How're you people staying up to watch all of Adult Swim? Do you tape it or just take the bullet the next morning?

I tape the new stuff and watch it the next day while I excercise.

I have to wake up for school at 5:30 every morning, so I always tape everything.

I live in the Central time zone, so it ends at 1 AM, which is still pretty late, but I'm only staying up through Bebop long enough to get the whole series on tape, about 4 weeks I can handle. I also have a job with a very lenient policy on coming in late.

Until yesterday i had to stay up. I was fed up, so i hooked up a VCR to my computer. NOW I CAN SLEEP :D WOO HOO!

I have been watching it the last three nights, but that is soon to change.... because I about fell asleep in my 8:00am college class this morning, not good. :( But it will be better to tape it, then you have the magic ability to bypass all the commercials and get to the meat of the matter, so to speak.

I got 2 alarm clocks, one is an add-on feature on Winamp, and yes it does work and work loud, and it is programed to go off 5 minutes before Iun-Yasha gets on and all.

I stay up for it, since everything I watch Adult Swim for ends at 1am (I don't bother with that last hour). Besides, in college time, going to bed at 1am is early...

However, I do have the VCR set, just in case I have a lot of homework to do or something else that would prevent me from watching it "live." I haven't seen Inu-Yasha for the past two nights because of homework, and after I type this I plan to catch up.

I tape it. If I try to stay up, I can't get up the next morning, and that's no good for me.

Stay up the whole way. I have college ussualy. But I can handle the 5-6 hour nap. I record AS everyday anyway. So just incase I fall asleep..

Sometimes I have to try really hard to stay awake through an entire show if I've been up late for the past few nights (Wednesday and Thursday nights are going to be the hardest), but if you're starting to fall asleep just get up and run in place for a minute or so, or just whatever you can think of to help you stay awake. Or just turn on your VCR and go to sleep. :D

I usually stay up until 12:00 or 1:00, usually alternating between the two every couple days so that I can still get some sleep and be able to stay up for more of Adult Swim. After a few weeks, I'll get used to it like I got used to not getting much sleep on Sundays.

I tape Adult Swim every time it's on, because I often re-watch shows the next day, or miss them when they first air. I currently have a 23-tape Adult Swim Archive collection. This year I'm conserving tapes by only recording new episodes, though.

Where I live Adult Swim doesn't come on until midnight, and I have to be up at 8 am for class, so it's VCR all the way for me. Which I don't mind at all, except that I then have to wade through four pages of opinions on the talkback threads before I get to post my own, since I don't read the talkback threads until after I've watched my tape (usually after class the next day, around two or three in the afternoon).

I have to get up at 6:30 every morning for school so I tape or else I'd be dead in class. I have a tape for AS weekdays and a tape for AS sundays. I have a timer set to record every day from 11-2 and every sunday from 11-2. It's a nice to wind-down with AS when I get home from school.

I only wished my vcr worked.... but it's been broken for the past 3 years and I really don't know why I haven't gotten a new one. I guess I have to try running in place :D

Well, it's easy for me to stay up for Futurama, Home Movies, Lupin III, and Inuyasha since I've gotten used to staying up that late thanks to G.I. Joe on Toonami. But around Yu Yu Hakusho it becomes harder for me to stay up and all week I've kept falling asleep in the middle of watching Cowboy Bebop. Don't usually have to get up early in the morning, so that's also a big plus.

yes, i too have to go to bed earlier than home movies. i'm building a home movies and lupin video library anyway, so that just means i get to watch quality tv in the afternoon instead of the dead zone that comes on during that time.

im a student and my classes don't begin til either 10 or 11 AM. Depends on the day. With work on Friday morning. So I can go to bed at 2 AM and it's not a problem. But since 1 AM is the rerun hour I can still turn in early. That or nap during the day.

I just take an hour rest from 10 to 11 then I watch until 1. I'm not missing anything new this way, and I gain 2 more hours of sleep. Besides, 6 hours of sleep is all I need to be able to function the next day.

I've got no problems with watching the whole block and getting up the next morning. But, then again, my sleep schedule has been seriously messed up for years now, so maybe I'm not a good example. :(

Jeffrey, remember that I'm an 'old' (36) guy. So I've got a 'real' job (in IT for a big-4 accounting firm) and I make an OK amount of money. So, I was able to afford a TiVo (and my son has one two but that's another story) to record all the TV I want while I work, sleep, eat or live the rest of my life :)

I'm not rich in any real world sense, though

Shh!! Don't tell Kellner! :p

Anyway, I tape it. I've ALWAYS taped AS. I think the latest I've ever stayed up watching either Adult Swim was until 12...

Taping it on weekdays is a bit harder to get used to than Saturdays, but it works. As long as I get to see Lupin and Inu-Yasha, it's all good.

I stay up to watch the first two hours, seeing as the last hour is only reruns. Two things work in my favor:

- I live in a timezone where everything is shown an hour early. Instead of 11:00, the block starts at 10:00.

- My morning classes only start as early as 11:00 or 10:00 in the morning, so I can afford to stay up quite late.

JTurner954

Two words: Alarm clock.

I watch the shows as they come on and then I turn the TV off at 1 a.m. since I have already seen YYH and Cowboy Bebop.

