Hey. I have some questions about Snoopy and Garfield. I have practically seen a lot of their cartoons and read their comics. But I'm confused about some stuff:
1. Like Garfield's rival, Nermal, does Snoopy have a "dog" rival? Does he have A rival?
2. Like Snoopy's previous owner, Lila, does Garfield have a previous owner, of who he shares similar feelings for?
3. Does Charlie Brown has a crush on Lucy? Who does he have a crush on?
Well, those are all my questions. Can you please help? Thanks,

1. Unless the Red Baron doesn't count, Snoopy's only rival is the cat across the street. However, he does have a dog rival in the film "Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown".
2. I don't think he shares any feelings for them, but he may have been owned by the owners of the restaraunt where he was born.
3. Charlie Brown does not have a crush on Lucy. He has a crush on the little red haired girl.

His one rival is the "cat next door", unseen except for hearing its hissing/seeing it occasionally reach a really long claw-bared paw to swipe a huge section, Wolverine-style, out of Snoopy's house. Admit that I never liked that particular character---too one-note of a gag (and I never much liked bullies, anyway...).

Jon is Garfield's sole owner (he was adopted as a kitten from an Italian restaurant, IIRC).

Charlie Brown has a crush on the Little Red-Headed Girl, *definitely* not Lucy (who likes Schroeder).

In the later years of the comic strip, Charlie Brown stopped chasing after the little red hair girl and started kinda dating a girl he met named Peggy Jean.

Yeah, that was probably the best thing that happened in the comics (I have the entire set of that series from a recent reprint). Too bad they didn;t work more to incorporate it into the animated specials (the most I know of was when Charlie Brown tried to get her gloves for Christmas).

Let me add a question:
If Nermal is a male kittykat, then does he sound like a girl in the cartoons?

He's supposed to be a little boy, so naturally a woman does his voice. He's so cute he has a femininish voice.

Thanks for your answers. But, I need to ask you guys a question if it's all right.
Someone who uses/used this forum posted some Garfield comic strips with some Peanuts references (one strip has Garfield going to Snoopy's doghouse and laying on top of it; another has Garfield in the hallway and passing by a mirror, he looks into the mirror and Snoopy looks at back at him and then Garfield says "It's going to be one of those Mondays."). What are the names of these comic strips?
Please help, thanks,

P.S. Is there any comic strip in which someone says "I wonder if Charlie Brown could use a cat."?
On May 27, 2000, several comic strips paid tribute to Charles Shultz in their comic strips. Here (http://images.ucomics.com/comics/ga/2000/ga000527.gif) is the link to the garfield strip for that day where he laid on Snoopy's house.

I meant to say "why does Nermal sound like a little girl." But if he is rather young, then it would make sense to make him sound cute. Having him sound like a little girl is a little too off the mark. Thanks.

Even though Garfield never had any previous owners, Oddie on the other hand was owned by Jon's roommate, Lyman (back when the strip's focusi was on Jon) until Lyman was written out of the series.

The "Garfield's Doughouse" strip says it was from May 27, 2000. However, I saw a strip once in which Garfield looks in the mirror and sees Snoopy, and then he says: "It's going to be one of those Mondays." I recall that this strip mentioned it was from 11-14. But I do not know which year it came out. What year did it came from, and is this the correct date?
And does ANYONE recall there being a comic strip in which someone says: "I wonder if Charlie Brown could use a cat."

Anyone have a picture of peggy jean? I never heard of her before...
Here are some links to pics of Peggy Jean.

Hope that helps. Peggy Jean pics are a little bit hard to come by. I did find a cool shirt at Wal-Mart that shows the peanuts gang including later characters like Peggy Jean, Olaf, Rerun, etc.

After a quick search of garfield.com, I found the comic strip that you are talking about. It was printed on Nov, 14 1988.

