View Full Version : Why not start AS at 10 pm?

Why doesn't AS start at 10 PM anymore? Starting the block at 11 is just too late for those of us who have to wake up for early classes or go to work early. I normally catch the first hour an a half, but after that, I need to get some sleep...

You could always just record it to make sure you catch it all and then watch it earlier the next day when you have time. ::nods::

10 what time?

If you start it at 10 EST, it ends up starting at 9 Central, I believe, which would conflict with another adult lineup known as the News.

I believe they do start at 10 Pacific, which puts it at 11 Mountain time.

Mainly, starting it at 10 lets all the wittew kiddies watch, which just isn't good for business.

I have a feeling that by the end of the year it'll be pushed back up to 10, or maybe even 9 (yeah right), but it's just wishful thinking.

Futurama - That's why.

Futurama is the priority and what pulls people in. 11 o'clock is the best time to show it. They are not going to put it up against CSI Miami, NYPD Blue, Law & Order, and E.R. I also figure the target audience is made up of people that would end up watching Conan O'Brien and such anyways.

ratings reasons. on mon.-thur. there's almost always something big on at 10, while at 11 it's mostly news and reruns of old shows. i think starting the sunday block at 10 would be a good idea, though...there's nothing big on at 10 sundays (is there?)

FYI, I'm in Central time zone and the news is at 10:00, not 9:00 so... I don't think that's it...

Hey......dont forget Dragnet at 10

I have high doubts toward that. With the current ratings of Adult Swim, I have a feeling changing the time to 10 again would put a damper on the ratings. I just can't see them doing it again.

How would that lower the ratings? The earlier it is, the more people will be able to stay up to watch it. :-\

things are on at 9. lots of things. popular things. thats the ratings connection.

Say you air AS at 10pm EST, that means that AS would then air at 9pm CST. I'm not sure about MST. But for those who would catch a 9pm viewing there would be a LOT of competition from the networks. Also consider by airing at 10pm EST you now have competition with news casts besides the big dramas that air on the networks. By airing at 11pm EST you have half the news casts on (since the 10pm ones are now complete) and no big drama's or ratings grabbers on the major networks.

In other words its all about the ratings.

it should still start at 10 on sunday. but I guess then they couldn't use the "sunday monday tuesday wednesday thursday at 11" campaign for Futurama

actually, during adult swim last night i saw a commercial that had a whole bunch of clips from new a.s.c. episodes, and said sunday 10pm. anyone else see this?

If rating speak then they surely must be losing ratings on the last hour for sure. I for one don't watch the last hour anymore on Sundays and on the weeknights I only watch what's new which is the first 1 1/2 for now. I used to always stay up and watch the full AS block when it was weekends only even if it all were almost only repeats but having to do it 5 times a week just isn't worth it. http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

I'd greatly appreciate it if they started Adult Swim at least an hour earlier than they do now.

I did not see this. However, I think it is possible that AS will start at 10pm beginning in April, when new episodes of the WS shows will likely air, possibly even including new HB:AAL episodes. I also would not be very surprised if SG:C2C returned to the lineup.

News at 9? Geez, that's early. Here, every channel but one does news at 11, which will always conflict with AS, but that's why they invented newspapers/ap.org/CNN.

10pm was a great time for AS, IMO

WHat is AS competing with at 11, besides the Simpsons on Fox? Maybe 11 is a time where people can see alll of their prime time stuff and rather than watch Jay Leno or Letterman or another on-the-air-too-long late night show, CN gives us Futurerama and Home Movies, both of which are funnier than either of them could dream of being. Then we get some Action!

It's a thought. I don't know, because I haven't watched network programming besides Fox for years. In fact I don't know anything about what inspires the decisions over there. Now I'm just talking becasue I have time to kill...

why am I still typing?

I'm Central time so Swim for me (at least) does start at ten, and does compete with the news. I hate news, it depresses me. I'd take Futurama over cruddy local news any day of the week. :D

'Cause at 11 pm, AS is only compettign against the news, and who watches the news anyway these days. And about teh talk shows, bring the viewers early and give them enough entertainment that they forget to change the channel!

Who cares about the shows after 1? They're all reruns anyway. I could see Adult Swim expanding to 4 hours though and starting at 10. But, they'd need a real ratings winner to go head to head with South Park and The Shield and stuff.

Maybe they should just make it start at 10 everywhere. Granted this take some doing as far as schedule's work, but I think it would be nice. Then I could watch Futurama every night without worrying about not getting up on time in the morning. The funny shows are about all I watch AS for anyway. The only shows I would take effort to watch on AS would be Futurama, Home Movies, a few of the Sunday comedies, Inu Yasha, and (if they had it) Love Hina. Not much on monday-thrusday interests me.

That would require a separate satellite for every time zone, plus an extra for Arizona and anyplace that doesn't use daylight savings. The reason so many things are broadcast over a minimum of two time zones is because of how expensive stellites are.

Sketch

Very true, but it would be nice none the less.

I do wish Adult Swim was still on at 10... 11 is a bit too late for me. Unless I tape it, that is. But when I watch AS when it's on, I usually only watch Futurama.

Yes I agree. CN thinks that Adult Swim is for adults only. It's for teens too as well.

As much as I'd like to deny it, Adult Swim IS for adults only. Cartoon Network and its advertisers don't want teenagers. They can get that market with Toonami.

Killtacular

Actually, sponsors do not want teens at all.

They go for these following demographics on CN:

Kids 2-11
Kids 6-11
Kids 8-14
Adults 18-24
Adults 18-34
Adults 18-49

14-18 is a demographic completely ignored. Not by CN, but by the sponsors. Why? Because there is no audience. Sure, there's plenty of 14-18 year olds on the internet that watch this stuff, but not in the real world.

MTV is one of the few stations that supports Teens 11-18, and they happen to be one of the lowest-rated TV stations of all ad-supported cable networks.

I wanna move to Hawaii and live on Molokai... and I want to swim with the dolphins... and I want to date a supermodel or a playboy playmate... and be really really rich... and eat ice cream at every meal and never get fat... and have Jackie Chan, Michael Jordan, and Frylock as my personal trainers...
