It may be old news but after finally buying all of Hellsing on DVD I would have to say that there is no way, no way in hell that this could air respectably on Adult Swim yet. Once AS raises its standards for content then maybe in the far future we may see Arucard and Co on CN. As for the show itself, it is one of the best action shows that I have ever seen, killer crisp animation with characters that reek of utter coolness. A fantastic english voice track and a mature, clever script. Crispin Freeman nails his role as Arucard along with many other voice actors in the series. I love the way they actually set the show in England instead of Japan and the Protestant vs Catholic background of this series is great as well. This is a show to put on display to show just how cool and stylish Japanese animation can be. Hellsing is definetly among the tops in my favorites list. I want more of this show, heres hoping for a second season.

Well...I've only seen two episodes so far, so I can't speak for the whole series, but what I've seen could probably make it on air with a little editing. Of course, one of the problems is some of the religious content...and we really have no definite idea of what CN's stance is on that.

Things like:
The priest in episode one, after being shot by Alucard, slamming against the wall onto the cross, with his arms out as if he was being crucified.might cause a few problems.

But, I think it might be able to make it...I've always kinda thought that we could go from something like Reign, to something a bit more violent like Hellsing, and finally to something even more violent like Berserk. But, I'll need to see all of Hellsing and Berserk (only seen nine eps) before I can say that with certainty.

You should first see the ending of Berserk and wonder how AS could get around that. :p

(Especially if they actually make a manga-based 2nd season and thus have to explain it.)

Don't get my wrong, I love Hellsing, but as for "killer crisp animation," you are only partialy right. It is true that many of the episodes have good animation, but that drastically changes throughout the series. IMO, it seems that the animation goes from good, to worse, then back to good again.

The Japanese voice track is good, but I have yet to hear the english one. I hear its pretty good, although I have heard that Crispin Freeman is not nearly as good his Japanese counterpart. Everything I've read says that it takes a few episodes for him to nail down his part.

While I haven't seen that far in Berserk, I do know what you are referring to...and to know how AS would handle that, I'd need to see two things:

1) The actual scene, just to see how cutting it would affect the episode.

2) *TRIGUN AND BERSERK SPOILERS*
In the "Rem Saverem" episode of Trigun, there's a scene where one of the crew members is accused of raping another of the crew members. If they let that through, then it's possible that they could censor the scene of Casca being raped and just infer that she was. Sure, it'd be a rather large edit, but it might work.

You know, religious references are allowed on Adult Swim. Since when have they not been?

"Sweet Zombie Jesus" is the only one I can think of.

That's because you can't use the word "Jesus" as an interjection on Cartoon Network, at least before 12. Making references to Jesus is fine, like when Brak's Dad said "Who, Jesus?" when Brak said "He's coming".

I know they're allowed, but it seems like there's a limit...I think something particularly offensive would be cut...though Brain Scratch has quite a bit of stuff that might offend people...

At any rate, Family Guy should be a good test of the limits of the religious censoring.

Nah, they're actually pretty leniant on religious stuff. Remember the Lupin III episode? They did reject the original version of the "Feast of Alvis" episode, but that episode was probably really pushing the limit of political correctness.

three words for ya about the religion policy, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, if they were so strict about religion why would they allow a show with a chain-smoking womanizing priest with a cross-shaped gun?

Hellsing is a dark and twisted anime that would never be shown on ASA unless it was cut down to 5 minutes an episode. Thats only 2 minutes more that Bezerk and 3 minutes less that LBG. :p

La Blue Girl would work, you just need a lot of digital clothing and references to tomato soup.

I don't see a problem with Wolfwood. I mean, they let his Buddhist equivalent slip by on Inu-Yasha.

As for Hellsing, there is no way it'll ever end up on AS. I don't know how well known this is, but Hellsing actually began as hentai in the magazine "Young King Ours" (I think that was the book), I know it's not hentai any more, but there still enough uneditable "sexual things" in it to drive the sensors mad (Victoria, for example).
