I have read the thread started by Nelson on July 7, and I would like to add my opinion.
There are only 24 hours in a day, and since most shows last 30 minutes, there are a maximum of 48 time slots a day.
Sure, I do agree that CN could show some classics, but it can't live in the past for all time! That's why it has it's sister channel, Boomerang, to handle most of the classics. And there are cartoonists who need to have their work shown!
If you think about it, CN has to show Cartoon Cartoons, Anime, and Classics, not to mention something for the younger audiences (Ages 0-4).
I've heard a lot of bashing CN lately, and I'm kinda sick of it. If you want to see only one cartoon a day, then tape the episode and repeat the tape all day, but keep in mind, other people have their own opinion on shows...
And a lot of people bash Ed, Edd, n Eddy here. :( I've seen it, and I love it a lot! I (personally) don't like the Powerpuff girls, but I don't complain in EVERY single post that I hate ppg...
So, please, just keep the "bashing" stuff at a minimum, especially on the Eds...

Only a very small minority of people get Boomerang. Cartoon Network needs to keep its lineup diverse. They're showing too many Cartoon Cartoons (and too much anime, for that matter) right now, and I think the classics need more time on the schedule.

I don't see much anime on CN now as they did before. Toonami is now getting Americanized-anime, like Justice League, onto their schedule. Also their block on Saturday is starting to have the same result too; Hot Wheels, etc.

Dude, guy, dude, guy dude.
You need to simmer down. You've only spent 10 posts here, and already you've managed to piss of a lot of people. There's no need to overreact so much.
Yes, the Eds shouldn't be bashed, but you're being hypocritcal by bashing classic cartoons and their fans. Noone likes that. You certainly didn't like them bashing your stuff.
Whatever happened to "They will know we are Ed fans by our love"?

Hey Matt; it's great to see you... again.
Yeah. I've been here before in ToonZone back when I was EddyGirly; remember how CCs had their own board and we had a temporary Cartoon Orbit board? See, I remember all that. :p
And I am pissed off at people. It really bugs me a lot to see favorite shows dissed. I've had enough of it really. :o And I just had to express it.

Other than some of the things Nelson said (he can get a little hot-headed sometimes), I think most people gave intelligent reasons to justify their opinion of the show.
People don't always like the same stuff you do. Get over it.

That's a lot of program slots, especially if Cartoon Network has different schedules on different days.
Sure, I do agree that CN could show some classics, but it can't live in the past for all time! That's why it has it's sister channel, Boomerang, to handle most of the classics.
There's a difference between living in the past and respecting the past.
And there are cartoonists who need to have their work shown!
Like Fliescher and the men and women who worked for decades creating the Popeye cartoons. New cartoonists deserve to be shown, but Popeye having one prime time slot isn't depriving the creators of Ed Edd N' Eddy of having thier cartoons shown. The people creating cartoons today owe a lot to the artists of the past, and those great old cartoons should be viewable to future generations who might also be inspired by them.
If you think about it, CN has to show Cartoon Cartoons, Anime, and Classics, not to mention something for the younger audiences (Ages 0-4).
They could do a better job balancing those four types of programming than they are currently doing.

Well. EddyGirly. You certainly haven't changed.
Ahem.
Ed, Edd and Eddy Replacing Popeye? Bullcrap. Udder bullcrap. I won't go as far as Nelson. I rather like E,E, and E. It's just, that, it gets at least one slot a day on weekdays. Popeye get one slot a week. That's a 5:1 ratio. At least. It's really more like 15:1.
If you think about it, CN has to show Cartoon Cartoons, Anime, and Classics, not to mention something for the younger audiences (Ages 0-4). And the classics are getting neglected. For a show that gets ALOT of air, weather you like it or not. Imangine for a second. Ed, Edd, and Eddy gets one slot a week. The slot gets replaced by Popeye, which has about 5 slots a week. You pissed? Yes. You are.
ALSO. The Popeye Show was an excellent showcase of cartoons. It is a massive loss.

