I decided to make this thread so we don't have to sort through 5 review threads to find posts about this topic. What does everyone think of the new look and especially the new bumpers?
I myself think the ASC bumpers are great. There finally a connection between the shows and the term "Adult Swim" and most of you almost got your wish of seeing McGuirk give CPR. However, I loathe the ASA bumpers. My main point is I don't think they should try to put in comedy bits during the action parts and I prefer the old bumpers myself that actually showed clips from the shows (even though heavily distorted). The only one that I actually liked was the Random Samurai -vs- Mech. *squish* :D

i like em'. :D they're quick, funny and to the point (whereas the betty, betty thing took 42 seconds). i thought the sealab one was especially "adult swim". though i dont watch ASA, it doesn't seem to make sense to me to keep the same kind of bumper for an action/anime block.

the betty owned joo you silly noob geeze no im just kidding the old ones are hella better
I don't watch ASC very often, so I don't know what they look like, but I HATE the ASA bumpers. I hate the colors, I hate the style, I just hate everything about the bumpers themselves. They are trying to be funny, which
1.they don't accomplish
2.isn't on the right part of the block
The ONLY ASA show the bumpers fit are Lupin, and that's because Lupin has so much comedy in it.
I'll take "darker version of Toonami" over this any day.

It's only on for about 5 seconds, it won't kill you to just sit through it.

We know, a lot of us just don't think it's as great as the old set (for both blocks).

After analyzing the ASA "intro", a thought came to me: did Cartoon Network first coin the term Adult Swim Action, or did we?
Anyone else think the Bumper with the woman blowing in Master Shakes straw looks like some OTHER kind of "Activity" ? ....YOU know what i mean. (It even SOUNDS like that)

As I posted on another thread, I love the look of both ASC and ASA. ASC has hilarious bumpers, and ASA has a very neat, sleek retro look to it... however, while ASA's first bumper that displays the line-up is great, the second doesn't follow the retro look at all, but rather the ASC look. Thus, I feel they're out of place - either everything on ASA should also have the ninja/comedy bumpers, or everything on ASA should have the retro look...
And it's always fun to see which clips they picked for the bumpers on each show - something I always loved about Toonami - so, yeah, I do think they should replace the second bumper with clips from the show...
Since it's apparent CN wants to keep ASC and ASA seperate for the most part, using clips with the ASA retro look rather than ASC style bumpers will also help bring more coherence to ASA.
Still, I've said it before and I'll say it again,
I am so glad to be done with the incredibly inconsistent, cheap look of the old AS!!!

ASC: I like. Very funky, very witty. The new tune isn't as "memorable" as Tito, but it works. I do like how it's integrated with the various shows, something I've always liked with past CN bumpers (the "Powerhouse" set being the best example)
ASA: Inconsistent. Buimpers follow the ASC look, but promos and intros have that sweet retroesque look. I don't like how this creates an inconsistency, not only within ASA itself, but in the whole of AS (ASC's bumpers have show logos, say the show's name, and feature the characters... ASA features generic logos, a generic samurai, and the announcer guy only says "Adult Swim!" I'd dump the ASCesque bumpers and go for the retro look for ASA, but that's just me.

I liked the old ones, but I got very sick of them. There just wasn't enough variety to keep using those anymore. How many times can you hear "Betty Betty Betty skull 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 skull 2 3 4 5 6 7 8" before going insane? Anyway, I really don't care about the bumpers much to begin with, but it's nice to have a change, and the new ones seem fine to me.

First people want ASA to be merged with ASC and given the same look. Now they want it to be different? Make up your mind, people.

The new look is pretty cool, but I agree with you Masamune that the comedy part during commerical breaks isn't really what I hope for.

Kind of like how Toonami had an intro for everyday of the week back in it's Golden Days.

First people want ASA to be merged with ASC and given the same look. Now they want it to be different? Make up your mind, people. Either use the "safety signs" theme for both ASC and ASA, or use it only in ASC while keeping the sleek retro look for ASA - but don't make ASA be part retro, then throw the "safety signs" theme for one of the bumpers - it's just not consistent...

They don't use the retro part for bumpers. Only the intro, commercial, and schedule. The bumpers are all safety signs.

I like the ASC look, very funny and brief. The ASA is tolerable, but not really too great. I'm not complaining though. Although I'm glad they didn't use ASC's theme with ASA. I mean, can you imagine seeing Inu Yasha giving the Heimlich manoeuvre to someone?? No, at least it's somewhat enjoyable, even if it could have been better.

I, personally, NEVER wanted that. I loved the previous look, no matter how "thrown together" it looked.
The new bumpers are cool, and the ASA ones are okay. Just glad that they're nice, short, and don't have old people swimming.

The schedule is a kind of bumper to me since it airs right before the first commercial - there is no ninja bumper. And what I mean by inconsistency is, as you pointed out, they use the retro look for everything but the one bumper of the show. All the promos and bumpers in ASC use the "safety signs" look - so why shouldn't ASA use the retro look for the final bumper in additon to the schedule bumper and promos?

I may be the wierd one here, but I kinda like the bumpers <ducks>
It's kinda odd that we have the mix of the ASC look and the retro look (like they couldn't make up their mind) but at least we don't got Miroku giving Fujiko CPR (although I'm sure he'd enjoy that!).
Besides, I'm waiting for WS to make a Random Samauri show! :p

I think that would be hilarious for Miroku to give CPR to Fujiko, or better yet, Sango *HINT HINT WINK WINK*

IIRC, CN called it Adult Swim Action in press releases, but not in the bumpers, intros and promos, where every thing was just Adult Swim. Most of the fans picked up on the lingo in the press releases. Now, CN seems to be using it's own terminology in the ads and such too. Whether this has anything to do with the fans use is anyones guess.
Also, I like the visual styles for both blocks, but I wish they'd nix the Toonami music in the ASA openings. Pay some shmoe who releases electronic music on the net (preferably me ;)) to do some music that'll be unique to the ASA openings.

My mind has been made up for awhile now and hasn't changed since. I would like them both to have the SAME look... and I would also like to see shows from both mixed in together. I want to see Adult Swim Comedy and Adult Swim Action die... and become just "Adult Swim". I truly believe it should be Futurama, then Lupin, then Home Movies. I don't know why we have to seperate them. Just put whatever's new and most anticipated first. Makes sense to me.

I all out hate these new bumpers... the old ones were not great but they were better than this. The characters seem so out of place and some even look out of style (Sea Lab especially) and the colors are always strange (I know they're supposed to be that way, but they just don't look right.) If anything they should have had faceless characters doing CPR or just characters from the shows. Mixing them just makes everything feel out of place and awkward to me. I do, however like the music and the echo of the lifeguard shouting 'Adult Swim.' Sounds cool with surround sound on.... other than that, I hope they change soon.

they really need to make some AS music videos.

Why doesn't WS use the original Japanese bumpers for the anime shows?! They go by very quick and fit with each show.
It would work if WS played the Japanese bumpers with the Adult Swim logo pasted somewhere, without having to stick the crappy bumpers they have on now.
Why is Cowboy Bebop the only show that keeps its original bumpers?

Nope. They aired a bunch of ASA and Lupin III promos during Zoids: Zero on Saturday night, but they weren't new promos.
