View Full Version : So, where did your user name come from, hugh?
serenitymoon

Hi, Serenitymoon here. I'm fairly new to this forum, as a matter of fact, this is the first thread I've started in Cafe Toon Zone. I have a question for all you out there. What was the inspiration for your user names, and heck, your avatars while your at it. I know some of them are obvious, but I am curious about some of the names out there. So I'll start...
Serenitymoon... well I love anime. Sailor Moon was my first anime experience and it's still tied for my favorite anime of all (right up there with Escaflowne the series... and I begin to drift off topic...). So Serena's proper name as a princess is Serenity... and she's the Moon Princess..., so put them together and you get... Serenitymoon... I thought it was pretty. :)
As to my Avatar, I'm really into the new .hack//SIGN series on CN and the upcoming games on PS2. My favorite character so far is Mimiru, so there's her mug on my avatar. Anyway, I did mine, so who's next? :D

Mine used to be my intials - which was an idea that came up when I used to run the LEXX website Squawker's Guide To Lexx with my close friend (whose name abbrev. to PSM). Since then, and with a slight regeneration on the name front, you could say it stands for Sexy Jiving James, or Swanky Jumping Jim... I'll allow you to come up with your own... :)
Barb Gordon
02-09-2003, 05:16 PM
didn't we....yeah we just had this kinda of post pretty recently *shrugs* but whatever. Must have fallen beyond the fifth page or so. Since you are fairly new, as you yourself say, it's not a biggie, but in the future make sure a thread like this hasn't been done recently. Certain threads, like this, and how old are you, where do you live, do you have pets, are very common. Anyhoo
My name is pretty self explanatory, at least to those that know even a smidge about comics and cartoons. Barbara Gordon is Batgirl, and in the comics now the computer whiz known as Oracle. She's beautiful, smart, funny and very courageous. She's also about the best female character in comics I can think of. I've had the name for quite some time, since junior high or so. Started with being called Oracle when the World's Finest was starting out, and went by Barb Gordon when I came here. The majority of my avatars have been of Barbara and/or Dick Grayson being that Nightwing is my all time favorite character.

My nick actually stemmed from a failed attempt at a Star Wars fan fic book that I worked on in High School (before the Yuuzhan Vong story arch).
The character was a clone of Emperor Palpatine who, after the war with the Rebellion, became a bounty hunter, horded a large fortune and used it to reunited whatever remaining parts of the Empire as well as produce a new fleet (he eventually learned after a diplomatic visit to Coruscant, that he was a clone of Palpatine, which drove him mad).
I never got the chance to finish it, but I kept the name and used it for just about everything. I figured it matched my personality.
The 00 part came into play when I found that a lot of people
were using the same Nick in different places :p
There avatar is from a cartoon/animation character I drew for a senior project in college

TimTwoFace
02-09-2003, 05:27 PM
My name is a fusion of two names (of course) that originated back in 1995. I dressed up as the BATMAN FOREVER version of Two-Face for Halloween that year - and, ironically, that was the day it hit video stores, too. :D Anyway, everyone loved my costume (even though I didn't have the time to make the tiger-striped pants), and I won the Gr. 11 costume contest that year. After that, the name "Two-Face" stuck; I already liked the character a lot from the animated series, so I decided to keep it around. I never really had a nickname that stuck before.
The following year, my senior year, I was part of the school paper, and everything I wrote was under the pen name "Tim Two-Face L." Someone the year before had a funky pen name, and I liked the idea, so I wanted to do the same. It stuck again.
Ever since the advent of the internet into my life (early 1997 was when we were finally hooked up in my house), I've used that as my moniker on websites, e-mail addresses, forums, my newsletter, and at Toonzone. I lopped off the "L" because it looked silly, but kept the rest.
Oh yeah, BTW, my real name is Tim, if you didn't figure it out already. ;)
-Tim
Chris Sanders MSX
02-09-2003, 05:32 PM
It's my real name plus my internet nickname I aquired. However I'm considering putting in a plea to get the MSX dropped because
I aquired it during a time when I was being immature and stupid. In fact what MSX stands for is immature and stupid but it's kind of catchy so I even put ChrisMSX on my cell phone tag.
ZorBrak
02-09-2003, 05:33 PM
Mine is also a fusion of two names. The Space Ghost C2C characters, Zorak, and Brak...so um you get ZorBrak. Yup. Oh, and my real name is not hugh, nor did I get my screen name from him lol :D (sorry I had to pick fun at your typo :p).
Drachentöter

