View Full Version : Will you record Family Guy episodes or buy the Family Guy DVDs?

This question has been on my mind for awhile. Being a die hard AS fan, I tape just about all the episodes from the shows. However, with the Family Guy DVD coming out soon, I don't know whether I want to start taping the episodes or if I just want to wait and buy the DVDs. I'll probably end up getting the DVDs, but I might wait awhile in order to find a good deal (or I could just put it on my birthday wish list, considering my birthday is 4/20 {coincidence?}). I'm just curious what other people are planning on doing.
I'm going to be taping, because I am the god of taping (worship me!), but mostly just because there are so many other things I want to buy on DVD right now.

I'm going to buy the DVD's.

Tapes are much lower quality than the DVDs, plus they degrade over time. And unless you're taping in SLP/EP, then the blank tapes will cost you quite a bit...
I'm going to watch them on TV and buy the DVDs.

Plus AS will no doubtedly be editing the episodes. It's almost a safe bet to say the Jesus/Incredible Hulk joke won't make it into the episode where- where are the spoiler tags?

eh, i'll prolly just watch it. thought about taping it, not enough tapes though. recording Reign and DBZ had wiped me out.

Damn it people! How many times does someone have to explain this! Go to the FAQ and read number 16. You can make all of the references to Jesus you want on Cartoon Network, but the interjection Jesus is an expletive that was censored.... ONCE! ONCE!
Think of all of the times they've allowed references to Jesus and Christianity.
1) The Brak Show. "Who, Jesus?" (I forget which episode that was from)
2) Cowboy Bebop, episode "Ballad of Fallen Angels" (features a mafia related battle in a dilapidated chapel)
3) Lupin III, episode "Buns, Guns, and Fun in the Sun (the whole episode revolves around Christ the Redeemer, the statue of Jesus in Rio De Janeiro, featuring the statue being airlifted and used to smuggle money, and as a weapon, and features Jesus incarnating himself in the statue and joking about killing a police officer)
4) Futurama, episode "A Tale of Two Santas" (Features Zoidburg dressed as Jesus)
5) Trigun, one of the characters is a priest with a cross-shaped gun
6) ATHF, episode "MC Pee Pants" (features a visual gag involving hell)
7) Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast, episode Sweet For Brak (The whole episode involves Satanism)
8) Sealab 2021, episode "Feast of Alvis" (although the Cartoon Network made Williams Street edit out all of the proper religious names, it's still blatantly blasphemous and is implying that Jesus is an alcoholic)
9) Futurama, episode "Futurestock" (Features a robot Bat Mitzvah and a reference to "Robot Jesus")
10) Home Movies, episode "Time to Pay the Price" ("Jesus-zilla, son of Godzilla")
There, those are ten Adult Swim references to Jesus and/or Christianity regularly allowed on Adult Swim (and I can think of more). There's only been one time Jesus was censored, and that was when it was used as an interjection. The term "Jesus" being used as an interjection was probably too obscene for the PG rating, and it was before midnight, or possibly the head of programming didn't like it and they quickly bleeped it out before air. If the latter's the case, Mike Lazzo's the head of programming, and from what I understand, he's more liberal then that other guy when it comes to those type of things. Even if that wasn't the case, I doubt they'd ever consider deleting references to Christianity from Family Guy; most of them would involve deleting half the scene. So the bottom line is, Jesus people, it happened once. Let it go
But getting back on subject, considering my VCR doesn't work but my DVD player does, I'd buy the DVDs. But considering Adult Swim re-runs their shows to death, and I prefer episodically tuning in and watching every episode, I doubt I'll be doing either.

DVD! I have mine reserved and paid in full! When I want to watch just one specific episode it is so much easier to just pop in the DVD and watch it instead of having to try and find it on a VHS tape.
Of course when I found out that the DVD's are going to be edited (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_6/familyguy_v1.html) I did waver on picking them up. But since I get so much use out of my Simpsons, Futurama, and Buffy DVD's I figured I might as well get Family Guy also.

Barely edited. It's a shame if that Bin Laden edit keeps anybody from buying the DVD.

I'm going to buy the DVDs and tape the episodes that are not on them yet, just in case Fox decides not to release the second boxed set.

Actually I was more concerned about the fact that an entire episode (When You Wish Upon a Weinstein) is going to be left off. I don't mind one or two edits here or there (well I mind a little, but I can understand) however leaving an entire episode off is sort of silly. Especially since the people buying the DVD are the hard core fans of the show and are not likely to be offended by much of anything.

i think everyone's overhyping the content of Family Guy. it doesn't get as bad as you may remember it. there's the occasional racist remark, but it's not all THAT intense.

If that episode isn't on the third season DVD, then I'll complain. Although it probably should be on this one.

CN isn't airing it because FOX wouldn't send it to them.

Does anyone know if they'll release other DVDs with the rest of the Family Guy seasons?

I'm taping this show the minute it comes on Easter. I don't care if CN edits out anything; I'll find out when it's over. I'm going to tape those episodes and that's that.

I don't have money so I won't by the DVDs yet. Someday I will.
Until then, I'll just watch.
I only tape when there isn't a good DVD available.

Season 3 comes out in September along with Futurama Season 2. Then that's it for Family Guy.
