(My AIM handle is "EnglishPigDog64". "Landstander Ryan" is my friend who has nothing to do with Toonzone)
Landstander Ryan: The dumbest move FOX ever made was canceling Family Guy.
EnglishPigDog64: No
EnglishPigDog64: I disagree
Landstander Ryan: How so?
EnglishPigDog64: The dumbest move FOX ever made was canceling Futurama
Landstander Ryan: They both have seemingly equal fanbases, and I find Family Guy to be funnier.
EnglishPigDog64: Futurama is way funnier
Landstander Ryan: Well, not for me.
EnglishPigDog64: Family Guy can be clever, but it can just as easily can be dumb
EnglishPigDog64: Futurama always makes me laugh
EnglishPigDog64: And Futurama has an obscenely large cult following, and won an Emmy
Landstander Ryan: Well, Futurama is funny, but it has extremely stupid parts.
Landstander Ryan: Like Nibbler
Landstander Ryan: And I don't think that "Evil Santa" is very funny
EnglishPigDog64: The Evil Santa is brilliant
Landstander Ryan: Bah
EnglishPigDog64: And Nibbler is classic in the episodes where he talks
EnglishPigDog64: But otherwise, he's kind of dumb
EnglishPigDog64: But he's the only dumb part
Landstander Ryan: Make a topic considering this on Toonzone
EnglishPigDog64: Family Guy has some funny ideas, but they really need to lose the childish fart and scattology jokes
EnglishPigDog64: I mean, I still love it
EnglishPigDog64: But still
Landstander Ryan: Give me an example of a fart joke
EnglishPigDog64: Plus Peter Griffon can be more obnoxious then funny
EnglishPigDog64: The Willy Wonka parody
EnglishPigDog64: I can remember plenty
EnglishPigDog64: They always resort to potty humor
EnglishPigDog64: A topic concerning what?
Landstander Ryan: Which is funnier: Family Guy or Futurama?
So what do you guys think? Is Futurama funnier? Or Family Guy?

I would say Family Guy is funnier more often than not, but Futurama has more substance to go along with the comedy. Which is funnier? I'd say Family Guy. Which is better in the long run? Futurama. Did that all make sense?

Family Guy, it spends all of its creative energy trying to be as funny as possible. Futurama, whilst marginally funny, tries to do a lot more, so it less funny.

Futurama. Family guys isn't funny at all.

Well I have to agree with Clayface on this one.
Family Guy has to try and be funny, where Futurama has a background storie that just lends itself to being funny.
I just think that Futurama uses its story line way better than Family Guy does.
TheKing
Both are funny to me...and I like them both equally! I don't like the other better than the other... Did that make sense? Anyway, if I were to go by animation... I'd say Futurama has to be the best at that and it is better in the long run!
As much as I like Family Guy, I'm gonna have to go with Futurama. Family Guy has to try to be funny, but Futurama's characters and settings lend themselves to humor.

I enjoy both of them, but I like Family Guy better.
I think it's a matter of taste; if you like story-driven humor with well-done schmaltziness thrown in, Futurama is great. But if you like edgier humor with no attention to plot or character development, Family Guy is better.
Both of them have a sardonic sense of humor; both tend to one-off pop-culture references without warning. But Family Guy just seems to... take itself less seriously, I guess.
Still, I wouldn't kick either one out of bed for eating crackers.
I think I'll put one down for Futurama here too. Family Guy definitely makes me laugh but seems to do it with less finesse. Futurama has a more steady and engaging plot with characters that are more likeable. That's not what Family Guy trys to do though, so it's really just a matter of the style and pacing, which I prefer Futurama's. This is only if I had to choose, of course, because right now I get both right in a row so it's great either way!

Family Guy is funnier but you're really comparing apples and oranges.
Futurama is a sitcom, where there is drama and comedy mixed together.
Family Guy is more like a sketch comedy (ie: Monty Python) with jokes just thrown at you. So by default there's going to be more comedy in Family Guy.
The question you should be asking is which do you like better. Then it would be a toss-up. I like Family Guy's zaniness, but I like Futurama's character interaction.

Futurama has much more substance, but for random comedy Family Guy always makes me laugh (some jokes that I feel guilty laughing at actually). Futurama is safer comedy, but not by much.

Futurama, because its humor tends to come from the characters, it strives to be more than it is, and the fact that Family Guy isn't funny.
Family Guy.
Random comedy is the best kind of comedy.

I'll agree with the apples and oranges spin. I like them both for their individual appeal.

