HOLY FLYING MONKEY CRAP! Cartoon Network has aquisitioned the ultra violent, super depressing Blue Gender series! I'm... I'm in SHOCK... O.O;

Yeah, it's now on the news page. However, they didn't put it with the other adult swim news (Like Trigun) and put it with the regular aquisitions (Like SD Gundam and .Hack/Sign). I'm guessing that will mean they'll either try to air it on Toonami or someone got their signal wrong and it will come to Adult Swim sometime down the road (Hopefully, not on the Toonami Pipeline. Heh, joke, funny).

Blue Gender was originally pitched to Adult Swim back in late 2001, so I don't see why it WOULDN'T be there. I imagine AS needs something new from FUNi to fill in the void left behind by YYH.

I'm really glad this series is so violent all of the time that it working on Toonami is flat out IMPOSSIBLE. ^>^

Well YYH ain't dyin' real quick, 115 episodes ain't nothin' to sneeze at. And I never knew Blue Gender has been pitched. o.o
Hmmm... Okay.
Adult Swim needs to expand to 10:00 to keep all of their new shows.

There's a lot of stuff included there that doesn't reference either block, though. Like Kikaider and Big O. I don't know that we can necessarily assume anything about where it's going based on that.

I think the original post was referring to the Funimation void in Adult Swim, since YYH has moved to Toonami.

That's what I' thinking also, recently we've been getting confirmations on a lot of new Adult Swim shows, yet there's so many that we don't know how WS will manage it and find time for everything.

I wouldn't be surprised if the shows just disappear at a faster rate now than they did before. I certainly see no reason to continually rerun Reign, Lupin (or even Cowboy Bebop) just becasue they can. It sounds like some of these new shows can carry the action block as well as any of the current shows.

They could make Sunday AS longer and make weeknights all good stuff, err I mean make weeknights all ASA. Or maybe make it Futurama followed by all ASA shows. But BG can replace Reign and Big O might need to replace Lupin or they could have it replace Blue Gender or vice versa since both are 26 episode series.

Yes, I do. ^.^ I'm probably the Oblongs biggest fan. Why? Because while it is crude and depressing, it's a mix of Married with Children, Family Guy and Scary Susie (Think that's the name) and I love all three. ^.^ (Well, never seen the last one, but MwC and Family Guy are fun. ^.^)

LOGICALLY, if CN decided to expand AS till 10, it would probably look like this (if it were in MAY)
10:00 Futurama
10:30 Home Movies
11:00 Inu Yasha (new)
11:30 Trigun (new)
12:00 Lupin III (new?)
12:30 Reign
1:00 Cowboy Bebop
1:30 Inu Yasha/Lupin III/(or)Trigun
They would probably repeat one of the old shows....i dont see it happening just yet...

All I can say is...
"That is a ****-load of acquisitions!"
Not only do we get confirmation of shows like "Rurouni Kenshin", but now we get surprises like "Blue Gener". Holy crap, CN is staying in the game all right! What anime channel?
And as for "Blue Gener"...I see no reason why it won't come to Adult Swim just because it isn't listed under the AS banner in that press release. Please notice that they list 13 new episodes of "The Big O" under the same place as "Blue Gender", so obviously that list is just that: new acquisitions.
But yeah, Cartoon Network is kicking ass and taking names. Bring it on! Who the **** needs sleep?

Because Futurama will draw people to Adult Swim. More Futurama, at an earlier time, means better ratings. I wouldn't be surprised if they doubled up on Futurama if AS expanded to four hours.

Actually, I wouldn't mind another hour of comedy. The action part already has two hours, so why can't the comedy have another hour? This is my schedule for weekdays, but it won't happen for a LONG time:
10:00 - TV-MA comedy programming
10:30 - TV-MA comedy programming
11:00 - Futurama
11:30 - Home Movies
12:00 - Trigun
12:30 - Inuyasha
1:00 - Blue Gender
1:30 - Lupin the 3rd
Once Z Gundam(the Uncut Version) comes, it will replace Trigun. Or, CN could make each weekday have a different schedule, with different programming, but then people would probably get confused.

I find it funny how that if Adult Swim cuts out some of the blood and does needed edits here and there it's just a fact of life.
No doubt tho, if Toonami did the very same edits there'd be riots in the streets and a call for the show to come to Adult Swim.
:p
VinceA
02-21-2003, 01:22 PM
I don't think it's an issue of the "very same edits". I think it's a matter of degree. AS shows seem less edited than Toonami shows. Going from a gallon of blood to a half a gallon of blood is one thing. Going from a gallon of blood to no blood (or a drop) is another.
KingKoopa
02-21-2003, 01:42 PM
A perfect example is the first episode of Bebop. A guys head is shot through, and while some blood was erased, there was enough to make it make sense.
Nik Jam
02-21-2003, 03:50 PM
Cowboy Bebop SHOULD come back, but not till the end of the year. Trigun should leave in August or September. Then they could advertise "Two of the greatest Action Anime of all time from 1-2AM!" in November

Because the Action block actually needs extra time for new shows, and the Comedy doesn't unless there's something I don't know about.

