View Full Version : SVES Talkback: He-Man- "Seperation" (Spoilers)
The Clown Prince

Seperation- Written by Larry DiTillio (Episode 24 of 26)
He-Man must return three mystical objects to the far corners of Eternia to prevent the destruction of the entire planet.
Enjoy this episode while you can as this will be the last one until June sometime when hopefully the two part season finale, The Council of Evil airs. It's all up to Mattel when that happens believe it or not and not Cartoon Network.
Today's episode written by fan favorite Larry DiTillio who of course most know, contributed to MANY episodes in the original series and She-Ra. He also wrote this seasons episodes Lessons and The Monster Within. So today's should be good. According to he-man.org's front page, it's a "must see" episode. Hmmmm.
What is known is from a Q & A with Larry DiTillio that this episode will feature Two Badd and Sy-Klone. Everything else is a mystery.
The Clown Prince
Yeah, and from what I heard from a very reliable source (who shall remain nameless out of respect), this episode will have something really major happen (These are bits from a chat):
Source: Something... rather significant.. happens in the next episode.
Source: I'd be watching it just for that... I want to see how they animate it.
Source: I think fans will go nuts over it, to be honest.
Me: Would fans be meaning the 'old show' fans?
Source: Yep.
That said... I think this is gonna be an 'old school fan' episode. Hopefully fans of the new show will 'get' it... :(

They wouldn't be magical stones/crystals, would they? Those seem to be common place in Eternia.

Wow that was unexpectedly great!!
I thought it was just a Too-Bad focus episode but it was nothing of the sort!
The ultimate evil magic was unleashed...geez something like that could have spanned two or more episodes but they managed to pack it into 22 minutes just fine. Nothing seemed rushed or cheap really.
The Sy-klone substory wasn't bad either. He's a pretty decent character. Though poor Battlecat. I think this was the second time he was ditched after being injured...
HEY! That happened in the dragon episode! And the dragon was here in this one!
Dragon + Battlecat = don't mix? hehe
Oh and nice explanation of how Eternia got the way it is. I never really wondered why it was light and dark halves so this as a nice bonus.
I give this episode five chickens out of five! http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gifhttp://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gifhttp://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gifhttp://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gifhttp://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

This certainly was an old school episode, but it was still good despite that. :p It was nice to see the newer villians used, although I can't say the same for the masters. Syklone's subplot... was not needed. I wouldn't have been terribly disappointed if he and Roboto had only served as wall paper throughout. And I've decided I'm going to name my child Master of the Universe. He-Man may be the good guy, but he isn't very humble.

I liked the use of Two-bad in this episode, further showing the dynamic between the two halves. The sy-clone thing had promise but it fell flat near the end. Too bad (no pun intended) they didn't go into it more. They could have shown alot more for that sub plot, I like Sy-clone and Roboto.
As for the overall episode, it definatly had the "old school" feel. The pacing and plot very much reminded me of the 80's He-man.
HORDAK!
WOW. Hordak is back! .... Kinda.
Great episode! I really wish it was a two-pater, but it is certainly an excellent episode. The Sy-Klone subplot actually made me feel a bit sad (and I'm really fearing for my dad's safety, since he's leaving my family tomorrow to drive up to Baltimore and I HATE being away from him for long periods of time. :(), but the resolution was very shmaltzy.
Two-Badd is cool! The opening and ending scenes with him are eerily reminiscent of me and my sister IRL. *laughs* That says alot about us, eh? :D
Nice to see the Dragon again.
Still... Hordak. WOW.
I give this a 8.5/10, 4.5/5.

Hordak is mentioned, the first time we've scene the sorceress in like forever as well. I'm glad that they managed to take care of the searching part within the first half. The Sy-Klone bit was slightly cheesey but not Two-Badd*gets hit by random objects* A lot of red flashes were flying today as well. And Two-Badd was pretty funny today, plus more Stinkor as well. Too bad(I'm not going to use that pun twice in one post) that we have to wait a while for the two part seasone finale.

Awesome episode. Favorite parts and tidbits:
-the Sorceress communicating with Prince Adam/He-Man telepathically was so old school. I actually had a deja vu feeling, wondering why it felt and looked eerily familiar. It was an awesome feeling though. I'm definitely biased here, but I feel Nicole Oliver does her best voice acting in Larry Ditillio's episodes. She just feels and sounds like the Sorceress I know.
-HORDAK!! This was why the episode was a must see! Just a flashback sequence with him, but it was the best part of the whole eps for me. :D
-Two-Bad beating himself up. That was just funny. :p
-Stinkor making an appearance. He's like the kid nobody wants to play with.
-Sy-Clone looking for his family. A bit of a Lilo and Stitch moral going here, and it's one I never get tired of. I went thru some family problems and really do believe it's important to know that family can extend outside of blood relatives.
-For a half hour eps, it had quite an epic feel with Eternia almost being destroyed and all, and I think it did okay for an half hour eps in that respect. Definitely looking foward to the season finale now.

