I wonder - should Aunt May ever find out that Peter is Spider-Man?

I don't read the Spiderman books, but I'd say no. Can you imagine what affect this news would have on her? Then again, if Peter did reveal this to her, she probably would believe him and they'd move on from there...

I seem to recall that she did tell Peter she knew when she died in the comics (long story, but like so many deaths in comics, it wasn't permanent). I think it was a neat idea, but I certainly wouldn't be big on it being something Peter knew about or told her himself.

Yes, I don't think it would hurt the story any either. Of course, I am part of the ones who think it might be better to just let her die...and stay dead.

She should've stayed dead. Her death in ASM #400 was actually handled really, really well. I was real dissapointed when I found out an actress hired by Norman (WTH??) was the one who died.

Also, I went to a Spider-Man site today with an advance review of the next issue of ASM, and there's an interesting development. I'll put it in spoiler space:

Aunt May discovers Peter's broken and battered body in his room while he's partially still in costume.

HAHA!!! I love that spoiler! I know if anybody can handle a twist like that, Joe certainly can.

It was a rough night at a Halloween party? :p

I've been avoiding the comics for a while but...
I would much rather have her just die and stay dead. I've heard about the great death story and how it was crappily retconned and that is one of the reasons why, even back when I was collecting comics, I avoided it like the plague. That and the clone garbage, and the return of the original Goblin. Though I think they are getting things together with Jenkins and other good writers now, from what I understand.

I'm not too shocked by the spoiler...Pete's had problems like that before, and I have a feeling it will be explained away at some point, most likely by the end of the issue.

Here's some more spoiler speculation:

Supposedly, Aunt May will discover his body on the last or second to last page. The review didn't say if Peter was conscious for this or if he was unconscious. If he's unconscious then I bet Aunt May will suffer in silence for awhile. I'd like Peter to be conscious when Aunt May discovered his battered body inside the Spidey suit.

I'm just putting the above in spoiler space so anyone who click on this doesn't get the whole thing ruined.

aunt May is back alive? Yeesh, I guess that shows how long I've been out of the comic loop. And I agree, the death issue was very well done, it was very heartfelt.

And here's the URL to the cover of the issue. Looks...revealing...

I checked out the spoilers and the link to the cover and have to say that I am for one GLAD I am still ordering this book from Westfield. I love where Joe Stracynsky is taking this book. I've said it before and will reiterate it here, Spider Man is a fun book to read again after a long, long period of banality.

In any continuity, I think it would help Aut May's fragile heart if she didn't find out until after Peter's bumpy teen years were over, and he was a more confident Spiderman, as he is today. That way you've got the formula for some excellent dialogue.

Spider-Man sucked for the longest time, but it has definatly reached a new level - and it's a great one! The books haven't been dissapointing since they jumped abaoard - and I'm glad.

Well My first thought that she might get a heart attack from finding her nephew's secret, but If this were USM she might survive and smack him around for waiting so long to tell her.

Heart Attack? Hmm...I'm not sure if she's that vunerable or old anymore. They've been making May less a doting Aunt and more of an actual person.

I don't think Aunt May should find out Peter is Spider-Man. All though, I wonder what her reaction might be.

www.milehighcomics.com/firstlook has the cover and first three pages from the upcoming issue. While it shows nothing of the Peter/may part - it does set up the issue nicely.

Probably not a good idea to have her know. Imagine the scenarios--

"Petey, dress warmly when crime-fighting. Here, wear this parka."

"Petey, try to come home by eleven. And CALL me when you're going to be late. Just get on a pay phone while you're fighting Venom."

James Harvey

LOL!

"Ask Electro is he can help jump start my car, Peter!"

I just wonder what this'll do since she always complains about the "menance" that is Spider-Man.

...for a twist...if Mary Jane knows, she could tell Aunt May (possibly without Peter's knowledge). I mean, if the man can tell his wife about his "night life" no reason his mother-figure can't know.

Calhoun07

I think if Aunt May knew that her beloved Peter Parker was Spider-Man, that would soften her heart towards any thoughts she had about him being a "menace."

James Harvey

This will definatly mess with her head, I'll give it that. It's gonna change her opinion of Peter forever. Man, this is one twist I am looking forward to...

Calhoun07

Do you think she could swing the other way? Like disown him or something?

James Harvey

I don't think she'd do anything that radical. I expect her to be majorly peeved at Peter for awhile. That's almost a given.