Yes, I also agree. Ed Edd 'n Eddy plays about 24 times a week with same reruns shown twice. I think you have really lost it. I mean don't you think Popeye deserves airtime. I may not like Ed Edd 'n Eddy but the other fans also agree that it has too much airtime. About the Powerpuff Girls, it airs less times (19 times unless if it's chosen as a wildcard) in the week than Ed Edd 'n Eddy but I can live without seeing a repeat shown twice in the day. I like Courage The Cowardly Dog as well, but I also agree that it plays too much. If this keeps up, there will be more airtimes than episodes of the cartoon cartoons. However, I think some cartoon cartoons are being left out and of course, classics. But how about Sheep In The Big City, Mike, Lu, & Og, and I Am Weasel. If Cartoon Network would just play all the cartoon cartoons once in the day, we'd probably have more classic cartoons on. Cartoon Network's line-up is horrible! I also agree Toonami is being left behind! It lost it's Midnight Run when Adult Swim came around. If Cartoon Network would cut down on the airings of Cartoon Cartoons we wouldn't have all these problems in my opinion. If Adult Swim becomes 7 days a week, we may be seeing even more cuts of shows even though I like Adult Swim due to ratings. Well that's all I can say: Cartoon Network needs its schedule revamped. The classic cartoons are getting neglected and that's just wrong of Cartoon Network. Popeye is an excellent classic and I think it deserves at least one timeslot because it's been around a lot longer than Ed Edd 'n Eddy probably of all the Cartoon Cartoons combined. Let's face it we'll get tired of watching the same episodes of Cartoon Cartoons twice a day or week however it is now.

Well the thing is though that CN always changes their schedules to reflect which shows get the highest ratings, so you really can't complain about them doing that. It's not like the Popeye Show will be lost in a bad timeslot forever, espically with plans to put it on the expanded AS scehdule.

Yes, Diana, you can complain about them doing that, because, ratings or not, its just plain bad for the network to overload on the same shows. You don't want to see them turn into the next Nickelodeon, do you?
There are no concrete plans for Adult Swim to expand just yet, and Popeye even being put on a new Adult Swim schedule at all is pure speculation. Besides, Popeye shouldn't have to be shown on Adult Swim. It had a fine timeslot where it was.

It's the same tactic Nick uses, really. They build up a sizable library of original animation with proved ratings success, and then they show reruns of it non-stop to the kids who will mindlessly watch it no matter how many times they've seen it before.
It makes me sad to see Cartoon Network go in the direction they're going. http://www.ezboard.com/image/emoticons_classic/frown.gif

Eds4Ever, A lot of people have NOTHING against Ed, Edd, N' Eddy. They're just kinda mad because the ONE Popeye slot was replaced by more Ed, Edd, N' Eddy. Like Spaz13_88 said, If it were the other way around, would you NOT be pissed and simply go watch old tapes for the rest of your life? I think not.

You don't have to insult dacp3. You could have made your point without resorting to chidish tactics.

I aggre with you that they air to many Cartoon cartoons, but how do they show too much anime?
Adult Swim action: 9 hours a week
Toonami: 7 1/2 hours week
SVES: 3 hours a week.
other: 5 hours a week
There's 168 hours in a week, only 24 1/2 hours of anime air. that leaves us with 143 1/2 hours in a week for non anime programing. I don't think there's too much anime.

I'm not bashing the Eds--IN FACT, you will notice I never bashed the Eds as a show in that whole 9-page thread (which is now thankfully locked).
Just remember, four years from now EEnE will be long-gone and only on at 4:30 in the morning. Tape it, and watch it every freaking second for the rest of your Eddy-obsessed life!! OKAY?

I personally do not like "Ed, Edd, and Eddy," but it is not just that. It is overplayed, and did not need so many time slots. That is the same with "Tom and Jerry," which I do like. I would not mind seeing some of that replaced. What Cartoon Network's schedule needs is a little better balance of shows: Those two are not the only things that are overplayed at the cost of limiting other programs to once per week.

