My internet connection speed never stays constant (I think that applies to everyone), but I wanted to see if my current speed is decent:
2003-03-18 11:10:59 EST: 883 / 150
Your download speed : 883248 bps, or 883 kbps.
A 107.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 150150 bps, or 150 kbps.
This is from dslreports.com. So, what do you guys think of my speed?

It depends on how much per month that you are spending and on what type of connection that you are using. The speed rating seems ok yet if using either DSL, Cable, or better, it probably could be a bit faster though on both the upstream and downstream.

Which ISP are you using?
What kind of connection are you on? (DSL? Cable?)
From the looks of those speeds it seems you have an ADSL line where the download speed will always be greater than the upload speed.

I have Charter Pipeline: Silver Service, which costs me about $50/month. It's OK, but I know there are better connections out there. I just can't afford them.

If you want to gauge the speed of your connection properly, This site, may be of some use. (http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/) Also, ask your ISP what your connection should be. there could be any number of reasons as to why it could be slow.

Well even on a network here, it is getting a bit slower since MSN it is getting popular with most people, and it is not aways good.

It gave me:
Communications: 42.5 kilobits per second
Storage: 5.2 kilobytes per second
1MB file download: 3.3 minutes

Here's a forum on Charter Pipeline here (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/charter).
The FAQ (http://www.chartercom.com/service/faqs/charterpipeline_faqs.asp) states:
How fast will a cable modem download and upload data?
Network speeds can reach up to 27 Mbps, but speeds will also depend on the service level to which you subscribe. The asymmetric cable modem scheme is the most common type of cable network setup, and will allow for a faster data transmission rate (higher bandwidth) on the downstream data path than the upstream data path. This network setup works well since most cable modem users download more information than they send. For example, downloading web pages and multimedia files and participating in newsgroups requires much more bandwidth than sending web page requests or e-mail.

Given your download time, I assume you are on a 56k modem.

I got:
Communications: 603.7 kilobits per second.
Storage: 73.7 kilobits per second.
And it takes me 13.7 seconds to download 1 megabyte.
And it said that my connection speed was FANTASTIC :D ! So get a sattelite connection.

Its funny... The guy who showed me this site (a tech with Time Warner Cable) was impressed by my bandwith (this was during the busy times)...
2 meg downstream
276.4 kb upstream
He was in awe and envious of the fact that I am getting as good as the business accounts (residential Roadrunner usually clocks lower).
