In case no one knows, an Inu Yasha fighting game is coming this week to the PS One. It's titled "Inu Yasha: Sengoku Otogi Kassen".It's a 2-D fighter with some good graphics, good gameplay, and also a few stuff to unlock. The charcters in the game range from Inu Yasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango, Shippo, Sesshomaru, Kikyo, Naruku, Kouga, Kagura, and two other secret charcters. I've already pre paid for my copy and I can't wait to play it. :)
Also in case anyone wants to know the game is in English but, the charcters still speak in their original Japanese dialogue.
If anyone has more info on this game or comments please share. I might not know something. THANKS :harley:

I'm going to try to rent this over the weekend. EGM gave it a 6.0, which is slightly above average.

It was supposed to be out today, so I went to get it and Final Fantasy Origins today...FFO was in, but no Inuyasha...the EB guy said it wasn't in their shipment for some reason...
Anyway, I'll get it when I see it...$20 for what should be a decent (2D, hooray!) fighter is worth it to me.

From what I've heard, the "Inuyasha" game is a lot like "Dragonball Z: Budokai". How? It's more fun if you're a fan of the series; if not, then stay away from the simplistic fighter.

I would get it, but there are characters in the game that have not been introduced in the series yet. So I'm simply going to wait until I'm sure there will be no spoilers.

Sure, I'm going to get this game tommorow when I go to the mall. I just hope my EB and other video game stores have it. I like how arxane put it; "It's more fun if you're a fan of the series; if not, then stay away from the simplistic fighter". Simple, yet incredibly fun. Anybody got a list of all the characters you can get, secret and standard?

You start out with only Inu Yasha and Kagome, but as you play through the Story Mode you will unlock:
Shippo
Kikyo
Sango
Miroku
Toutousai (the old guy who breathes fire)
Naraku
Koga
Sesshomaru
Kagura
Full-Demon Inu Yasha
I placed spoilers on characters that haven't been introduced yet...
It's worth a rental to pound Kikyo into the ground.

I hadn't heard any word on it, but if I go to the mall this weekend I'll be sure to pick it up. It'll be sweet to see what kind of things the characters can do. Plus, who needs to understand the dialogue? I DON'T! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....

I'd play it just to have some insanely silly battles like Shippo vs. Naraku or something. Actually, Shippo vs. anyone seems kinda silly. There's a list of characters and their moves at http://www.gamespot.com/ps/action/inuyashasengokuotogikassen/index.html. Dude, maybe I'll play as Toutousai so I can drop my cow on people!

Good point. :p
Planning to rent it if I can to see how good it is before buying. Will most likely end up buying it either way, since I love the show and have seen many episodes past where we are in ASA, so won't have to worry about spoilers.

I don't really play games like that, but I did get the Inu-Yasha artbook the other day. Someone at the Cowboy Bebop movie screening told me about it. I got it at Barnes & Noble. It's really cool, & it even has an interview with Rumiko Takahashi & the Japanese VAs.

PS--Speaking of things that haven't come out on time, I've been trying to find the Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star manga that was supposed to come out this week but haven't been able to find it in the usual places that sell manga. Has anyone been able to get a copy? Oh, well--I bought a couple of Inu-Yasha mangas instead.

It's a PS1 game, so the MSRP is only $20.

I finally got it today and I LOVE IT!
The fighting is kinda storybased. You meet diff. fighters on a path. Dialogue in Japanese happenes between each charcter. Good thing there's English text :bosko:
Each fighter and backgrounds look wonderful. The graphics are so bright and colorful. Each character has at least 3 Special Moves and 1 Super Move. The controls are WAY EASY to pull so don't worry about getting your fingers sore.
Even while in the game's story mode, you collect shards of the sacred jewel to unlock new items, charcters, and options.
God this is so cool. I reallly should be playing Zelda but, I can't help it. Inu Yasha owns me. Gotta go play it again...NOW.
Later.

ok I ended up going to the mall right before it closed... I got the last copy that the EB had. There was a guy right behind me who was trying to get the game so i kind of felt like an ass so if it was any of you I apoligise... but they should have gotten there earlier... anyway so far the game is great. For a fighting game the story is great, you dont really fight for no reason at all... the dialogue works it way in. I also like hearing the Japaneese voices it gives a nice style to the game. All in all this is one of the bast fighting games I have played. The controls are simple and responsive, I do wish that there were more moves but its all good. So far my favorite part so far is when I kicked Kikyos ass with Kagome... the move looked like the ***** slap from hell. and at the 20 dollar price mark I recomend this game to everyone.
so far I give it a 9.0 out of 10 (I have only played for an hour so this is just my preliminary
what did everyone else think of the game so far??

