Hi all :)

my cousin told me this morning that he's gonna buy a burner(not DVD).Just a simple one to back-up files. But he's not sure where he'll need it more-at home or at work...
So I told him"Hang on to your shopping...I've heard something about External Burner, which you could easily take to work and back to your house"

But that's about all that I know about it.
So what you can tell me about it?
Can it do anything like the usual internal burner ?
I mean are there any disadvantages ? (Note that he's not looking for a DVD,only a simple burner to copy files from the HD)

Do you need to open the computer and install it?or is it really so easy-that you only plug it from the outside, and then you can plug it to any other computer you want ?

And finally,if it is worth the money, which one do you recommend (company) ?

Thanx in advance,

Rock On!

If he is using the CD Burner for work wouldn't the company provide one? (Unless he is working alone.)

The Pros:
-You can take the CD Burner anywhere you like.
-Easy to install, just plug the CD Burner to the back of the computer with the cable. But you still have to install the CD Burner software though.

The Cons:
-External CD Burners are almost double the price of internal CD Burners.
-External CD Burners are usually slower in writing CDs than internal CD Burners.

It depends how many times is he going to use it. If it is only going to be once in a while, then you might want to get an internal one.

I am using a Yamaha CD Burner and so far it has not failed me.

How many files is he transfering from home to work?

If it is only a few files, then there are other storage options like an USB memory key (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006I5FQ/qid=/sr=1-2/REF_TAG(pd_sbs_e_1)/002-2595472-8195207?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846).

an external burner is pretty much just what you said. My burner is external and plugs into the usb slots. As long as whatever computer you use has extra usb ports you can plug it into any computer wherever you go. You just have to install the drivers/software in each computer just like you would if it was an external zip drive or anything else.

Internal burners are cheaper and faster, but not portable. So it really depends on what your friend needs it for.
