Remember when cartoons would only air 10 times a week, and only then if they were popular? I mean an early morning before school showing and a late afternoon after school showing. What ever happened to that beautiful regularity?

ya mean cartoon cartoons right? wellllllll........who knows? most of them stink pretty badly. but I guess like on Nick endless reruns of their shows get better ratings then the older series the network was built on like flintstones an looney toons. http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

I mean any cartoon.
Like GoBots or Voltron would run back to back at 6-7 AM and 3-4 PM. Or how Flinstones was shown one episode per weeknight back when it aired in the 1950's.
As opposed to 14 hours of Scooby Doo or Cartoon Cartoons per DAY like we have now...

Cartoons Cartoons DO get higher ratings then the other shows. That's why there on so much. CN would cut their amount if they got low ratings (like they do with their other shows).

I wonder if those ratings are at all inflated by the excessive number of showings? For example, suppose you have Popeye airing once and EEE airing twice, both with the same amount of viewers per airing. Someone could easily twist that into saying that EEE gets double the viewers, or it rates better in twice as many time slots. When, in fact, the only thing distinguishing it, statistics-wise, is that it's being crammed down our throats twice as much. It's a known fact that 28% of all people know anyone can pull statistcs out of their rear :P
I'm also reminded of how Fox would shift Family Guy around every other week during the third season. Only the most dedicated fans could ever find it, ratings suffered, and Fox then justified cancellation becuase of low ratings. It's called a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I propose that Cartoon Network would be exceedingly more popular in the long term by having a more varied schedule. First off, in increases the longevity of the Cartoon Cartoons when their entire run is not shown 52 times in a year. Secondly, by featuring other shows, such as Challenge of the GoBots for example, you pull in viewers who currently dismiss it as either the crappy anime channel or the retarded Nicktoon channel. All this practically for free, since AOLTW owns all of Warner Brothers, Hanna Barbera, etc.
And, if you apply this to Boomerang, you get more people clamoring for the channel and thus more subscribers for the Comcast division of AOLTW. You might even get new viewers who can't justify paying extra for HBO 2, but would be twice as likely to get the premium package becuase of a 2nd station. If Boomerang is showing nothing but Scooby and similar derivatives, though, folks like me have absolutely _zero_ interest in the channel.
I guess I'm just tired of Cartoon Network showing fewer different shows in a week than there are hours in the day. It's a real shame there's so much content that they both refuse to air or sell to anyone who will.

It's been years since most of the Hanna Barbera franchises have seen new epsiodes created let alone aired. For example, Challenge of the GoBots hasn't had a new episode since 1987! The Flintstones get a made for TV movie here or there, and Scooby Doo is still running (why?!) but they're exceptions to the rule.
I feel ashamed to be a Hanna Barbera fan when I see their logo put on the last two seasons of Dexter's Laboratory or any other show that's had it's soul removed in such an obvious manner...

oh I get it now!!
I think they do double up the ratings like that. its cheap!
When there's really nothing else on BUT CC's well...you pretty much have no choice but to watch them which means automatic ratings! http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

You DO have a choice. It comes in a variety of flavors.
Star Trek TNG, A-Team, Miami Vice, Classic Ren and Stimpy on TNN.
Pokemon at appropriate hours on Fox/WB.
Star Trek TOS, Twilight Zone on Sci-Fi channel.
Sponge Bob on Nickelodeon.
M*A*S*H, X-Files on FX betwork.
And then there's a plethora of great VHS/DVD releases from Dragon Ball to Batman: TAS to Slayers. Pretty much everything that's been on Adult Swim (or will be in the near future) is available at Suncoast Video or other retail outlets.
So if you don't like Cartoon Cartons, don't EVER feel forced to watch them. If enough people change the channel and keep their kids from watching, they'll get the message within a month or so.
I watch CN only for He-Man and Justice League. Anytime I see a Cartoon Cartoon, unless it's an original Dexter's Laboratory, the channel changes or the TV goes off. I have infinitely better things to do with my time.

I wish TBS and TNT would pick up the classic cartoons like in the old days. lol But I don't see that happening though I wish it would.
