That's been like that for a while know. About a few weeks I believe. And yeah, it's kinda sad, but I'm just glad that Totally Spies is not in Toonami. It just wouldn't fit.

I don't know... Toonami shows things like "Justice League", and "He-Man", so it might... In any case, this thread is probably more appropriate for the "Toonami" section, but I won't complain if no-one else does.;)

I guess there were only Eight Weekly talkback threads on TS... just because of new episodes and all, and the big premier of it returning! David Michel said CTN are VERY proud/pleased with Totally Spies' responce to lots of fans on CTN, as well as old TS fans from abc family hoping to catch it as well! :D

Well, I don't know all the details, but the most common theory out there that I've heard is that when "Totally Spies!" was originally purchased by Fox Family, that station was going through the process of being bought out by ABC, which was in turn bought out by Disney, and Disney didn't want the competition with their own "Spy-girl" show (Kim Possible). But as I said, I don't really know. Perhaps someone else with more knowledge of the situation can fill us in?;)

Lol, actually the reason Totally Spies went off abc family was because Fox Family first produced Totally Spies onto their channel, but by the 3rd episode aired, it was re-named abc family, abc family then in june, july etc... kept ordering in more boy action heroes series, and Totally Spies didnt fit, because they wanted Boy action hero shows only. ABC Family is one of the least popular channels, it really should go down, poor ratings with all these shows that are....bad and everything! Shame on you ABC family..

Yes, but when it was purchased by ABC, I believe ABC was either owned by Disney at the time, or in the process of being owned by Disney, and Disney (most likely) didn't want competition with Kim Possible especially by a show they had no control over.

Disney pretty much always owned ABC. They may have created it, I'm not sure.

Plus, remember that TS got good ratings. Boy heroes or not, cancelling a show that proved popular seems pretty stupid. And those good ratings may have seemed threatning to Disney to protect KP. And apparentely, judging by KPs move to 5:00 and not 4:30, still scare them.

It also seems that KP has lost it's steam ratings wise, as kids perhaps grew tired of it, and switched to "Raven". But Lizzie McGuire proved popular for a while, probably since all Hillary Duff does is fall down.

Although, ABC agreement to show TS may have expired, and Marathon may have wanted to much money, or the other shows were cheaper to get.

Disney bought ABC (Capitol Records?) in the mid-1990's.
Disney bought Fox Family around the turn of the century.

Personally, I'd like it if it weren't shown at all..hence why I usually miss the first and last 5 minutes of toonami to avoid that show..it just burns my nerves because of how inanely strange it can get, not to mention the over-riding sense of "Girl Power!" running through that show, to the point of making the three main characters super-heroes. Not to mention they don't particularly function as spies, they function more or less like super agents..and I pulled this from watching the show twice...

Ick.

ABC was formed out of NBC. It was actually a second NBC radio network, NBC Blue. It was sold off and eventually evolved into ABC. It merged with Capital Cities, a big TV station operator that owned Philadelphia's legendary WPVI-TV, among other stations, in the 1980s. Disney bought Capital Cities/ABC, Inc. in 1995.

Not to mention it's utterly ludicrous to tell me that Anime is flat when TS is supposed to be mimicking that style. Which leads me to believe that TS is flat.

Vital lesson for the future: If your going to state a "fact" explain. Saying anime is flat and not providing examples is not good for getting your point across.

And if it's an opinion, say so.

You can all go back to "Is Anime Flat" now.

It hasn't..copied anime...what? Are you kidding me? Anime predates TS by DECADES. Wasn't big here until rather recently, but either way. It is basically an american (and badly drawn) rendition of what an anime tends to be. Cept not as bad of course.

If it originated as a french cartoon, maybe you'd think that America isn't the only place where anime comes on in. America and Japan are the two big animation producers. Unless something totally and truely unique comes along, most cartoon shows that aren't from either country are going to mimic one of the two styles. Just because we've all accepted how animation looks, and how it can look nice.

After watching TS, I'd say Jackie Chan Adventures has more "ZING!" than TS. Not to mention 90% of that show makes little sense. TS I mean.

Your wrong about that.. I knew JAPENESE anime comes from japan and many other countrys...whats 'wrong with you'..jeez, its not like i dont no this and TS hasnt coppied anime at all, if they did, im sure its a lot better, i just saw draganballZ today, the animation is horible, everything looks FLAT meaning the eyes, noses, lips, hair....its all the same color, looks OLD.

