Ahh, it's that time of year again (at least, it is in Michigan) for the annual S&E Fest. For the uneducated, it's basically a day that all the band geeks in a reigon of the state come together and get rated on their Solo/Ensemble Musicianship. Based on how well you do (on a scale from 1 to 5, 1 being the best) you get medals, and the chance to go onto the state level festival. A one gets you a Blue medal, and a trip to States, and a 2 gets you a Red medal and a pat on the back. Anything less than that is basically a "good try, come back next year" and a good way to depress yourself for a day or two. Anyway, do you guys and gals have anything like this 'round your area? And for the people who do, how's your record? Since 7th grade, I've gotten 11 Red medals and 3 Blues.

I never went to solo/ensemble, just festival. We got a 1 in 7th grade, 2 in 8th (never got that red medal, though).
I got into chorus for high school, and the last time we went to festival (now called MPA) was my first year. We got a 1 or 2, but no medals. We plan on going again (finally) this year.

New York's got their own solo festival. They rate you out of 28 for levels I - IV and out of 100 for levels V and VI, and score high enough on a level VI solo and you go to all-state. I'm doing a level IV this year.

Yes, I've done this last year. It was for singing and I think I did a level III. It was my first time, so I was really nervous. I ended up getting a 26/28, which wasn't too bad!
