View Full Version : Would you love to have the original TMNT on CN?

I know I would!
I've tired out the idea that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should be on Toonami. It's just out of place there. Only the first five episodes (which would make for a good one week replacement for G Gundam on Toonami as a special event) have enough action, suspense, and thrill. Most of the episodes after that don't fit Toonami at all (the Red Sky episodes would be fine though).
However it is a great cartoon and where else does it belong (other than on DVD in wonderful box sets). With as many episodes as it has it would be going without reruns for a LONG time. Furthermore its a classic for cartoon watchers of the late 80's and early 90's and would likely appeal to both young and old because of that fact.
I think they could throw it in durring the prime time block with Jackie Chan, Pokemon, X-Men:EVO, and Justice League. They could replace one of the Pokemon episodes with it and move Jackie Chan to 8:30pm and put TMNT at 8:00pm. What do you guys think?

I would love to see it again. I could rent it at my local video store, but I'm lazy. :p I still wished the new TMNT was voiced by Ocean Studios, but the cast we have now is fine. Although I do like Raphael's old voice. Rob Paulsen made him such a smartass.

Indeed, Paulsen had that certain charm to him. Even so I like the new voice. It's more New York sounding. Pretty decent casting job. I assume they were going for something that sounded like the movie voices.

Heck yeah, Donatello was a cutie. Ok, I was a 7 year old girl and I liked his voice and his smarts, and I apparently wasn't worried that he was a huge turtle.... :D
Anyway, I liked the show and seeing it again would be really fun. They show stuff like Thundercats and dated anime, why not this? :D

You know, three weeks ago I would have said "Hell yes!" immediately, relying solely upon my childhood memories of the series.
However, just a couple weeks ago a buddy of mine found an old TMNT VHS tape buried under a pile of old junk at his parents' house, so we dusted it off and watched it for old times' sake. And I hate to say it, but... the old girl hasn't aged very well. It was fun to watch one episode for nostalgia value and to remember when Mikey's faux-surfer-dude 80's slang was the coolest thing in the world to us as kids. But if it were on Cartoon Network, that's probably the extent of how often I'd watch it-- once in a great while when I happened to be bored and it happened to be on, for nostalgia and camp value alone.
This is not to say that it couldn't potentially attract a new audience that would love it as much as I did back in the day. But would I, personally, love it if it were on Cartoon Network? Nah. I'd be pretty neutral to the prospect.

Sure, I'd like to see those old eps again- it would be a nostalgia trip.
But, as it's a show intended (primarily) for younger kids, I'm not sure it would mesh well with the Toonami lineup. Right alongside Jackie Chan would be more appropriate schedualing.

And that's why I said it should be with Jackie Chan and the rest of the prime time crew. A year or so bad and it would have fitted Toonami pretty well, but now there's no way it would fit other than the Red Sky episodes and the first five pilot episodes done by Toei.

Emerging from CNF lurking status I would love to have the old TMNT on CN!
Even as I'm trying to cut back my TV viewing a bit I would love the chance to visit the original Leo, Don, Mikey and Raph one more time. I don't know if I would commit to every time viewing, but it would still be great.

to tell you the truth, i've only seen a couple of the episodes and can't really remember them... cept for an easter one that is on tape somewhere in my closet...
so in that case, sure i'd like to see it on CN, but not on Toonami, more like replacing the 8:30 pokemon like Hyper Luigi said

It might be good if it was on again because then new viewers would not see only the new series. It might make sense to show it instead of the last-week rerun on Fox Box, though.

I love that they replay last weeks. It helps me get all the episodes recorded well. It's especially awsome with 2 part episodes like this weeks!

i think it'd work the best on that saturday night block... but they could also put it on their 6:00 in the morning block if it didn't cost them much to air and if they really didn't want to put it in a more suitable time :p

It'd be great for them to bring it back, and put it on the sves block i think it would still do well.

The old one on SVES? Are you mad? That would take forever to air. There's over 100 episodes!!!

I never saw the old series so it would be interesting to check it out on CN since they would treat it well. But I probably wouldn't watch much of it cause I don't wanna possibly spoil the new series which I'm liking so far. http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

Not a problem since the two shows have practically nothing in common. The original cartoon is vastly different from the new one. The only things that are the same are the fact that it's TMNT, it has a mix of action and humor (less action after the first five episodes or some though), and it has Shredder. The original had foot soldiers that were robots, lots of mutants showing up in the later seasons, different main villains (including Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady), Baxter was a white guy that gets turned into a fly, April was a reporter for Channel 6 news, the show had a lighter tone (after the first five episodes) and there were many other differences.
Watching the old series wont spoil the new one for you at all. The new show is mainly based on the original comics, and the original had VERY little to do with those comics. No worries!

CN won't replace Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh for anything. They'll guard that like it's their jewels.
TMNT might get buried in the oui hours like The Fantastic Four or The Herculoids.
I'd like to see TMNT on CN. I'd like another chance to own this series. Is it true the mini-series (the 5-ep intro) will hit DVD this Fall?
I mostly remember the the daily syndicated broadcasts on FOX
I stopped watching the show after the Technodrome was wedged into that volcanic island in Dimension X.

If it were on, I'd watch, once in a while, but it doesn't really bother me either way.

True but TMNT deserves to be somewhere. Even if it's in the oui hours. At least then I could tape it. TMNT before Adult Swim would be nice!

sure, why not.
put tmnt on toonami.
just do me a favor, talk to those making the new tmnt to consider giving mona lisa a bigger part in the new series.
only one episode for her, she deserved better...

No luck friend. Mona Lisa from the old show was filler for the toy lines sake. Laird isn't allowing "extra mutants" this time around. Sadly this means characters like Slash, Mona Lisa, and Mondo Gecko wont be seeing the light of day.
I wouldn't put TMNT on Toonami as of now. It doesn't fit the new mood. Prime time or before Adult Swim would be fantastic!

I'd like to see this one back. I wouldn't mind if it were at 3 or 4 in the morning either.