Because DBZ's an older series (nearing or over a decade IIRC,) and the character designer went for a particularly flat style. Compare TS to a more comtempory anime series, like say Cowboy Bebop, InuYasha or Blue Gender, and TS's animation doesn't hold up. TS's may be good when thrown up against a decade old show, but it doesn't an chance against any of the newer works. If you don't believe me, tape the anime part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim Block, and watch it, if your parents are cool with it.

Additionally, the French producers, Marathon animation, are very open about trying to reference the anime style. Anime has been popular in France much longer (IIRC from about 1970 or so onward) than it has been America (partially because French dubbed anime meets the content laws, but costs little to aquire and produce.) As such, there is a generation of kids in France that grew up loving shows like Space Battleship Yamato and Galaxy Express 999 TV, and they've now brought those influences into their own creations. Marathon has done it via Totally Spies (and is working on duplicating that style with a new show, Martin Mystère.) Daft Punk, a french electronica duo, did it by directly collaborating with one of their favorite anime directors on the music videos for their album (Toonami ran 4 of the videos a while back.) Sav the World productions, another French animation studio like Marathon, is doing with a show called Molly Star Racer (promo available here: http://www.pocketmovies.net/detail_227.html.)

So, it does copy anime, but only because the producers have a love for it and grew up with it.

With that out of the way, I hold no ill will against Totally Spies. It has a different target than the one I belong to and it seems that 4:30 and 7:00 are both good times to tap into that target audience. Now should shows targeted at girls be shown on Toonami? Well Sailor Moon was on Toonami so you can't argue that way, but I believe there are better shows out there that can appeal to females without alienating the male audience. Inuyasha seems to be a good example of this on AS, as it's sort of hard to determine whether there are more male or female fans of the show. Since America has never been really keen on making cartoons targeted at girls (except for stuff on Nick and Disney stations, good luck on getting those licenses), that basically leaves anime, Canadian, and French productions. So since I'm familiar with anime, I'll name some stuff from that area. Fruits Basket, DNAngel, Escaflowne, and maybe shows like Utena, MKR (yeah I know CN tried to get this at one point), or hell even Cutey Honey could fit. Don't hold me to these titles as I'm not about to go through my fansubs just to check for blood and swearing.

Guess I need a point: Totally Spies would alienate too many male viewers if it was on Toonami, it's fine where it is. If a show oriented towards girls was to show up on Toonami, it would have to also be palatable to males as well.

Anyway, I suppose if it HAD to be on, I'd pick the second slot it's in. That way anyone who doesn't want to watch it can flip it right after Toonami's done. ::Shrugs::

LOL...TS definitely isn't good television. The show is shallow. The characters are shallow. The adventures are shallow. The music is shallow. The jokes are shallow. The villians are shallow. The animation is shallow. There isn't one non-flakey and shallow aspect to this show. That's something even you have to agree on.

I like TS, because it's bad. It's not a high quality show by any means. Redi doesn't like it. I accept that. Not everyone will like a show.

It's more entertaining then say Kim Possible since Kim soesn't know it's bad. It's also not bad enough to entertain. Like how Good Charlotte is bad, but not god-awful bad. Hulk Hogan's album was so bad, it was hilarious.

It's more entertaining then say Kim Possible since Kim soesn't know it's bad. It's also not bad enough to entertain. Like how Good Charlotte is bad, but not god-awful bad. Hulk Hogan's album was so bad, it was hilarious.

Look GC Boy, he/she...Redi said WE ALL agree on TS is a bad show, and have you darred to look at my avaitor, to see my Quote under my username.. No.

It certainly isn't a good show.

This thread has devolved into pointless bickering. It's obvious that the two of you will never agree whether TS is the best thing to come out of France since wine, or a horrible anime ripoff. We're not adultswim.com. Try to act like it.

I would have stopped 'bickering' a few posts before if that kid didnt Speak for all of us when he said we all think TS is bad animation... I'm not against anyone who likes KP or...w/e, im just saying TS hasnt coppied anime and isnt the worst show, why else would CTN have it on everyday almost twice a day except the weekend...

Ok I'm here. Now what's going on... ah yes I see. "It's good. No it's not. Yes it is. No it's not. Yes it is. no it's not. yes it is... bla bla bla..."

Alright Shhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Enough!

I sat through an episode of this show. And cried at the end because I just wasted my tiime.

But besides that I think it's better off airing once a day. Hopefully CN will stop using this show to fill in some empty spaces and put something better in those spots. Though it's NOT A BIG DEAL if things remain as they are. Thanks for reading.