Nothing interesting about mine. Stemmed from original works of fiction concerning a character I called The VortexKnight. I'd recently started using it all over the web, so I decided to give it a go as my TZ alias.
Calico
02-09-2003, 05:41 PM
Calico is an obvious reference to a cat (though I've since learned it's also a quilting term and some sort of firearm). I happen to have one. I love all animals, but I especially love cats and wanted a moniker that reflected that and was unique, so I settled on Calico. It's been my 'Net nickname for about 7 years now, and it was even my license plate number until I recently bought a new car and couldn't get it transfered.

when i registered on this board, my favorite show was Aqua Teen Hunger Force, hence DrWeird, their arch enemy on the south jersey shore.
if i were to make a name now, i probably would do something Home Movies related. but whatever.

Cool! I used to have loads of Star Wars Characters from my RPG days. My favourite was a retired Impreial Captain who would go on bounty hunter missions and constantly sell every one else out - even if there was no money involved. Wish I could remember his name..!
In fact I wrote what must be close to two books worth around a RPG story of Star Wars. I still have it in a massive folder upstairs and it tells the tale of another group of characters which dove tail in and out of the canon. Great fun.

Don't you hate that? I never use names which have to be altered with numbers! Against my ethics! :)

Catlover
02-09-2003, 06:58 PM
Well I love cats so thats where I get my name. As for my avitar, I try to keep cat themed ones on such as my ryoky(sp) one I have right now,or my gunsmith cats one I use to have, but I might put a anime themed one up every once and a while.
Magentabeams
02-09-2003, 07:04 PM
I listen to Savage Garden alot. And my favorite song was "I Want You" AKA The Chica Cherry Cola Song. Well, in that song one of the lyrics mentions "Magenta feelings" for some reason i like that. But, Magenta Feelings would be too long of a user name so, I sat in the thinking chair and thought... and thought... and thought... and BAM! Some how I came up with Magentabeams.

The Saiya-jin part is self explanitory. Ro is the name of a Saiya-jin I thought of for a Dragonball series I started to think of awhile ago. Called Dragonball DF.

I was reading a Japanese book thingy a couple years ago, found the word "Watagashi" and thought it sounded cool. :D And, uh... yeah. :p
DisneyBoy
02-09-2003, 08:43 PM
:) Welcome to the boards! Try not to become addicted...I dare ya! :D
So, to answer your question, DisneyBoy was a nickname I picked up in High School (along with most of my other nicknames, none of which I asked for mind you!). I've always been completely enraptured with all things Disney, that is, until now...as the company is quickly going down the creative tubes :( . My avatar (which is of Ally McBeal) usually confuses folks, so let's just say that between Ally and Disney, you have a good idea of my personality!
I hope you enjoy your time here, and if you ever want to PM someone, I'm always happy to correspond (although my box is almost always full!)
:)
Weatherman
02-09-2003, 09:23 PM
At the time, I was going to be a Meteorologist aka a Weatherman. I decided to keep it from the old board so people would recognize me. I just thought it was a cool name. :)

A quick analysis on where "SpikeJet143" came from...
Spike = Spike Spiegel from "Cowboy Bebop"
Jet = Jet Black from "Cowboy Bebop"
143 = The number of letters in each word of the phrase "I love you" (They're my favorite anime characters ^^;; ) :harley:
Jade_GL
02-09-2003, 09:35 PM
Mine was purely thought up in the spur of the moment really, but it's a name I use darn near everywhere I go now. Jade is a DC comics character, and you can see a picture of her in my avatar all the time. GL is short for Green Lantern, which Jade used to be. I also added GL because it mixes it up a bit and also pays homage to all other Green Lanterns in DC comics, so I love it. :D
That's all I got. :D
Mitsuko
02-09-2003, 09:37 PM
My username actually came from a book called Little Sister and it's sequel The Heavenward Path by Kara Dalkey. My friend was reading them and suggested I try them so I did. I couldn't put either of them down! Mitsuko is the main character and she is definitely one of my favorites! I decided it would be neat to have her name as my username, so that's what I did!