Hmmm.... I do think the Eds get overplayed but not Tom & Jerry. I mean they lost many airtimes last year with the whole Adult Swim thing and CC Summer Primetime thing. Tom & Jerry plays for an hour, though about 8 times a week. I could see maybe Tom & Jerry possibly getting cut to a half-hour even though I like them because they'll probably play repeats over and over.

It's not so much that Tom and Jerry is overplayed as it is that it's overplayed when compared to other classic animation. If Looney Tunes and Popeye got an hour a day as well, in similar timeslots, I wouldn't be complaining.
Plus, they really need to add some more MGM shorts to the show besides just Tom & Jerry ones. It's gotten to where it's pretty rare to see a Droopy short or any MGM short besides T & J shown on the network anymore.
30 minutes or so a day of old H-B stuff like Snaggle, Yogi, and Top Cat would be nice, too.

You're right. It just as well could've been Powerpuff Girls, Dexter, or just about any other of CN's overplayed shows that took Popeye's timeslot. Not that those are necessarily bad shows, but CN needs to cut down on all of their overplayed reruns, E,E,n E included.

You see...Popeye is a WONDERFUL show. I remember when I was a kid...my mom and I would watch it all the time (since my father's in the Navy). I think it should have a primetime slot...but we all still have to remember...we can't blame one show for Popeye's loss...
An intelligent schedule change for Cartoon Network would be to make one day of the week (such as Friday) dedicated ONLY to classics, that way, all the "overplayed" shows will be equally sacrificed for the good of the classics.

I dunno, classic animation taking over a whole day's schedule is a little drastic.
At the very least, I think weekdays should have 2 hours of classic animation. A half-hour of Looney Tunes, a half-hour of MGM shorts, a half-hour of Popeye, and a half-hour of early H-B stuff like Snaggle and Huckleberry Hound. These two hours should be shown in the early afternoon sometime before Toonami. Flintstones probably should be on daily, too. And if Boomerang would let CN borrow the Harveytoons show, that would be great, as well.
Saturday and Sunday mornings should be devoted to Looney Tunes and MGM shorts until around noon. Sunday afternoons should be devoted to Boomerang-type H-B stuff, and Sunday nights before Adult Swim should be devoted to classic specialty shows like The Popeye Show, Toon Heads, and The Bob Clampett Show.
I think that's the very least amount of classic animation CN should be showing.
I can't stand Popeye.

That's the nearly the same as saying that all African Americans should be paid back because there ancestors were slaves. Everyone from the Civil War era is dead. Most of the men that perpatrated the Pearl Harbor attack are dead.
It would be a bad idea to take Toonami off because they have harbored some of the greatest American action cartoons ever. Batman, Superman, Thundercats, Justice Legue, all of these and many more have been on Toonami.

I wouldn't blame any specific show, and I'm not the biggest Popeye fan myself (yea, I suck :p ), but the classic cartoon fans are right: It's just wrong for CN to neglect the classics in this way. Popeye isn't the only case, but it's one of the best examples. Nothing really to add, just agreeing with what's been said.

Nope, Toonami should definitely be taken off. Before bombing Pearl Harbor, Japan should've taken into consideration the consequences. Taking off their cartoons will show those Japs to mess with us!

Uh... You are wrong. They knew perfectly well what they were doing. They killed because they wanted.

And I see no better way of getting back at them than by taking off their cartoons!

Okay, this is out of control! We were all finally starting to agree before somebody came in here and started shooting off his/her mouth!
Okay, that was a joke about Japan...so you need to cool your little head down. Believe it or not, my best friend is Japanese, that's why I make cracks about Japan...because he does the same to America...
Now, everybody...let's TRY to get along once again, and if anybody feels like coming in here and shooting their mouths off like somebody...then do it in another forum, PLEASE!

I didn't know you were jokeing. When you are jokeing or being sarcastic, use either the :p smiley or the ;) smiley, so that way people won't get the wrong idea.
I hope theres no hard fealings. :)
