Preface: Have no fear, this isn't another "YYH moving to Toonami sux" thread. I do hope the mods don't mind this here, since, as you'll be reading this is related to AS because it concerns the effect on the Adult Swim/Unedited DVD versions of the show. Plus the show still is a part of AS right now anyway.
So, today I was rewatching one of the Byakko Episodes with my young cousin, since it was one of the episodes he hadn't seen yet, and I had nothing better to do, and now with the knowladge of the show moving to Toonami, i was able to notice something.
Almost of the dialouge, even ignoring the cursing, is very "intense". What I mean is, all the inumerable mentions of death and threatening of death ("I'm going to rip you apart and eat you" and "I enjoy killing large groups of prey" were practically the only things coming out of Byakko's mouth.) The entire St. Beasts mission is about three fighters talking bout how their fighting comrade is as sure as dead.
And the amount of insults, cursing aside, is extremley high. Also, the humor is a bit mean spirited (the punishment of a hundred spankings is a laugh riot, but I haven't ever heard any term related to "spankings" on TV unless it has sexual connotations.)
Now, the point I'm getting at is, now that Funi knows the show is going to Toonami, do you think they'll start "watering down" the dialouge to avoid using the word kill so much, and changing the dialouge a bit so it's not as "mean"?
Obviously, making such changes would be more than the making a couple of instances of alternate dialouge for cut and uncut scenes, since the constant death refrences the fighters make and some of the jokes would be conciously altered, something that effects any "cut" of the show. (Sorta like DBZ how Kami isn't refered to a god in any "cuts" of DBZ because of Funi knowing religous terms won't fly. So instead of dubbing in different terminology for every single refrence in both versions, they don't because it's expensive, time consuming and just plain uneconomical.)
