I coulda sworn that we've got one or two officers hanging around here, or at least some people familiar with that kinda of job. Anyhoo, here's the question: Is there a difference between the cops I see with white shirts, and those with the blue/black shirts? Like in real life I normally see the ones with the latter shirts. But sometimes, depending on the series, I've seen some shows where they have white shirts on.

Who cares! They all remind me of G1 Prowl anyways. *drools*

Hmm I dunno, I see 'em mostly just in blue...I think it may depend on the individual dept. or maybe the nature of their assignments...I dunno...ask the other N.C. TZers they'd be much more helpful on the subject than I. :)

Not sure if this is completely the same application, however it all deals with law enforcement type personnel...
When I interned & worked in a prison my Sr. year of college, the regular Correctional Officers wore the blue/grey uniforms while the Lieutenants and up wore the white shirts. I *think* it's pretty much a standard in the field that the lower ranks wear the blue/grey/black uniforms while the upper level ranks wear the white... but then again, I could be completely wrong ;)

I think its by organization... I know around here (including NYC) that the police wear blue or black in both their regular and ceremonial unifmorms while fire departments wear white.
The only cop I know of around here that wheres a white shirt is a parking enforcement officer... and most people dont consider him a real cop anyway (everyone is convinced hes a relative of one of the politicians or high ranks police officers in the town and got it as a favor). :p

When I was a kid the cops in my small desert town all wore tan, but switched to the blues so that they would be more easily identified.

All the cops I've ever seen in my neck of the woods have darker shirts - navy blue at lightest, black at darkest - and white cars with blue highlights. In many movies I see, it's always the lighter blue shirt and blue car combo. I guess it just depends on what jurisdiction you live in. Some cities like light, some like dark. :p

The actual cops I've seen always have the darkk blue/black shirts on. Except for highway patrol cops, they always have tan clothing on. Maybe I should ask the cops across the street, hehe.

A number of cops I see up here wear red, too - but they're usually on horseback and just posing for tourists. How humiliating.

It makes sense for them to use the colors based on rank or job, but each department can have its own policy.