Thanks, ~B+, for your help, anyway. Maybe someday I will find out where the quote came from. Someone told me of the quote, but they did not say where it came from. But, still, thanks. However, I presume it was from a comic trip in which Garfield is watching television, for this case: "Peanuts", and he says that. But, hopefully I will still find out where the quote came from.
Thanks, EHAL, for finding it. It was a really big site. But, thanks for finding it for me.
Thanks,

I don't know about in the comics (with almost 50 years worth of material, finding it would be a daunting task), but in the hour long TV show, "Snoopy, The Musical" (which adapts an early 70's off-Broadway play "Snoopy"), during one of the musical numbers (I don't know the title, but the kids sing "Sit up! Lie down! Roll over, Play dead!") , Charlie Brown wonders if he should trade Snoopy in for a cat, after Lucy suggested he trade Snoopy for a couple of goldfish.
As for Snoopy's dealings with cats, somewhere in the 60's, Frieda (with the naturally curly hair) had a cat named Farron, who just seemed to droop in her arms. ("Someone's developed a boneless cat!" Snoopy muses in one strip.) Farron stopped appearing when Charles M. Schulz decided that he culdn't draw cats very well. By the way, Snoopy didn't have a dog rival in "Race for your Life, Charlie Brown", that was a rather ugly cat that Sally thought looked like a dog. A similar cat appears in "Someday You'll Find Her, Charlie Brown".
The Little Red-Haired girl was inspired by listening to Hank Williams' song "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You" over and over again, and memories of an old girlfriend of Schulz's. She was never actually fully drawn by Schulz in the comics. (Bill Melendez's animators designed her TV appearance for "It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown", as Schulz couldn't bring himself to draw what she'd look like. The Red-Haired girl did show up in sillouette in the comics in 1999.)

I just read on the official Peanuts site that Snoopy has a Walter Mitty kind of personality (complex). And, I read that Walter was an animated man designed orignally from comics.
And, I am wondering who was Garfield modeled after? (similarly: Snoopy was modeled after Witty) Is Garfield also similar to Walter Mitty?

Like, he'd be better off with Charlie Brown than living with them.I just read on the official Peanuts site that Snoopy has a Walter Mitty kind of personality (complex). The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was a short story and an old movie (they're remaking it with Jim Carrey for 2005). It was about a guy who had a really dull life and kept imagining that he did really exciting stuff-- a skilled surgeon with a millionaire's life in his hands, for example. That works well for Snoopy-- you know, the Red Baron and all that.

Hey. I have a question regarding Snoopy (well, a few, but they mostly have to do with the same thing):
Garfield hates Februarys (even though it's the month of my birthday), Mondays, spiders, and the mailman. And Garfield is a cat who dug punts. But, what about Snoopy? What month does he hate? What day of the week does he hate? Does he also hate spiders and the mailman? And, does he cat punt? Sorry, I'm just curious.
Please help, thanks,

Snoopy is afraid of cats. He was "The Mad Punter", kicking the kids' footballs all over the neighborhood. His favorite foods are pizza, chocolate chip cookies, an english muffin with grape jelly on it, and Root Beer. He dances around singing "It's suppertime!" when Charlie Brown feeds him. When travelling, he wears his dish on his head like a hat. He likes to kiss Lucy and steal Linus' blanket. Snoopy is also the shortstop on Charlie Brown's baseball team, Pepermint Patty's ice skating coach, the world famous author, a World War I Flying Ace, Joe Cool, Flashbeagle, the world famous attourney, the Beagle Scout troop leader, a Sherlock Holmes type detective who tried to find out who took Woodstock's nest, circus dog Hugo the Great in "Life is a Circus, Charlie Brown" a school bus driver in "Snoopy's Robot", Cupid (in the opening credits of "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown", the kid's chauffer in "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown", he plays the bass in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Play it Again, Charlie Brown", he played the accordion in "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show" and "It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown" and the mouth harp in "A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy, Come Home". Snoopy does way too many other things to list them all here....

Here I found the link of the comic strip I was looking for:
http://images.ucomics.com/comics/ga/1999/ga990924.gif
I also found a "Peanuts" comic strip. But, I don't have the link. But, it goes like:
Snoopy is seen wearing an aeropilot hat and he's laying on his bed, and he says: "Next monday is the Red Baron's birthday". "I have to send him a nice card." "I wonder if he likes "Garfield". I thought this comic strip was cool, but it was not my favorite.
Anyway, here it is.
