I think that's a bad idea, if you want it to be kept a surprise then try to avoid threads announcing it until it shows up on the network.
That would be an extremely bad idea.
No announcement = no viewers.
No viewers = no money.
No money = no Adult Swim.

It would be a foolish business move for AS to not put out the word regarding a new acquisition. They don't do enough advance publicity as it is. If they acquire a hot anime or comedy property, good business sense would dictate them putting out the word to guarantee the fans will come running. Consider if they somehow were to acquire the rights to, say, Evangelion. They'd be insane not to announce that to the world. (^_*)

Doing that is how you get angry fans. They get ticked because their favorite show left and they don't know why other than "some stupid show" took it's place. That's what happened just recently. I think CN is learning from that.

I don't know about not announcing it at ALL, but it'd be kinda neat to not announce it until the promos start two or three weeks before the premiere. I was thinking about this the other day, it seems sometimes like we get so much advance notice that things are coming-- like The Big O, that's been coming back to Cartoon Network for, what, two years now?-- that by the time it finally gets here, it hardly seems "new" at all. That and too much lead-time in the announcement gives people too much time to build up expectations, which can be a very bad thing in certain situations (Teen Titans, anyone?).
I dunno, just a thought.

WS would only hide an anime premiere if they knew it would get them in trouble with the BS&P.
There already is a case in point here... I'm sure you may know what it is.

Except that we don't even get promos two or three weeks before a premiere. One week, if we're lucky.

I'm not sure that I know what it is. The series most likely to get them in trouble with the BS&P was announced half a year ago, before the deal was even finalized. The only other upcoming (non-CN-funded) anime we know of, while technically still not "officially" announced, doesn't really have all that much for them to hide from the BS&P...

"We haven't seen any tapes yet" kind of case in point here?

Yes.
And if you're wise, it's best we keep discussion of said series to a minimum until it airs... the less.. they.. know... the better.

It's not like it's a secret. It's scheduled. It's there, in the schedule. If you paid attention to the cards, you'd understand. I don't think you'll be seeing any on-air advertisement for it. FLCL will probably get ads up the wazoo next week.

Yeah, that's what I meant-- it'd be nice if we got promos two or three weeks before a premiere, and it'd be nice if there were no official announcement before those promos started. (-:

CN/AS ought to make more use of the online animation news media and fan networks when they do advance promotions for new shows. A few well-placed news leaks on the Internet together with "authoritative" posts to boards like this one is all it would take for word to spread like wildfire. As to the plaint that advance word of a new show will tick off the fans of the series being replaced, that's true and unavoidable. I guess the trick for CN/AS is to ensure the series being replaced is truly the least popular one in the lineup. (^_*)