I was thinking of recording AS tonight and watching it tomorrow, but then I realized I'll have a lot of e-mail notifications in the morning so I declined sleep for a while (and I'm glad I did because all the shows tonight were excellent).

Since I'm still in college right now and all the work I got is just part time, I'm able to watch my way through everything though I keep taping Lupin and IY for archive purposes.
I was lucky to get classes on 10 AM and later than that.

Maybe you have to do it like me if you have 2 alarm clocks, set it get to bed a little early, sleep for 3 hours then when the alarm rings at 11PM turn it off and watch untill eaither midnight, or 1 AM, depending if you want to continue watching, then set the first alarm clock and continue your sleep there, of coruse there are other ways of doing it but that is how it is with me and all.

I usually watch Futurama at 11:00 before falling asleep to Home Movies and taping InuYasha and Lupin III on nights that I have hockey practice the next morning. However, if I don't have hockey, I can pretty easily get through school just fine after staying up until 1:30 to watch Lupin III, InuYasha, and Yu Yu Hakusho. (A good luxury of being homeschooled).

Even on the nights I stay up I still tape Lupin III and InuYasha, though.

Your Lucky, and all, I still have school and I need to get my dosing my Inu-Yasha so I have to have this odd sleeping pattern.

One Word > Two Words

The word: Caffeine

Anyway, it is possible to survive on 4-5 hours of sleep a night.

JTurner954
01-17-2003, 03:07 PM
Believe it or not, I don't use caffeine. The best way to get through the day is breakfast. Oh, and not eating while watching AS also helps.

Breakfast is the best way to wake up in the morning but you MIGHT need to eat something else if you want to stay up 20 hours a day.

It's called lunch. Pretty much having 3 meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) gets me thorugh the day. I personally would rather drink tea than coffee (not a fan of coffee). Still ,I rarely drink tea.

Plus, it's a mind thing. If the shows were all entertaining (like last night), then there is no way I would get tired. I admit that there have been episodes where I would start yawning because I didn't like the episode.

Since it was ASW's premiere week, I felt it was important to just stay up and watch it "live" and just deal with it the next day. But I've actually been doing fine on 5-6 hours sleep. Yeah I feel crummy when I get up at 6:30, but by 7:00 I'm good.

Still gonna start taping it next week, though.

hyprlynx
01-17-2003, 07:22 PM
I've seen it live all week but I went out and bought 5 vhs tapes for taping purposes on nights where I can't stay up to watch. I only watch up to IY since Yu Yu and Bebop are in rerun.

Ikwig
01-17-2003, 10:37 PM
I am taping it and watching it when I can (it's Friday night and I'm still not quite caught up - why, you may ask, am I not watching it right now? And the answer is that I have even less time to play online than I do to watch tv, so I'm taking it while I can get it! :p )

I have to get up between 5:30 and 6:00 because the house where I live is currently having a lot of exterior work done and the workmen arrive, on the scaffolding right outside the bathroom window, between 6:30 and 7:00 every morning (so I've got to be up and ready for the day before that ;) ). Moreover, the work which they are doing (taking off stucco and removing old mortar) requires a generator and very noisy power tools, so no naps for me! :D (They work on Saturdays too, so they'll be here bright and early tomorrow - what the heck am I doing not in bed?!! :p )

So, um, yeah. . . I tape it.

VCR has so recently crapped out. Not good.

Since I've already seen all of Yu Yu and Bebop, I only stay up until Inu Yasha ends. I then get up a 6AM, which isn't too bad. Fell asleep in history the other day, but we were taking the midterm, and I was done, so things were fine. I always have tea with breakfast anyway, so that's a nice little boost. Still, I'll be glad when I get some vacation and can stay up for Yu Yu and Bebop, just for the nostalgia.

Sleep is overrated. Except on weekends.

for all those folks who can't stay up for AS, but don't have a VCR, here are some really inexpensive VCRs (about 50 bucks):

I live in GA so it comes on at 11 every night, but here's somthing i'm curious about, does states like California have adult swim start at 8pm?Since they're 3 hours behind GA time,I was just wondering if thats how it worked,or if people in that timezone have a normal CN like people in the EST.

The West Coast gets a different feed than the East Coast now, atleast on Cable (Dish still gets East Coast), so it runs at 11pm here too. For a long while, (up until about 4-5 years ago), the West got feed the same as East, so it was getting 11pm shows at 8pm.

VCR has to be one of the best things ever invented since that is the only way for me to watch adult swim. and since I am a very busy person throughout the week in addition to go to a school that gives out a ton of homework and projects frequency, I cannot afford to go without sleep or else I'll drive all my friends away. So I tape Futurama up to IY and watch all 8hours of that on the weekends :p

I used to take the bullet. I would stay up until 2:00am to watch and finish Inu Yasha (I live in the Mountain Time Zone) giving me just 4 hours to sleep, because I get up at 6:00am. After trying to stay up to watch it live, it became to hard to stay up and I fell asleep waiting for IY to come on. On top of that, I missed recording it. And after being very tired at school everyday, I decided to use my VCR timer so I could watch it later. Like I said the new schedule is really hard for people who have to get up early. I think that Adult Swim's ratings will suffer eventually.