I like both but favor Futurama more. I feel the biggest difference in the shows is how long you have to wait for the punch line to 'the joke'. Family Guy is like "Short Attention Span Theater", the joke starts and ends in a matter of seconds (most times). Whereas Futurama will build up a situation and have the payoff come later in the episode.

Futurama for me.
I am offended by too much of Family Guy's humor and style, while Futurama has literally had me rolling around on the carpet with laughter.

Personally I think that Futurama is funnier than Family Guy. Futurama has much better character interaction, in Family Guy it seems to be mainly Stewie and Brian play off each other, Chris barely interacts with anybody in the family, Meg doesn't do a whole lot, Lois interacts with Peter and Stewie mostly, and Peter interacts with Brian, Lois, and his friends. While in Futurama the cast is used much more effectively. Also Futurama has so much originality to it, some of the episodes are very creative, the Time Skip episode, the Revolting of the Robots when Mom ordered them complete with communist greeting card, The X-Mas episodes (I love the one with Kwanzaa bot, even in the future he gets no respect) and many others that would take too long to list. So in conclusion, I feel Futurama is the funnier of the two series.

Family Guy, while I like Futurama, we are talking about which show is FUNNIER, and it has to be family guy. Then again I like the more surreal, off the wall humor of family guy and the randomness of it all. I guess it really depends on what sort of humor you prefer.

Actually, Family Guy does that to. Remember in "The Kiss Seen Round The World" where that guy who said Peter was a faker at the beginning came back at the end and insulted Neil for being a faker?
As for which is funnier, I would have to say that Family Guy is funnier when you first see it, but except for the really exceptonial jokes, Futurama has greater humor quality throughout repeated runthroughs.

While I like both shows, my vote definitely goes to Family Guy as the funnier of the two. Even in repeats; I've seen most episodes of Family Guy several times, and I still find them hilarious.
I love all the short, quick jokes interspersed throughout each episode, because it gives the show a HUGE comedic range of both topics and levels (yes, there are a fair amount of crude "potty" jokes, but there are also many very funny intelligent jokes thrown in, sometimes within a crude joke).
Plus I love the scenes where something uninteresting is happening in the foreground with comedy in the background (maybe I'm just a visual person :) ).

This a hard question.. let's see futurama has more episodes than FG. but i like FG better in some things. Futurama is cool in some other parts of the comedy.
But let's just say the both Are funny.

Family Guy is funnier, but Futurama has much more substance to it's story and I'd put them way ahead of FG when it comes to which is the better series.

Once again,Futurama has more substance abuse and has alot of inside jokes, and it swears sometimes.
While on the other hand,Family Guy does swear sometimes probobly but its much more apealing to the younger crowd (15,14,ect.)
So i'll have to say Family Guy and I pitty people who think it is stupid/not funny :p

futurama is more of a story driven cartoon it seems, and family guy is much more of just spontanious off the wall zany comedy. wich is better? I like them both. but as far as wich is funnier..family guy is much funnier.

This is actually a hard decision but I have to say Futurama. Futurama has more of a base to its comedy while Family Guy wanders through a few subjects before it gets to the point. They are both VERY funny, as a matter of fact, I believe they are the best animated shows to come from America EVER (sorry Simpsons, but you just can't cut it anymore), but Futurama wins, hands down.

Family Guy and Futurama = boring sometimes overused cheesy jokes and scripted, unatural sounding dialogs and exagerated (or should i say Forced) comedy sequences and chracters that I simply don't like....wow too many "ands". (and I hate it when dogs interact with Humans as if they were Human)
Too bad there arn't anymore episode of Home Movies :( :( :( :( :(

I agree with a lot of people in saying that while Family Guy is funnier, Futurama is an overall better program. The stories and characters in Family Guy aren't as interesting, but it does make you laugh more.

Beat me to it.
Anyway, as for the Futurama/Family Guy...well, the question asked which show was funnier. When I watch Family Guy, I have a tendency to laugh...nonstop...for 30 minutes. Futurama is funny, but not as funny as Family Guy. However, while Family Guy is a bunch of jokes tossed together, Futurama has more to it. It has storylines that last the whole episode, character development, plot twists...basically, it has more to it. In that aspect, it's more of a "show" than Family Guy. On issue of pure funniness, however, Family Guy has it beaten.

