View Full Version : If Lupin the 3rd's second series does well, do you think we'll see the first series?

It's probably a long shot. The animation is even older than this series, but hey, it's only 23 episodes, as opposed to the current series consisting of a whopping 155 altoghther. The first series features some of Lupin's most famous enemies, including the magician Pycal and the Scorpion organization seen in the first episode of the currently airing series. Not only that, but it's some of Miyazaki's (and other members of Studio Ghibli's) oldest work.

Well, I guess we'll know when the ratings reports come in next month. Here's hoping. Maybe after that they can start showing more Adult Swim films, and we can finally watch Castle of Cagliostro and the TV specials.

A bit of a long shot, I know, but I'm hoping.

I'd expect them to air the third series.

I hope you are right. Sure the first series is older, but I don't think there's a big difference in animation quality, and it has some great stories. It would be great to see the movies on TV, but they might need more editingthan the series. Cagilostro isn't really Adult Swim material (being a Disney-like kids version of Lupin), but the other films (the good ones that is) would be great to see.

If this one does well, I imagine Pioneer will pick up the first series, and CN may follow suit. I don't really see the third series being picked up, though. From what I've seen, the art is actually a step back from the first series, and the show takes on a real "cartoony" (for lack of a better word) style. Try to track down a copy of the movie "Rupan III: The Legend of the Gold of Babylon" to see the style of the 3rd series.

Well, I don't know about the first series, but Castle of Cogliostro is currently available on VHS (we even have it for rent at the Hastings I work at, now that I've seen the series I'll have to give it a rent) and it's rumored to be coming to DVD sometime this year.

Its been out opn DVD for a long time.

I have to disagree with calling it "Disneyfied." I personally LOVE that movie, and I think any Lupin fan would feel the same. Sure, it may not be as risque as the rest of the series, but it more than makes up for that.

Yes, although I've not seen it either, the 3rd series apparently is much goofier and lightweight than the 2nd series (which itself is lighter than the 1st). The art design is pretty tacky, and Lupin drives a mini-car and wears a PINK jacket! Doesn't look too promising.
