Strange... Seth makes numerous references to "that animated short I did", but he hasn't once mentioned it's name (Larry and Steve), that it's about a stupid man and an intelligent dog, or that the voices he used for Larry and Steve are exactly the same voices that he used for Peter and Brian.

I didn't know Seth was a stand-up comedian, and that he worked at Disney for "Jungle Cubs."
Good interview. Tomorrow should be interesting when he talks about the recasting of Meg.

Wow, I didn't know Family Guy was going to air as filler on Mad TV.
Now, I understand why Mila Kunis became the voice of Meg during Season 2.

I'm surprised how highly he talks of Fox after they screwed him over so badly.

I do wish all the episodes on the Family Guy DVD had commentaries in them instead of a select few. The pauses during the commentaries annoyed me, too.

I really hope Adult Swim can get some new FG episodes, because MacFarlane mentions in the interview there are already six scripts completed from a previous order FOX gave them but never used. Although a direct to video thing would be cool.
MACFARLANE: To be honest, we actually thought that we were going to go to a fourth season. We got a six-script order, which means we're supposed to write six additional scripts on the assumption that we would get picked up. Because of that, and the money they pay you for those scripts, we thought, "Oh, well, this is a good sign. We'll go to a fourth season." I think the economy was at the point ... we just didn't have a shot.
IGNFF: But those six scripts are completed?
MACFARLANE: Those six scripts are completed. Actually, that's kind of an interesting thing. God knows what the venue would be to release those. I suppose they could be released onto the Internet. But they do exist.
IGNFF: One would think that with Cartoon Network's big Adult Swim push – and they did resurrect Home Movies...
MACFARLANE: Most likely what would happen, I think, would be that if Family Guy were to return, my guess it would be in the form of – because these DVDs have done so well – it would be in the form of a direct-to-video feature property. And perhaps a series of them. That, to me, would be the most likely reincarnation of the show.

What?! Oh no!! You mean no new Family Guy on TV??? You mean I have to BUY to see more FG? Why can't you just put them on AS? It's not that freakin' hard if you can put them on DVD! Like they said, CN put HM back on the air kickin' with new eps, why not FG?...

I swear this is like the 5th interview with Seth I've read in the last year, this is definitely my favorite.
Ya know, this guy really reminds me of me at this point in my life, what with the impressions, singing, and stand up at a young age. Out of everyone involved in entertainment and animation, Seth is definitely the one that embodies everything I like about people.
His love of Rodgers and Hammerstein is very admirable for someone in entertainment these days, anyone that watches "The King Is Dead" can see that. People today are entertained by the stupidest tripe I've ever seen, a few nights ago my stepmom and her niece made me watch "Paradise Hotel" on FOX while visiting. I couldn't even figure out what the hell I was watching, and that's a feeling I rarely get.
Cartoon Network and Williams Street remain the only beacon of hope on television at this point. Bill Maher's new show on HBO helps me out a lil bit, but Maher himself can get annoying at times.
In regards to Seth though, I really believe that Cartoon Network will pick up enough ratings to see if they can get another season out of him, especially with the 6 scripts already written.
His relationship with the Standards and Practices board comes to a shock with me since he never once mentioned it in the commentaries on the DVD. Although like he mentioned, almost 3/4 of the commentaries were neglected for this release.
I'm EXTREMELY excited about the next volume coming out in Septemeber, as the 3rd season has the most episodes I've never gotten around to watching. Good times ahead for Seth.
I honestly don't know what I woulda done if he caught that flight, a few days after 9-11 I remember my dad walking into my room and telling me that "The guy that made that stupid show you like almost got on one of the 9-11 flights." Something tells me McFarlane's got a lot more to give us than just Family Guy, and I will pay for anything he makes in any medium, he's got me THAT devoted.
"That stupid show"......
.....ya shoulda seen his face when I told him the ratings it's getting on AS. Being able to do that by itself makes me wanna worship Seth.

I enjoyed that interview. Seth is certainly quite witty. I also admire his tastes. I'm more of a jazz man, but I have a fondness for the old musicals. And his film tastes are impeccable from what I've seen.
One thing I found curious is that he doesn't seem sure that they could scale down Family Guy's budget to CN standards. I have heard several time with some trimmings to the process and switch to flash that it could be done, I wonder if MacFarlane hasn't worked out if the budget could be cut or if he's simply unaware of the possible changes that could work. And of course we don't know for sure how much money CN would be willing to pay per episode. I imagine they'd try to be generous since the show has been a great success for them, but I don't know how generous they can afford to be.

That was a very good interview. There were lots of interesting tidbits in that interview.

I've talked to people from Family Guy who did agree that chopping the budget down would be really easy, due to the show's recycling of backgrounds, poses, etc. It really could transition to Flash easily.
They could also shave money off by getting rid of the post-animation rewrite process.

But for whatever reason, Seth dosen't seem open to a transition to flash, at least based on this interview.
Even though it seems it would be fairly easy, the show rarley has use for Film Roman's expensive animation. This isn't nearly as complex as Futurama and it's constantly changing locations and occasional outer space dog fights.
Disapointing, hopefully CN will continue to nag and nag and then we'll get some new Family Guy (in flash, but hopefully for a full 22 minutes.) I don't really see how the show has to have it's million dollar animation budget.

Seth McFarlane has a BEAUTIFUL voice, he's secure enough in his masculinity to admit that he loves musicals, he's a talented cartoonist, and he's good looking. I think I'm in love! :D
Seriously, that was a very interesting interview. But now I'm pissed after learning how much got left out of the DVD I paid $40 to get!! I think its silly to leave the "Osama scene" out of the Road to Rhode Island episode. It was made before the attacks, the joke doesn't insult 9/11 victims in ANY way, and anyone who is a Family Guy fan isn't that easily offended anyway! :D

I'm dissapointed that he didn't go into detail about "Larry and Steve". The similarities between it and Family Guy were quite noticable, and I thought it was good enough to be made into a series.
