I had typed this all up for the DVD forum, but realized it was better suited here. For those who aren't aware, a new two-disc release of Casablanca just came out, and it includes the Bugs Bunny short "Carrotblanca".
I finally got around to throwing my Casablanca DVD in tonight, and my motivation was to watch Carrotblanca. I was in the mood for a Bugs Bunny cartoon. I knew something was wrong as soon as the music started. It sounded too modern. The fact that the cartoon informed us that it was 'Classic Animation" in the title sent a red flag up as well.
It didn't take long to realize this was not what I had hoped for. For starters, nearly every single Loony Tunes character appeared in the first sixty seconds of the cartoon. So I rewound to find the year, and sure enough, it's "classic animation" from 1995.
I apologize to those who worked hard on this cartoon, but there's something about the humor of the era that the originals were made in that you just can't duplicate. That, or the directors were simply untouchable masters of their art. At any rate, no attempt to recreate these shorts will ever FEEL like an authentic Bugs Bunny cartoon to me.
And don't even get me started on anyone other than Mel Blanc doing the voices. Ooops... too late... but I'll keep it to one comment... ever notice that whoever does Daffy Duck's voice now goes WAY OVERBOARD on the lisp?
I haven't seen REAL classic Bugs in awhile. Surely there was some classic Bogart imitation stuff they could've thrown in instead.

This is better suited for the Termite Terrace Forum.

Well, Einbop, at Termite Terrance, the last paragraph could have been corrected, but due to the subpar programming at CN, Bugs classic stuff is extinct. Or if you can wait until late October for the 4 disc LT DVD set...

At the time, Warner had two animation divisions: Warner Bros. Television Animation and Warner Bros. Classic Animation. Classic was designed to distribute cartoons, old and new, with Bugs and pals. It is a strange kind of name, but I guess it was the best thing they could think of. "Warner Bros. Looney Tunes Division" wouldn't sound very good.

I was slightly disappointed in Carrotblanca, as well. It doesn't have NEARLY as many memorable/LOL moments as the true classics (tholugh Tweetie as Peter Lorre was worth a laugh). Notice how nearly all the voice actors were from Tiny Toons? Just an interesting tidbit.