There's only ONE show that'll be off-air, and the entire board's pretty much in agreement that it needs a break anyway. When Blue Gender comes in, Reign will be overplayed, and will take a much-needed break. Two hours is FINE. The fact is, the Comedy block is popular. The Action block isn't.
Also, I revised my theoretical 4-hour schedule.
10:00 - Home Movies
10:30 - ATHF/Birdman/Brak/Sealab
11:00 - Family Guy
11:30 - Futurama
(Adult Swim Action 12-2)
They'd probably want to keep Futurama and Family Guy in a relatively non-competitive timeslot to keep ratings up. Futurama's run through once, and since Family Guy's semi-new, they'd want to keep Family Guy on the least competitive slot of all, not when any of the major talk shows are on. Futurama's still in a decent slot as well.

I posted this Idea in the announcement of all the new shows acquired, Blue Gender might Possibly be Adult Swim's first TV-MA program due to the violent content, even with heavy editing.
This is just so funny since I suspected that Blue Gender might have had a shot on T.V. after it was released completly on DVD, from what I know it has already aired in the U.K. otherwise I will watch it and be glad I own the un-edited DVDs

Yeah, Blue Gender starts off weak, but turns around and is incredible.
The dub.....IS EXCELLENT! One of the best dubs..
GRR...why is FUNimation putting all their shows on CN? Of course, PIONEER and BANDAI, soon ADV do the same thing.
so, its not just FUNi.
Yeah, TV-MA....maybe..
But, all they need to do is EDIT some breasts and some of Episode 15, and some other nudity. Blood will be a LITTLE bit edited.
Also, the ENDING CREDITS!
Nude Marlene....KEEP IT, but edit it. All the Japanese Credits are listed, and the English.
Don't shorten it though.
Animation is wonderful for the series.
Some episodes are weak, ESPECIALLY 9 and 15's animation, but all the others are good. the face (eye lashes) change.

OK Here's my schedule if AS goes into a 10:00-1:30 schedule:
10 Lupin the Third
10.5 Lupin the Third
11 Lupin the Third
11.5 Lupin the Third
12 Lupin the Third
12.5 Lupin the Third
1 Lupin the Third
1.5 Lupin the Third
This is, of course, a joke....
A better (and more realistic) schedule:
10:00 Futurama
10:30 Family Guy
11:00 Lupin the Third
11:30 Trigun
12:00 InuYasha
12:30 The Big O
1:00 Zeta Gundam
1:30 Blue Gender
I own most of Blue Gender, it should probably be the latest-run show of all of those due to its sexual and violent content. Lupin is a great comedy/action mix to draw in the comedy crowd to ASA, and shouldn't be shunned to the end of the schedule to be forgotten about. Trigun is a step in a similar direction, and the comedy/action mix should keep people tuned in for InuYasha, which is mostly story (and some action) with bizarrely anime-comedic Rumiko Takahashi elements. The Big O I never saw, but it seemed to take itself seriously from what I've read, so it, Zeta, and Blue all seem to be a good setup together.
Just my thoughts, and once a week is plenty for the huge ASC lineup, IMHO ^_^. (Saying something like that is probably heresy to many on this board)....

I think the Second schedule below seems to be a very good idea for the shows on AS, also Blue Gender at 1:30 AM is a very good time for such violent animes to be aring at that time.

I took another look at your schedule, and the only major problem with it is the rotating shows (Mon+Tues/Wed+Thurs). It's organized, yes, but it'd drive viewers nuts. Having shows only being shown half the time on a near-weekdaily run is just kind of silly. On the weekdays, the shows should be on all week in the same slot, until a new show swaps out an old one, or the schedule shifts, etc. Those are my thoughts.
And you'll notice I didn't compose a theoretical Sunday lineup also. Reason for that is, I only enjoy about 4 of the shows in the ASC lineup to any extent (Futurama, Brak Show, the upcoming Family Guy was okay, and SG Coast to Coast was so-so). If I were to compose a schedule, it would be pretty biased. ^_^; But seems like all the Williams Street-produced programs could be put in any order close together.

Um... KingKoopa is another poster, he has posted quite a few words in this thread alone.
http://www.BlueGender.com
FUNimation's official Blue Gender website--might want to check it out if you wish to learn more. But the sum of it is: it's an anime about a post-apocalyptic world that is inhabited by giant "insects" called the "Blue." A guy who was put into cryogenic sleep (due to a disease he had in "our time") is reawakened and taken along on a mission to go into orbit, to a space station called "Second Earth," where reasearch is constantly being done to resolve the enigma of the mysterious "Blue." The young man reawakened, Yuji Kaido, is believed to be one of the many keys to resolve the issue of the Blue.
I hope that wasn't too spoiler-y, but I think it got the job done for a description. The series has pretty graphic violence (lots of blood everywhere) and some sexual content scattered throughout the series. Enjoy!

It's sort of like Mospeada (at least in the first half) meets Starship Troopers with bits of Gundam and VOTOMS thrown in.
