View Full Version : What was Cartoon Network's best year?
BTW, I didn't put 2003 as a selection because 2003 is not over.

1997, the debut of Cow and Chicken, and Johnny Bravo. Plus the best season of Dexter's Lab ever.
Runner-Up 1998, with the debuts of PowerPuff Girls, and Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

I'd have to say 1997. Toonami broke through with Thundercats abd Voltron, and 2 of the best CCs (Dexter and Bravo) premiered...

2001 was a very good year, because it brought us the "J-Team" (Justice League and Samurai Jack).

"Bet you were thinking the J-Team was Jackie Chan and his bunch, eh?"

 Hmm... I'm kinda tied on this. I like the years between 1993-1995 and 1999-2001 the most.
And the Eds premiered in 1999, btw. ;)

2000. Let's have a look:
Toonami is at its prime with three hours of fan-favorites like Gundam Wing, DBZ, Sailor Moon and Reboot.
The PPG are at the height of their popularity, and the Eds are rapidly becoming a hit.
Courage is still being made, and Sheep is on primetime.
Jeez, the only thing missing is Adult Swim.
And of course, next year, things started to go terribly, terribly wrong for poor Toonami...

1998. The pinnacle of Cartoon Network, imho.
Toonami had found its voice and began running with it. Soon after, it got Sailor Moon and DBZ, the two shows that defined the lineup.
Cartoon Cartoons kicked into high gear with the premiere of PPG.
On-air became one of the highlights of the network, putting out promotions that were informative and gut-bustingly funny. "The $18--err, $24 Cartoon Network Hat", the new look, "Those Meddling Kids", the first Big Game, everything... the network just got incredibly funny to watch and experience.

1998.
Premiere of the Powerpuff Girls as well as new episodes of Dexter's Laboratory and Cow and Chicken.
Classic cartoons were still on during prime-time, including more post-48 WB shorts.
Toonami aired on Saturday night in prime-time for the first quarter of the year, got four memorable franchises (Robotech, Beast Wars, Sailor Moon, and Dragonball Z), acquired ReBoot for the next year, and announced the production of new episodes of DBZ for the next year.
Cartoon Cartoons weren't so prevalent on the lineup (just one per night).
Batman (the episodes that weren't in rotation on Kids' WB) and Animaniacs also aired on Cartoon Network, along with Freakazoid and Road Rovers. Let's please forget Waynehead.
Along with the Cartoon Network Presents comic from DC Comics, 1998 was a very good year for Cartoon Network.
Five years later marked another great year (so far . . . )
I'm thinking of making another topic, asking the opposite of what this topic is asking. Should I?

Definitely '01: Samurai Jack, Justice League, & Adult Swim debut (introducing me to Cowboy Bebop & the Aqua Teens)
before then, I only watched CN for BTAS,STAS, BB, and SGC2C
'02 gave us the new He-Man
Now in '03 they have X-Men: Evolution, Teen Titans, Futurama, & Family Guy. Too bad CN doesn't have TMNT03, Spidey, and Invader ZIM.

I'm going to say a tie. Between 2000 and '98.
Everything was so...right back then. Cartoon Network played all kinds if cartoons, not just Cartoon Cartoons, Adult Swim and Toonami. There was more variety in what to watch.
That and the Network was much more stable then. Instead of schedule changes 2 times a week, One time in Fall, then a change for Summer is all that was needed.
Unlike 2003.
Yay! It finally worked! My first post!!!
I'd say 1999 was the best year because of "Ed, Edd n Eddy." My favorite cartoon. Followed closely by 2001, with the "Adult Swim" and all... I dunno`, maybe I should have voted for 2001... And 2000 had "Cartoon Campain..." Well, too late now. I voted for 1999 with EEnE!

I liked the years 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 for sentimental reasons.
Mine would be between the years 1999-2001, but I voted for 2001. Mainly because of Adult Swim which introduced me to Home Movies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Cowboy Bebop, an anime I never would have bothered buying DVDs for without knowing if I'd like it or not.
