I checked out this site: http://ccf.toonzone.net/interview-mccracken.html and it was so cool. It actually had the inspirations of the villians:

Mojo Jojo: "Dr. Gori" (Spectreman), his helmet from "Kagestar", and dialog from “Speed Racer"
Fuzzy Lumkins: "Lurky" (Rainbow Brite) + "Precious" (The Muppets)
Him: "head Blue Meanie" (RGB)
Princess: "Vercura Salt" (Willy Wonka)
Gangrene Gang: "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids"
Sedusa: Medusa

The large city-wreaking monsters were inspired by the ones in Ultraman, Godzilla, etc. (the rubber suited monsters).

Here's my question to you guys:

What exact members of the Cosby kids inspired the Gangrene Gang? (I already know Fat Albert inspired Big Billy)

And, who inspired the Ameoba Brothers?

Actually, I don't know about the Gangreens being inspired from Fat Albert. From what I read somewhere, they were more inspired by those hot-rod posters with the freaked out guys. (many of them looking like Grubber)

As for the Amoeba Boys, they are pretty much a combination of the "stupid" bit with the "gangster" bit....see various movies and cartoons from the 1930's and 1940's to understand that. (for some reason, though, the leader's voice reminds me of some celebrity made fun of in "Racketeer Rabbit", but I can't remember who that was....and it wasn't the Peter Lorre character)

I remember hearing A sound file from Cartoon Network's web site where Craig McCracken said that The Gangreen Gang were inspired by Big Daddy Roth, (Who did those Rat Fink car designs) and made the gang into what Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids would look like if Big Daddy Roth had created, and designed them. I wouldn't mind seeing Craig do an episode where they're preforming A song with junk yard instruments. Ace could play the guitar like Rudy, and Big Billy could play that ocordian like Fat Albert.

Y'know, speaking of Him, while I do agree that his voice and mannerisms come much from the head Blue Meanie, I always thought his looks were more like glam rock....Y'know, Ziggy Stardust and the lot.

Him reminds me of Dr. Frankenfurter from the RHPS

Robinson, an actor who was sort of type-cast as a gangster, and caricatured in cartoons from the 1930's onward. The most recent caricature in a cartoon of him I can think of was in "Cats Don't Dance."

I can think of a more recent incarnation:
Samurai Jack: Episode XII: Jackie the Blade
those gangstas were hella funny

I'm glad they didn't make Scarface (BTAS/TNBA) a clone copy of EGR, would've been a bit too hammy. He had the lingo & was still menacing.

If you like the idea of the GGG as musicians, you'll probably enjoy this *very* well-done image by Rabbit (posted at PPG World's 'Artwork and Comics' forum):

Him seems to owe something to stand-up comedienne Judy Tenuda as well, with the sing-song voice suddenly changing into a harsh, growly shout for comedic effect.

I like that picture alot. The gang kinda reminds me more of Gorillaz than Fat Albert & The Csoby Kids.

For the record, there actually is a word for giant, rampaging japanese movie monsters. "Kaiju" is just japanese for "monster" (has a couple other meanings that I can't recall) but elsewhere it is used specifically when referring to monsters of the tremendous, city-wrecking variety. "Daikaiju" is also used. It's not used as often, but it's a little more appropriate than simply "kaiju" as it roughly translates as a "great" or "mysterious" monster.

All I can think of that people call "RGB" is the Real Ghostbusters, but blue meanies are from the Beatle's trippy animated movie, Yellow Submarine.

Him always reminded me of Tim Curry since he played both Dr. Frankenfurter (who has the same wardrobe) and Satan in the movie "legend". I'm not offended by "religious" content or demons, but I actually like him better as a more vague evil character than simply the devil. It makes him more unique.

I think the Amoeba boys are just built around the premise of the most pathetic and lowly villains ever also being the most simplistic lower-lifeforms in nature (protozoa)