LOL. "We...make...holes in teeth! We...make...holes in teeth!"
Family Guy is funnier, hands down. For one thing, it delivers more laughs...while I might get a laugh here and there when watching Futurama (with the exception of the really funny episodes, like the ones that aired this past week, with Beck and Lucy Liu and whatnot), I'll laugh nonstop while watching Family Guy. And the thing is, Family Guy never gets old. While Futurama gets progressively less funny with each viewing, watching an episode of Family Guy for the millionth time is just as good as watching it the first. Family Guy has so many jokes coming at you so quickly, you often forget about them so that when they reappear in reruns, you're taken by surprise again.
And for another thing, a lot of Futurama's humor is aimed for the sci-fi "geeks" out there. Unless you're into Star Trek and computer humor, a good half of the jokes in Futurama are lost on you. People praised the episode when Dr. Zoidberg was looking for a mate because it was such a great parody of that Star Trek episode, but for people who neither like Star Trek nor seen the episode parodied (i.e. me), then most of the humor is completely lost on them. Family Guy's humor is more varied, from the simple bear bursting through the wall and mauling someone to the Ronald McDonald telling his daughter not to go out of the house looking like a whore to the Andy Warhol dance party, and I think it has a much broader audience.

Family Guy. Bar none.
Futurama is a better show, but FG is much funnier, simply because of all the random side-sketches shown in-between the stories plots.
I like both shows very much. The true test of what I like more is which DVD am I willing to purchase? I purchased "Family Guy" already. I don't think I will purchase "Futurama" DVDs.
Between Bender & Baby Stewie, I find Baby Stewie funnier!

I would have to say Family Guy is funnier because it's like a cartoon version of The Far Side or the National Lampoon comics where anything can happen, it's totally random and the characters are familiar stereotypes. Futurama is good too, but to me it's only good because it has interesting characters and the premise of the show seems fresh and has a lot of potential (if it weren't for those bastards at FOX). To me Futurama isn't necessarily laugh out loud funny, but it's chuckles funny. You can't say the same for Family Guy, because that show has me ROTFLMAO.
Besides, a talking alcoholic dog and a baby bent on world domination beats a sarcastic robot who looks like Homer and a purple haired cyclops who sounds like Peggy Bundy on Married...With Children anyday.

Well, yes, but still, it's my opinion that Family Guy is better than Futurama, even though they're both great. You may think the opposite of me or you may think that both shows suck and you're glad that FOX took them off.

Well said. I think you pretty much nailed all the reasons why Family Guy is funnier. You're right about the Zoidberg thing too; I had no idea that episode was a parody of a Star Trek episode (well that sounded a bit redundant, didn't it?)....because I never watch Star Trek... The jokes in Family Guy definitely reach a wider audience. If you've been alive for awhile, you'll probably get most of them.
Anyways, the bottom line is that Futurama is funny sometimes, and Family Guy is almost always funny. I watch and like both of them, but Family Guy is infinitely funnier IMO.

Futurama for me. No accounting for taste, though. I find it
difficult to understand people who like both, but I accept
that it's possible. For me, Family Guy just totally missed
the mark. It made me annoyed or disgusted. It didn't
make me laugh. It didn't make me interested. It made me
turn off the TV or change the channel. Futurama on the
other hand has made me laugh and feel good--or feel bad
in the right way, because it was intended.

I do like both, but Family Guy is much funnier. The only time Futurama had me cracking up and rolling on the floor laughing was the amusement park on the moon episode. Other than that, the most I got was a chuckle or a smirk. Family Guy on the other hand has my stomach hurting (From laughing) almost every episode.

Futurama, because of the following example:
Both had an episode parodying Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Whereas Futurama makes changes to the setting, makes funny references to the oompa loompas, and throwns in a multitude of jokes, while still driving the story, Family Guy replaces burping from the original movie with farting.
I'm watching Family Guy on DVD as I type this. It's funny at times, but when it isn't it falls flat on it's face after falling off of the top of the Grand Canyon. I prefer a much more consistent, intelligent comedy, with some stupid parts thrown in. ;)

Only Matt Groening had never seen the moive. I listened to the commentary track as well.
My point was that I prefer intelligent humor over scatological, random humor. Futurama made the effort to put their own spin on the parody, but the Family Guy episode was almost a shot for shot "remake".

Though I'll admit Family Guy has its fair share of scatological and random humor, it isn't just limited to that. Virtually every kind of comedy has been seen at Family Guy at one point...parodies, references, intelligent humor, witty one-liners, entire episode jokes...you name it, they've done it. Family Guy is more a plethora of comedy.
