it's fundamentally an insider joke, it's so ridiculous that only a moron wouldn't recognize its facetious nature. And if they're an idiot, then rip them up.
I would like a shirt that reads, "i hate big o to its for teh *****es" on the back and has an image of Roger looking flustered on the front.

I'm probably talking out of my poophole here, but it seems to me that saying that something is "teh s uck" (unless it was intended to be a negative comment) is akin to how popular slang takes a word or phrase that has a negative connotation and turn it upside down so it's suddenly cool and hip.
Examples:
bad = good
dog = bro'
dope = cool
bomb = very cool
the sh*t = ultimate cool (But I don't think I'll ever understand how saying something is "the sh*t" makes it cool. I've seen sh*t and it is not cool.)
I think the t-shirt slogan is hilarious. I'm gonna wear one to Anime Weekend Atlanta the end of this month to show my support for AS (I'm an "invited guest" for a panel on dubbed anime).

Has anyone gotten anything from [as], now that they've confirmed that their offer is for real? For that matter, has anyone even mailed in their receipt yet? I've been wanting to order some shirts from them, and finally did today. Be interesting to see what they dig up.

When I originally saw the shirt, I started thinking along the lines of many folks (that it was awesome, but it may get the wrong point across)... However, now that I've thought it over, the 's uck' shirt only really pokes fun at anime-haters who can't spell correctly. ;) Like, those shirts that say 'huked on fonicks wurked fer me'... Obviously, the person isn't wearing it because Hooked on Phonics really worked for them. ;> Just like (hopefully) most of the people who get these shirts don't really think anime sucks.
Of course, clearly ironic or not, this may simply be too 'deep' for the majority of people in society. Ah well.

Well I tried to buy the shirt, I'd just get errors after entering my CC information, and even customer support said they didnt have any info on the item and that they didnt sell it at cartoonnetwork.com... (ironic eh?)
But I'm on both sides of this phrase. No I don't like anime much, but I also love the fact it makes fun of illiterate kids on the ASMB. So this is a double whammy for me, even though, as you say Sanwich, it would probably fly right over Average Joe's head. What a pity. Then again if everyone watched Adult Swim, it wouldn't be as funny.

Well, I got the shirt in the mail Tuesday. Wore it to school yesterday.
Needless to say, not one of my otaku friends got the joke, or even noticed the bad grammar. I mostly got a few assorted death threats and lots of "You Suck".
I soon got tired of trying to explain the shirt and point out this is the block that brought craziness like "FLCL" to TV, and therefore the statement is null and void in all seriousness....
Oh well. I still love the shirt.

*groan* ... I misspelled some of that on purpose...
I just figured it would be more funny not to explain it.
Mainly because i figured most people would have figured out what it is
that i meant by saying "typ rite" on a post regarding some idiot misspelling
some random anti-anime post.
Appearently theres more english teachers online now than ever.
maybe they meant "teh s uck" as in it's cool
but I imagine it was more along the lines of
"anime stinks so i'm gonna make a random post taht i won't even spel check"
I don't mind some errors... but when there that bad they need editing :D
... or do they this guy appearently got known for messing up

... or do they this guy appearently got known for messing upwell mispelling 'the' as 'teh' as been done many times before, and you could almost call it popular. of course 'cus' is just an abbreviation. but I imagine its 's uck' with a space after the s because of the filter's over at ASMB so they spaced it out to avoid the language filter. 'the suck' definatly doesn't mean that it's 'cool'. The whole using adjectives as nouns thing is also played out as hell, i.e. "thats gay" has become "thats the gay" or to put it in terms 12 year olds can understand, "cuz it s teh g ay"
It's all retarded anyways. All I can say is that if you post like that on purpose, (and not just for comedy) or if your just that dumb, you deserve all the bashing you get.

I want that:p I think if I wore it to school I would get some of the strangest looks, though it's really not that different from the shirts that say things like "I used to be Schizophrenic, but we're all better now." Plus, if it's funny to you, who cares what other people think? I'd wear it because I thought it was funny, and if someone happened to get the joke, well, that's even better.

Hmmm, if they do actually give you various scripts or WS items for buying a shirt, what would you want? I would probably ask for the C. Ling Tile from Space Ghost Coast To Coast's Episode "Curling Flower Space" but that's just me.
