View Full Version : The Grass is Greener: What I Would Do if I Had Cable

I have a 56k modem. It's not bad, because it's internet, and I've lived with far slower connections before. I've yet to smell the cool grassy scent of a cable connection, because it's way too expensive and just not worth it. But, that doesn't mean I can't make a wish list. So, here it is for you guys.
What I Would Do if I Had Cable
1) Download the complete series of: BTAS, TNBA, BB, JL, Stargate: SG-1, and MacGyver.
2) Download everything in sight.
3) Leave AIM on at all times, and with no away or idle message, just to piss people off. :D
4) Flaunt my constant connection with friends and family.
5) Download stuff.
6) Play Starcraft and kick ass with my no laggy computer.
7) Oh yeah, I'd download things, too.
So, what's on your cable connection wishlist?
:D (I needed to write a bit of senseless humor. Ignore me.)
Cable? Oh I wish ...
I live in the countryside, its only 9 miles from a big town that does have cable but to the phone company (British telecom) I may as well be living on the dark side of the moon. Strangely though this doesn't stop them from delivering junk mail extolling the virtues of cable right to my address.
It would be great to just leave the net running all the time rather than wait for the dial up and watch it faff about when the line's busy. Hmmm, I'd leave my AIM /ICQ running as I'm notorious for missing people and then getting chewed up for it. Download decent stuff without fear of the line dropping at some vital point, midway through the 90 plus minutes, play a few online games without getting the killer lag (literally, you're still pressing the fire button and haven't realised you're already dead) ... heck I don't know, just revel in not clunking along like a drunken horse I guess

Well, for me, I have to have it for business purposes... I spend about 45 a month, but thats because I already have cable in the house... Otherwise its 55 a month here.

Why is cable so expensive in the states...
I hardly know anyone who has dial up anymore.

Reading these topics want to make me gloat about how I've had cable for 2 years :)
"Hehe, 56kers. They're like people, only slower"

How much is cable Internet service in your area, SilverKnight? Here in Greenville, SC, I'm paying just $15 more than I would have if I only had digital cable service.

I've had it 1 year, atf487.
Waitaminute. Is DSL the same as cable? Oh well, it's still faster than 56K, and now I can never go back.

No, but they're both considered broadband, so...

I have not downloaded anything in well over one year, so a cable connection would not be a huge benefit for me. I am used to the 56k modem, because it has been here since I started using the internet a lot.

Well I'm going to upgrade my ISP to a more faster service and faster speed too, at 1.5 Megs a second speed and I'm not sure when that will be.

*sigh* I have cable access at work, but a phone line at home. I wouldn't mind paying extra for it, but where I live they don't even have cable for TV :(

Well, it's something like $50 a month, or so I've been told. Right now, we're paying about $20 or so for our connection. It's $30 extra bucks a months, but hey, there's always fun in hoping, right? :D

Once you get boardband, you will never go back to 56k again.
You will be downloading stuff you never downloaded before with boardband.

If I had cable, my 120 GB hard drive would fill up in a matter of hours.
