Despite highly promoted late-night competition in the adult animation arena, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim remained #1 for the week in its time period among young adult male demos, according to Nielsen Media Research. Versus the same time period last year, the three-hour block (Sunday-Thursday, 11 p.m.-2 a.m.) of original and acquired animated series delivered 283,000 men 18-34 (up 157%) and a 0.9 rating (up 125%). Similarly, men 18-24 delivery (141,000) rose by 104% and ratings (1.0) by 67%. Additional highlights of Adult Swim’s performance include the following:
· Adults 18-34 delivery (402,000) grew by 92% and ratings (0.6) by 100%.
· Adults 18-24 delivery (200,000) increased by 100% and ratings (0.7) by 75%.
· Compared to its animated competition (11p.m.-12 a.m.), Adult Swim delivered more adults 18-34 by a margin of 21%.

I figured this much.
This is very good news, nonetheless.

I guess The Strip's ratings must have gone down a lot, since I haven't seen any press releases from The New TNN.

Only a margin of 21%? That kinda worries me, especially since The Strip has only been around for a few weeks, while Adult Swim has been building its viewership for almost 2 years now.
Of course, as long as Adult Swim continues to bring us great shows, I'll be happy.
If it's true and The Strip's rating are slowly plummeting, then the burst of the intial rating was there just for the train wreck factor & the "aww of something new".

Advertise a lot. Get a huge first week. Slowly decline.
Adult Swim:
Not big with advertising. Start off slow. Gradually grow.

Yeah, I think the Strip's ratings will continue to decline once they run out of new Ren & Stimpy and Stripperalla episodes. But they definitely appeal to the lowest common denominator more, and that's where the most ratings success is to be had, sadly.

It's good that 2nd run syndication on AS beat first run original programming on The Strip... very good.

This was kinda predictable, but it's good news. :)

You have to remember that the Strip is actually quickly declining. I bet that the 21% this week will become a 40%+ by next week and even more the week after. Since the Strip is mainly Style and little substance. Unlike AS, which has it's own style and a lot of substance.

Can someone please post the Strip ratings so I can see for myself?

I think I'll agree with everyone when I say "who didn't see this one coming".... ;)

...should I be suprised?

seriously, that article tells me nothing. It just says that Adult Swim is beating the Strip by a 22% margin. That doesn't necessarily mean that the Strip is a total failure. I mean, it's still gotta be the highest rated show on TNN...of course, that's probably because TNN has no other shows except Star Trek:The Next Generation reruns.

Master Moron, The Strip is NOT the highest rated program on TNN. That is by far WWE Raw. Wrestling is crap, but it is still one of the top 5 cable programs.

That's right. I remember my dad a couple years ago asking me these questions:
"What's the most watched program for families with the top incomes?"
Answer: The West Wing
"What's the most watched program for families with the lowest incomes?"
Answer: Wrestling
And with all of these wrestling shows on Pay-Per-View, including this "TNA" segment (which, BTW, has some of the worst acting I never heard...yes, never heard), wrestling is still alive in one way or another.
As for the ratings of Adult Swim v. The Strip...like everyone else, I'm not surprised. Everyone tuned in the first week for the train-wreck factor, and while the train didn't derail it still wasn't a pretty sight.

But, my point remains valid. TNN isn't going to cancel The Strip just because it gets beaten by Adult Swim's ratings. I mean, Adult Swim is only competing with the Strip for it's second hour. If anything this will just make TNN change some timeslots.

TNN repeats Stripperella and R&S during Adult Swim Monday night. the repeats used to be on Sunday night at 8, but I guess they realized that putting it up against The Simpsons is suicide.

Well, yeah.
The fact that TNN already has some new shows for the block shows that they're committed to it at least for now.
What new shows? Can't remember, although I do know John Leguizamo is making one of them.

You just can't beat the original, plain and simple. It's not like TNN is going to try any better to draw a huge adult audience.

TNN's gonna try this for at least 3 months. They're *still* putting out the promotion for it. If anything, they're trying to focus their whole block around it. More wrestling. More reality shows. Even revived American Gladiators. Doubled up on Miami Vice.
I tape 7 Days off them (it's been removed from its daytime slot to leave room for the aforementioned American Gladiators). The promo bar that shoots up on occassion reaches as high as mid screen.

Glad to hear this news. None of the shows on TNN's block were like "OMG, this is groundbreaking and I must watch every week" so to hear Adult Swim is in the lead is very good news indeed.
P.S.: Watching one day of The Strip was enough for me to decide to stop (though Gary the Rat was ok and Stripperella was ... watchable).

If they can produce more episodes of the caliber of "Ren Seeks Help", maybe at least an hour of the block will be worthwhile...

You mean Comedy Central? Comedy Central came up with the idea of having a late night block of animation on Sunday night way before Adult Swim came along. I hate it how everyone seems to think Adult Swim should be the one and only network that has adult cartoons.

That comedy central late-night thing is obscure and unpopular. Adult Swim popularized and in a way invented the late-night adult cartoon genre. TNN is blatantly plagiarizing the idea in an attempt to be successful without being nearly as clever, intelligent, or subversive.

I'm not suprised The Strip is losing to AS. It's not just that the shows are bad (that's never stopped some programs from garnering high ratings), they are truly repulsive! And it does not help when the worst of them all, Ren and Stimpy's ACP is the headliner for the block. TNN would do much better to put Gary the Rat (the only decent show on the block) on first.
Silly John K., not even kids will go for your sick vomit and poop jokes. :p

i dont think anyone really owns the idea of an adult animation block, but Comedy Central never really stuck with theirs all that much. they would for a while, then pull it, then move it, or separate it with live action shows. but when Adult Swim came along they decided to put it back into action with a bunch of cancelled shows.

I think we're doing great, considering TNN pimps "The Strip" all day long, while Adult Swim is CN's dirty little secret (I mean that in a good way.)
I think TNN shot themselves in the foot by only having 5 episodes of Stripperella, since that's their big ratings drawer (Kelsey Grahamer is too classy for thier audience and R&S has nostolgia appeal only. But the horny frat boys know who Pam is.)