Wow, HORDAK!
I can definately see why this was a "must see" episode. I did not see Hordak coming at all. Very neat surprise.
Once again, Larry DiTillio did another very good episode, and yes, I do agree that this was an old school episode. It had the feel of one of the classic episodes, but that's thanks to DiTillio. And why shouldn't Larry DiTillio be the one to bring Hordak back, after all, he introduced him in the 5 part She-Ra preimere. :)
While I love Sy-Klone, I have to agree that his sub-plot was not needed, but it did add to his character.
And Roboto and Stinkor two episodes in a row.
We got to learn more about Eternia's past and found out that Hordak was the cause of the light and dark hemisphere. Which is very cool.
The dragaon returns as well to thankfully help He-Man when Battlecat is down.
Once again, I'm left wondering what surprises we'll see in season 2. After all from Dean Stefan, "Seeds have planted in season 1 that will grow in season 2." Hordak and the Horde and/or The Snake Men anyone?
Alas, let's hope Council of Evil airs in June sometime.

This was the first episode in awhile that I actually enjoyed. I thought it was cool to learn how Eternia came to be as it was. Two-Bad is just an idiot, but many villains are:p It was nice to get a little development for Sy-Klone's character, though the message at the end was kinda after-school special-y:p;) But that's OK. Good episode!
So now we have to wait until June for the finale? Damn, I hate waiting!:p

My friend wanted to watch something else and I didn't check what time it was, so I missed it. Could anyone explain the Hordac/light+dark hemisphere thing? All I know about him is from the orginal toon. Thanks!

If I remembered correctly, many years before the beginning of the Masters of the Universe series, Hordak casted the Spell of Separation, a spell which would split the world between a light hemisphere and a dark hemisphere (with Hordak ruling the dark hemisphere). However, as Hordak discovered, the spell turned out being too powerful, and it nearly split Eternia in half literally. Thus, in order to prevent it, Hordak stopped the spell before it was too late (though Eternia kept the light and dark hemispheres that Hordak was trying to achieve) and had the the three pieces needed to cast the spell hidden in different parts of Eternia.

Cool episode. Although the subplot with Sy-Klone didn't add much to the plot, but it did it's job. Great to see Hordak mentioned though, and the dragon was from the episode "Dragon's Brood".

Hordak! Hordak! Hordak! :D
I definitely did not see that coming at all. We finally see the return of The Sorceress with some foreshadowing of what we might see in 'Council of Evil'. We get a three-in-one this time, with the Too-Bad subplot, Sy-Klone subplot, and the main story. I'm surprised how well they fit it all in the episode, though I wouldn't have minded more fleshing out of each of the three. The ending seemed like a big cop out. I was hoping for a bigger ending that was going to be a lead-in for 'Council of Evil'. Instead, we get the expected Sy-Klone plot resolved and Too Badd still fighting.
Not a bad episode at all, but it would have been better if they made this a two-parter to fit everything better. I can already see those seeds sprouting already. :) 4/5 stars.

Cool ep, making the He-man/Armada hour a grandslam this week!
Glad to see Two-Baad again, I loved the way the hands attacked the opposite heads, I had the original toy, and it could DO that, the arms would pull back and bop the other face in the kissor (sorry couldn't risist)
If only MossMan were in this one this ep could be referred to as "Assualt of the NEW Characters" I mean with T-B, Stinkor, Sy-Klone and Roboto, IIRC Mossman was the only one not included.
Hordak! I flipped when they mentioned him!
Sy-clone and Roboto's side quest was very borderline waste of time. if it weren't for S-K's minor character development
the second ha;f of the ep kinda dragged for me. the fisrstg half had me drooling for more, but did we REALLY have to see He-Man put EVERY peice back?
what was Skeletor doing uring the whole "end of Eternia" sequence, i wonder ;p ..........

Maybe he was one of the three sorcerors. Hordak was Skeletor/Keldor's mentor.

hopefully, we will see Hordak next season and go deeper into the origins of Skeletor. Keldor and Randor are brothers, or so i've read. if thats true, then how did Keldor get blue skin and pointed ears?

Interesting thought. Some posters at He-Man.org speculated that one of the sorcerors could have been Shadow Weaver too. Fun things to think about. :D

Hordak! They said Hordak!
Frankly, the whole episode seemed to be a construct in order to mention Hordak, but who cares. It was a good enough episode by itself anyway, and, well, Hordak.
I found it especially amusing how Two Badd grabbed each other's heads. The way the arms were on the 80's Two Badd figure, you could do that exact thing.

Keldor was the result of Miro's affair with Smurfette.

Hordak was the major villain in the 80's She-Ra spin off, though his action figures stayed with the He-Man toy line because the She-Ra toys were geared towards girls. He was Skeltor's mentor before he got banished from Eternia, and he's a real bad-ass compared to Skeletor. I think mostly we just love seeing how much they are borrowing from the old continuity.
The real burning question is, if they are bringing Hordak in, will they also bring in She-Ra herself? It may get crowded on Eternia, as She-Ra and Hordak both had their own groups of allies and lackies, respectively, though not near as many as He-Man and Skeletor given that the She-Ra show and toy line didn't last as long as He-Man did.

Filmation decided to use the Horde as She-Ra villains because PoP was short on villains. There's no mention of Rebels in the Horde minicomics, and Catra's action figure doesn't have the H! logo. Also, characters without Barbie hair (and Bow- he shipped as a Princess of Power figure :p) were MOTU terrain toy-wise.

Catra was, get this, the main enemy of She-ra before Filmation brought the Horde over.

i think we will see She-Ra. when the new series was developed some of the first questions by fans were, will Hordak or She-Ra show up? i'm not sure how well the figures are selling, or what the ratings for the show are but i think we will see her. if anything, Hordak and She-Ra will make cool action figures, and action figures= money.

IIRC, Catra was the only villain the She-Ra toy line ever had.
