Before I start, I just want to warn you guys that alot of this is just semi-organized rambling, opinions and such. I'm just basically pouring my thoughts into the computer. That's the way I wanted this thread to seem like because I'm want you guys to basically peek inside the head of a high school senior
As a high school senior, one of the things I have the pleasure of thinking about is the Senior Prom. This one night is like the big hoorah before everyone leaves to go on their seperate ways in life. Personally, I really don't want to go to this thing, but I'm forcing myself to go. It only happens once in your whole entire life time and its probably the only time you'll see your fellow classmates all dressed up and whatnot, whether that's important to you or not.
There are so many things to think about, in terms of the prom. I'll start with finding a prom date...probably the hardest thing about the prom...or at least for me. I basically want a date that I'll be happy to take to the prom. She's fun to be with and she doesn't mind the fact that I can't dance. Off the top of my head, there are a few girls like that....
-There is this quiet girl in my foreign language class that is cute and has a nice personality. I wouldn't mind having her as my date because she is a fun person to be with...which is apparent in some discussions we have. Heh, the problem is that she doesn't want to go to the prom (and believe me, I've tried to change her mind)
-Then there is my love interest, a girl that doesn't actually go to my school, but I know her from other places. Not only is this girl cute, but she is very interesting and fun. But the things is with her is that we don't talk or even see each other nearly as much. It would be too awkward to ask her out, even on a date to the movies. Heh, but that doesn't stop me from trying though...
-Then there is the girl that actually asked me out herself, but I disagreed at first. This girl treats me like crap most of the time....like I'm so not important to anyone in the school. But in some rare occasions, she has been nice to me. After awhile of thinking about it, I decided I'll go out with her anyway, because I don't think she'll be a "problem" at the prom. Heh, but I think I'm too late now (she has other interests)
That's basically what I have to think about in terms of dates and such. Now let's get on to "what to wear". I must confess that I hate dressing up. If there is any reason to hate the prom besides dancing, is because I have to dress up formally for it. I have no idea what I'm going to wear. And then on top of that, when I find a date, we have to plan what we are going to wear together so we "match. Then there's the part that involves the money. It costs a helluva lot of money to buy formal attire and such. Then there's the option of renting the formal attire, but then I won't have a keepsake of the prom for sentimental value.
On top of all I mentioned above, I have to figure out transportation. The prom is suppose to be a magical night for you and your date....full of wonder, amazement and joy....and the very thing you get to the prom in shouldn't fall below these expectations (plus people will talk about you if you come in a broken down cab ;) ). The obvious choice would be a limo...but should I really spend that much money on one thing I'm going to use for one night. In my opinion, a limo should be rented when you are going to the prom as a group of friends, not just for two people. In that case, a rental car should suffice. But how much should I spend on a rental. Should I get a Mercedes or a Lincoln? Or maybe I should call a cab......its only one night....right?
All of the above could happen, but most would be wishful thinking. The reality of it all is that I'm poor. To get the best, it would take at least 5 - 6 months of saving up money....and I haven't even started. Overtime at my job isn't even an option since my job has already specifically stated that they are not doing overtime for several months. I have to think about my price range and stuff.
To the people reading this post: Its been a mindful just reading what my thoughts are huh? Well, that's only half the battle for me. I'm still worried about the actual event. Will me and my date, whoever she may be, really have fun there? Will she ask me to dance, and if she does, what will I do (since I can't dance at all)? What will we be able to do at the prom? What will everyone's impression of me (and my date) be? What are we going to do after the prom? In regard to the last question, who will be throwing an after party and who's should I attend? Should we skip any parties and just spend the evening together watching a movie or just hanging out? Ooooooh and I really hope I get my love interest to be my date because if everything goes well, will we be an "official" couple? Hell, whoever the date may be, will we eventually be a couple? And probably the big question of the night is....*cough*....will there be....umm...some action? Now I'm definitely not revolving the whole night around this (I know some guys who are however), and I will guarantee I won't be thinking about this at all during the night....but its a possibility though.
Well, that's a peek into my head in regards to the senior prom. I've asked some people who experienced their prom already, how did it go. One girl said that she had a miserable time at the prom. Her date picked her up VERY late. Her date didn't know the way to the prom's location, so they eventually got lost. They arrived at the prom late and by that time, most people were gone. And her date was a horrible dancer and she said he was very embarrasing to be with. I definitely don't want to have a date like that. But most of the other people I talked to were indifferent or happy about their prom. I got reassured that dancing isn't all that important, and its all about socializing anyway.
Soooo, what are your thoughts on the senior prom? If you went to a prom already, how did it go? If you are about to go to the prom, what are you planning? Inquiring minds would like to know... :)
