The title says it all. I'm pretty bad at getting presents, especially for guys, and especially for Valentine's Day. Any suggestions?
I don't think a V-day gift needs to be particularly personalized, but if you want to know what his interests are, he's a gamer who likes wrestling, Megaman, Dream Theater, Top Gun, and cheese.

Top Gun? You could always just have a nice little evening at home watching that movie or something. Eat it and snuggle on the couch. What's his favorite food?

As a guy I'd like to think that I wouldn't expect a gift on V-Day. I just like the reaction my girl gets from receiving her gift.
I have had girls give me gifts and it was just usually something ordinary that I wanted or was going to buy myself like a videogame, a CD or a gift card at blockbuster.
I need to go shopping myslef and I have no idea what to get.

Well, the thing is, we're going to be in NYC on Valentine's day, so Top Gun and concert tickets are out of the question. We're only going to be seeing each other that weekend, and then it's back to the long-distance thing. :(

If it were for a chick I'd say a dozen white roses and chocolate covered strawberries, and maybe taking them out to dinner at their favorite place :) but....ummm well I dunno what to tell you to get a guy....most of us aren't very picky :). You prolly can't go wrong with electronic stuff, maybe a gift certificate to Best Buy or something.

Think about it. You know what he likes, so get him something that he likes. Buy tickets to a wrestling event you could go see down the line (though that probably isn't the best option); a Megaman video game or import from Japan; a basket of various types of cheeses; anything related to whatever type of games that he plays, etc.
Do something artistic, like a poem or drawing, perhaps of the place you met or somewhere that has a significant meaning to both of you. Like, for example, I gave a friend a gold quarter as a present and wrote them a letter of what they meant to me and how the quarter reflected our friendship: rare and valuable. They like mush, so they were very appreciative, but maybe he isn't the sappy type, I dunno. I'm just suggesting that it doesn't have to be something that you buy, it could be the giving of a special object or mood. Of course they work best in combination, but either or is fine, as well. After all, I imagine you're there to spend time with one another and not just exchange gifts. Don't stress over it.
Don't they have those horse carridge rides in New York ? That coudl work, too, though I suppose they'd be ludicrously expensive.

NYC eh? Go to a nice restaurant, make sure you have reservations, and go to the discount Broadway ticket booth and go to a show. You guys could also see Daredevil together and run around on 5th Avenue.

I'd recommend getting one of the sweet Megaman snap-together figures, but you probably wouldn't have it by Friday. My gf tends to get me cool clothes (generally 80s cartoon related) and DVDs, and every once in a while a toy she knows I don't have (if he likes wrestling, maybe get him an action figure of his favorite wrestler?).
Can't think of much else (my V-Day shopping wasn't a pleasant experience, let me say...)

Oh yes they are. If he was my girlfriend, I at least could get him something generic like flowers, candy, bath products, a stuffed animal, or jewelery. :P

Awww! Now it all falls into place...whose idea was it to go to NYC for Valentine's Day, NF? That's a very nice idea. :)
Anyway, I dunno what to add - all guys really want for Valentine's Day is their girl to be with them, so as long as you're there, I think he's set. If he likes cheese so much - and all Canadians do - go buy him a block of the best cheese out there that you can find. :D Cheddar, mozarella, monterey jack, feta, it doesn't matter. :)

I suggest buying him a cake with my face on it. Failing that, a mouse musical quartet singing "Fame"...
Wow, sounds nice on it's own. NYC. Valantine's Day. I love all the serious suggestions, but mine would be certainly the most memorable..

the Scotch part aint exactly legal in the states, though, Reed :p
Especially in NYC restaurants... They are kind of anal about it if they think youre not of age.

Does that mean he has to go in the cargo hold on your trip or do they allow you to store both ball, chain and boyfriend in the cabin over head compartments?

Hmmm... I had a girl ask me this same question earlier today...
I've had all day to think about it, and still can't think of a direct answer.
So far, most people's answers (no offense to anyone) are awfully expensive to just be a Valentine's gift. I mean, most guys don't usually even expect gifts on Valentine's Day. Nevermind concert tickets or imported games and such. Anything like dinner plans doesn't seem like a real great idea either. What if he already made reservations and such as a surprise?
My best suggestion would either be something like a CD or, as Digivolz said, do something artistic. A good idea that didn't even cross my mind earlier (until MSX mentioned it), would possibly be some sort of gift card.
As a guy I'd like to think that I wouldn't expect a gift on V-Day. I just like the reaction my girl gets from receiving her gift.
I feel the same way.
