View Full Version : Titans or "Tee-Tahns"?

I meant to post this earlier, but I was too caught up in my overall disappointment w/ CCA. I didn't bother to post anything about that either (but I may eventually). It should have been a series... So rushed...
Anyways, does anyone know what is or will be the correct English pronunciation of Titans? In 0083, I believe Bosque Omu referred to them as Titans (like the mythological beings who were defeated by the Olympians). In CCA, they were called "Tee-Tahns". Being a dubbie, I assume that "Tee-Tahns" is the Japanese pronunciation so which one is going to be used?

They say Titans like it sounds in 0083 and i'm pretty sure it's the same in Zeta. Why he said Tee-tans I dont know

I'm pretty sure that in Japan it was Titans. Mainly because Ocean has never been very good with pronounciation. So in Z Gundam I'd count on "Tee-tahns".

It can go either way. The Japanese pronounce it "Tee-Tahns", but remember, they pronounce Mr. Satan from DBZ as "Mistaa Sahtan."

The UC stuff being dubbed now (MS Gundam, CCA, and now the under-production Zeta) follow the orders of Sunrise, so like it or not, if its in there, its not an Ocean mistake, but because Sunrise ordered it. There were no such orders for the earlier Animaze dubs, which is why Jaburo was pronounced 'Jabrow' and GMs (pronounced as 'Jims' in MS Gundam) were pronounced 'Gee-Ems'. Since Char pronounced it as 'Teetans', we'll probably hear it that way in Zeta.

I've seen it spelled in katakana; it IS supposed to be pronounced "tee-tans."
Kind of a shame. I do think "Titans" sounds so much better.

It's "Tee-tahns" in the Japanese version, and that's probably how it will be pronounced in the dub of Zeta Gundam.
However they said "Titans" rather plainly in 0083, so it depends on if Ocean or Animaze will be dubbing it Zeta. My money's on Ocean.

Personally I'd rather they pronounce it like it would sound in English (starting sound TIE). No matter how they do pronounce it some group will be unhappy. I remember someone at AXNY asking Tomino a question and the questioner was sure to pronounce it as TEE-tahns.

Its supposed to be pronounced Titans since Tomino did base it off of the mythical creatures the Greek Gods defeated.
Why people refuse to correct bad pronunctuations is beyond me.
Tee-tans sound retarded.

It's a Japanese 'version' (or corruption. depends on how you look at it) of Titans. Why they would want it translated back into English wrong...who knows.
After all, they still push for the city name of New Yark, when it was a typo from the very beginning...

Yes, this makes the most sense. Ocean will probably dub Zeta Gundam since some of the White Base crew is part of the AEUG. That means "Tee-Tahns"... Hopefully they'll realize how bad it sounds in English after hearing it a few times.