The game is alot different than I expected. I was thinking it would be a suckily done straight up 2D brawler, but it was far from it. The story mod ise definatly where the fun is at. Even though the themes are a bit simplistic, the cut scenes use some really sharp graphics, and they get the job done. The fighting itself is extremely reminiscent of Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle for the SNES.....and the in fight graphics are, too, which is the most unfortunate portion of the game. Despite the fact that the characters should be unbalanced based on the series, they actually seem to be on equal footing. I realized this when I took on Shippo in my first fight and got my ass pounded into the dirt by him. The moves themselves aren't generic, and each fighter seems to have been animated from scratch. For example, when blocking with Shippo, a glowing blue fox(His dads spirit?) appears to shield him from the hits. Sango blocks using her boomberang, and it also seems to fluidly mesh with her every movement. Basically, they carry over their flavor from the Anime very well. If you're not a fan of the series, you're probably going to have a tough time getting into the game, unless you're younger, I suspect. But otherwise, it's solid....glad I spent the cash on it. Hopefully with this one seeming to sell out quick, they'll sink some real coin into making a PS2 one. I'd love to see Capcom or Namco get liscensed to handle this.

This is a pretty good game, although I would have loved it if it was in 3D. The Toys R Us I went to had a lot of them left in stock. I think I'm the first person who bought it there.
Does anyone know any cheats or codes for the game?

Sounds like a good game. I wish I had a PSone to play it on. Maybe a friend will pick it up. I wonder if they have an Inu Yasha fighter for M.U.G.E.N. by now...

How in the hell do you collect enough shards using Totosai? I've gotten every single one in the feudal fairy tale mode and I still can't get enough to satisfy Myoga.
Solitude1
04-20-2003, 04:21 PM
If you want the last character, you'll have to beat it with Totasai about 3-4 times. Make sure when starting the pathway, you go staight to the mini-games and then to the fighters who have jewel shards. You can tell by looking at the charcter, they should be glowing.
Also before you start your game as Totasai, Myoga will tell you how many you have and how many you need. Surprisingly this is backwards. Whatever he tells you the amount of shards you have, that is actually the total YOU NEED to complete his mission.
Yeah, Ban Dai really screwed up that part. :p
Hope this helps.
Later.

If you lose with Totasai do you have to start over? I'm really trying to get the second Inuyasha.

If you lose the continue screen comes up and you will start at the beginning of the fight you lost. You don't lose any shards over losing a round.

ya whats up with the last secret character, does come from later in the cartoon?

Yes, he does. Notice that the last Inu Yasha ep shown introduced Kouga. After this ep, two more charcters are introduced: "the woman with the fans"and "the secret last character "you just mentioned.
I can't wait for the new eps! :)

I finally beat it. The thing is, you can play the quest again and keep the shards that you had the time before. Therefore, the only way to unlock the final character is to beat it TWICE using Totosai.

How do you unlock Totosai?
Beat the game with everyone. The last person you should beat it with, should be Naruku. After u beat it, Myoga will come up and give u a special message saying there are still 2 characters to unlock.
To unlock Totosai, go back to the backpack and play all of the 3 minigames. You MUST get a new high score with every game.
After that Myoga should appear again and tell you that Totosai is now unlocked.
Now you must beat the game 3 to 4 times with Totosai to get the last character.

Here's my 3 cents worth...
Here are some Con's...
1. There are no english voice overs.
2. The controls are a bit too simple. (Everyones moves are based on the same back back square or down down square function.)
3. The match ups in fale tale mode are silly. (Shippo wants to fight Kagome because she wouldn't give her any chocolate or potato chips.)
4. Once again, there is little english in the game...just be ready to read some.
Here are some Pro's...
1. The game only cost 20 bucks.
2. There are several unlockable characters. (Enough to keep you playing for several hours.)
3. The graphics aren't too bad, it's what to be expected from a playstation one game.
4. The game is pretty fun over all.
5. If you are a big fan, you will love it.
Once it's all said and done I guess I got my twenty bucks worth. A fun game that keeps me busy for several hours. After I do the math and realize that two movie tickets and some popcorn cost more than this I felt a bit better.
Anyway, I'd say give it a shot. If you are going to get it, just buy it. Most rental places cost at least six bucks plus tax just to rent it for a few days, then if you forget to return the game on time you have to play for it again...blah blah blah. Just buy it, it's worth having it in your collection.
