The video and audio quality better be improved on the final versions of these DVDs. Warner Home Video is already shafting us with a severe drought of special features, especially on the Aqua Teens DVD.

I thought I might have had my surround receiver set incorrectly, but the music during the cards was clearly in stereo. The episodes are mono.

I also thought this DVD might have been something slapped together by CN, but looking at the inside ring of the disc I can see that it was pressed at WAMO, which is Warner Home Video's DVD mastering facility. Hmm...

I guess it's still possible that this could've been thrown together at the last minute and CN just gave WB some less than perfect copies of the episodes. Although if they had better copies that they're using for the final DVDs, it seems like they would've wanted to use those.

I would be suprised if WB released the ATHF DVD with video quality that crappy.

Does WB have any experience with releasing TV shows on DVD, or will this be their first?

I have to admit, even if they have a few months, that's still a little unsettling.

Also, what happened to the supposed 22 episodes? I'm all questions tonight.

no one ever said the DVD would be 22, 26, or 20-anything episodes. the quote stated that once a show reaches 24 completed episodes, it becomes a candidate for DVD release. that quote got blown way out of proportion.

im surprised that after so many years SG is getting a DVD release, and people are actually complaining about it. i wouldn't say that in front of the DC animation fans.

Me, I'm hoping the transfer is terrific since it comes from a digital source to begin with. But then again I just remembered that WB is behind the South Park DVDs...

Gah, sorry. I'm not really complaining, as SG on DVD is one of the few shows I really want on the format. But if they're gonna do it, they should do it right.

Warner Home Video hasn't exactly been known as the best company when it comes to DVD releases. we can't expect something like the new Star Wars movies where the transfer is direct from the digital sourcefile. most transfers these days are from digibeta master videos. shows like SG and ATHF can be compressed further than normal animated shows because they contain so many still shots, which is nice if you want to fit more stuff on one DVD. but SG already has a few flaws that were already present in the master footage, for example, in Batmantis when they zoom in on SG when he says "My room is always clean." it's sort of hard to make an image that was enlarged look like it's not pixelated. similar when people *****ed about "flaws" in Family Guy's DVD footage, when in reality whoever composited the show forgot to interlace scenes properly and those scenes were in the master videos to begin with. but seeing a compression pixel here and there is nothing to cry over. unless the footage has some sort of tint, contrast, blur, or brightness issue, i dont have a problem. a badly encoded DVD is stories higher than a VHS. people being anal about DVDs has just been a pet peeve of mine. i mean, are viewers watching the show or actively searching the pixels for compression artifacts?

And I think everyone would agree with you, content is much more important than how the digital quality. But when the transfer is bad enough that people (like John Miles) start to notice, it detracts from the show. That's all I'm trying to say.

i loathe compression artifacts. simply because they don't have to be there. if they half-ass the encoding then they deserve to hear my screaming.

of course, i work with encoded video files so it's just part of my job to be anal about that kind of junk. and i will be the first to say WBHV can eat the corn out of my feces. hopefully, they'll get their act together.

also, don't forget there's bonus features on the DVDs.

I do hate how they are cutting two episode from season 2 (well what was orginally thought to be season 2) of ATHF. One of them is "Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past" which is one of my favorite episodes. But despite the fact I will still buy both DVDs.

If they don't have the complete 1st and 2nd season on DVD, the extra features are minimal, and the picture quality's poor, then I'm not going to bother to buy the DVD. I have all of the episodes of ATHF, Sealab, Brak, HB:AAL, and season 7 of SG:C2C on..."video". I was going to buy the DVDs just for a crisp image and the extra features, but since they're lousy, and there aren't very many extra features, I don't need it.

Don't go judging a preview. Wait until the DVDs come out and see how people react. More than likely, they threw the preview DVD together so that it could be a cheap promo.

The finished DVDs this November will most likely be improved upon.

Wait a minute, that list for Space Ghost: Coast To Coast skips several episodes! It goes all the way up to "Explode", but on the way it leaves out:

Self Help
The Mask
Gum, Disease
A Space Ghost Christmas (but that's understandable)
President's Day Nightmare (again, understandable, but they really should include it somehow, without the PPG short at the end)
Fire Drill
Le Livre D'Histoire

Is the episode list I'm looking at in incorrect order, or are they really skipping episodes? If they are, I can only hope they'll put them in the next DVDs.

Hmm...

The Mask - I'm pretty sure this was more of a "special", like the episodes you mentioned which were understandable. I'm pretty sure this wasn't a regular episode.

A Space Ghost Christmas - Justified (as you said) to not have it on, as it was just a couple of skits. Would've liked it, though.

President's Day Nightmare - Yea, pretty much the same thing as Space Ghost Christmas.

Le Livre D'Histoire - Judging by the DAP episode list I'm going by, this is just a very slightly different version of "Story Book", which was included.

Can't justify Self Help, Gum, Disease, or Fire Drill though. I thought I heard in another report that "Fire Drill" would be on the disc, though. Hopefully the promotional cards got it wrong (though there's a better chance the report I read was wrong, though).

And...even if the DVDs are mildly limited in special features, or have mildly bad video/audio.....well, everyone who would bother to post in a thread like this is probably a hardcore Williams Street fan. Yes, the majority of us probably have the episodes on "video" (I won't lie, I have them myself), but...support Adult Swim, people. BUY THESE DVDs, especially if you already have the episodes in another way.

Looking at the preview pictures Brian posted, I don't really have a problem with the way the Space Ghost episode is looking. But the copy of the Mooninites episode seems to be inferior to the one that's playing on TV right now, and that's pretty inexcusable.

I'm going to chalk it up to a rush job, and hope that the final DVDs are better. But I'll be sure the read other peoples' reviews of the final products before I put any money down.

Believe me, I'm not one of those people. The Space Ghost episode probably looks as good as it can. But the Aqua Teen episode looks bad. The file you can download from the DAP looks and sounds better than the DVD sampler.*

i looked at the back of the disc and it said "Mastered by WAMO." i hope that's different from Turner Home Entertainment, who's mastering the actual sets themselves. let's pray that WAMO just happened to get bad master videos.

Well, the DAP soon won't be an option, as the series is now available for preorder.

*Not an endorsement. What's the DAP?*