http://atlas.imagemagician.com/images/bleuunicorn/wave.gif Hi, serenitymoon! Welcome to the boards! http://atlas.imagemagician.com/images/bleuunicorn/hug.gif
Anyhoo as for my nick, it's not really what you'd think. Granted I like unicorns and the color blue quite a bit - though neither are my favorite things in their respective genres. Rather, I have a uniquely spelled real name (or so I'm told :)) and I wanted to translate that onto my 'net nick. Unicorn itself comes from a family nickname I have - uni (pronounced "uh-knee").
It's definitely stuck, though - I'm Bleu on and off the 'net now. :D
Disco Pete
02-09-2003, 09:46 PM
During the summer I volunteer as a cook for a Drum Corps, and the people there have nicknamed me "Disco Pete" (it actually has nothing to do with disco music). I first used the name when I joined a drum corps forum, and since then I go by Disco Pete everywhere on the internet.
My Avatar: I change it every so often. Until recently I had Shippou (from InuYasha). He's the coolest character on that show who does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Right now I got Goku (not from DBZ, but from the far superior Dragonball) riding his Kinto'un (Nimbus Cloud). Every boy wants one!
Parallax
02-09-2003, 09:47 PM
I think my name is self-explanitory. But if you have never seen Dragonball Z then listen! Gogeta is a fusion of Goku and Vegeta, then ssj is Super Saiya-jin and the 4 is the super saiya-jin level. My old name was ssgogetalevel5, but it seemed too long so I shortened it.
And my avatar is the almighty Utra Peppi! My avatars are kinda random so who's knows what the next one will be! Actually I do know what it is but I'm not telling. Ultra Peppi is also my name at a few other forums.;)
randomguy
02-09-2003, 10:07 PM
I remember trying really hard to come up with something really clever (something vaguely defining personality and not related to any character or series or anything), and I eventually thought of randomguy. I was like, "Eh, it'll work."

When I was younger, people would pick on me just because they could, so I'd do very mean things to get back at them. In fact, you could say my behavior towards them was devilish. Diablo is devil in Spanish, and Des just adds a feminine twist.
Lucky Bob
02-10-2003, 12:16 AM
I am the master of Lucky Bob impersonation. Lucky Bob was a chubby kid with an I.Q. of a fence in Histeria. I can imitate him right down to the overbite! (Even after braces!)

02-10-2003, 01:26 AM
It's my maiden name.
Seafaring
02-10-2003, 02:12 AM
The name Seafaring came from the song Seafaring by Hefner. Its my favorite song, and one day I would love to be "Seafaring," plus I feel a bit adrift. Its much much better than my previous name. My avatar is of Kamidake, because I love him so much, in log form and in human form, although I must say I prefer him in his human form.

My name (Deina) is a name I that I made up myself (not quite sure if it really exists in the real world or not) just so it will be different. I wanted a name that no one else had, and Deina is what I came up with. Deina doesn't come from anywhere in particular. I just wanted to be unique, is all. :D :p

If you know who Catwoman is, you'll recognize my name, though it's spelled with two E's instead of Selina.
It's kind of my own now, though when I first created it, it had been an exhausted typo. *SHRUGS* Oh well, I like it this way. :)
If anyone else asks, I'll just say that I like Catwoman AND the singer. (Actually, that's true, but not accurate for this) :D

JohnCrichton
02-10-2003, 11:29 AM
Long, long ago............ on a message board far, far away....
In the CNX's beginnings I was lurking and saw someone talk smack about Power Rangers or something.
At this time I was obsessing over my new favorite show, Farscape and just loved the opening. "My name's John Crichton.... an astronaut!"
So that up there in quotes was my full handle.
When Jeff changed to EZBoards, I had to shorten it. Because I didn't know you could put a space between names I went with JohnCrichton.
People find "Crichton" hard to spell quickly so soon I became referred to as.... "JC".
Nothing very exciting in my origin, basically I chose Rune because (1) I read / study runes and (2) its just a vowel out from my middle name. Now I tend to use it as a nick most places online.

My user name = my name. why? because I'm lazy ;) also, I figure since my website, www.karlrolson.com, even has my middle initial in there, any hope of anomity on the internet was a lost cause anyway.

02-10-2003, 11:54 PM
My user name is from... 32585 is my birthdate March, 28, 1985 and j stands for John. Also I phrase it to sound like a Borg drone name, for which I'm a big fan of Star Trek.

Well, all the good ones were taken :p , so I went with the title to one of my favorite Bat-stories.

every one sort of knows where my name came from! you probably don't want to admit to it but everyone knows!
Lion King!
Don't get it do you! Well you know in the beginning when Simba goes to the hyena hideout (elephant graveyard) Then when Mufsa comes and saves simba, the hyenas say "Tootles".
I just changes the S to a Z so that it would look cooler!

Oh. Being someone who loved adventure tales as a kid, I would've guessed that you got "Tootles" from Peter Pan.
The Detective
02-11-2003, 01:45 PM
Well it's kind of sefl explanatory but I'll explain anyway. The Dark Knight is Batman's nickname. And Batman is my all time favourite character ever. so what better nickname that that of my favourite character? And I was pretty sure that The Dark Knight was used so I just cut out the space and you get The DarkKnight.
Ordinary Guy

I was watching Darkwing Duck one day and it happened to the episode were they introduced the villian Ordinary Guy. I t was also the same day I joined Toonzone.

I took my name from one of the enemys in the Zelda series. As for my avatar, I thought it looked like me. It's actually a minor character from the manga Hikaru no Go, named Tsubaki.
Mine, which no one seems to have figured out yet, is based on the name of Tim Drakes CAR before he sold it to Robin. Everyone just seems to assume its based on Robin. Amateurs.

My first avatar was Wolfwood since he is my favorit Trigun personality. I recently changed it to Kaworu for Eva caus he is too cool (and most of the eva avitars are rei or asuka)and i haven't seen another avitar with him. (if another person has him im sorry)

Nickname I gave myself that kinda caught on.... with me atleast :D
Moonbay
02-12-2003, 08:52 PM
Like I've said in the avatar rating thread, Moonbay was the name of the street I lived on when I was little. I always thought it was pretty, and I'd call myself Princess Moonbay when toturing my siblings with the good 'ole royal kingdom game. ^_____^
Also, I saw there was a character named Moonbay on the anime series Zoids: CC/GF. I thought she was cool, and alot like the Princess Moonbay I use to think I was.... so I was influenced by both! Strange, I know.....!! ^_^
Amano Ginji
02-12-2003, 09:54 PM
My name is a fusion of Tidus (one of the main characters in Final Fantasy X) and Daniel (my first name obviously)
I can't say where I got the number 54.
Although my username here is the same as my username on www.gamefaqs.com , which I made a long time ago.
My avatar is a close up of Rikku (one of the three main characters in FFX-2)
Evil Dr. Reef
02-12-2003, 11:02 PM
"Evil Dr. Reef" was a fictional villain from the "Flipmode" episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, although I stole it from a friend of mine (vets may remember him as The Polisher).

Tempus
02-13-2003, 07:25 AM
Nice idea for a thread. My username comes from a caracter of my creation named Tempus... he is time master and has to protect the real time line from possible variations that are created when someone tries to alter time. He has a group called the Cronoman who help him with this mission.

The Guitar Slayer
02-14-2003, 05:50 PM
My name was a spur of the moment type of thing. I was registering for TZ and trying to think up a good name that I wouldn't regret later (the number thingy would have driven me nuts). Anyway, I was listening to the Who's Great Hits during registration and Townshend went into a solo. For all you folk who aren't familiar with him (other than the recent scandal), Townshend (as well as Hendrix) was infamous for smashing guitars on stage, and one time he whacked Abbie Hoffman over the head with his guitar when the guy interrupted the Who's set at Woodstock. Basically, he destroyed, killed, and slayed his guitars. Definitive adjective+Guitar+Slayer=me.
