We all know that Adult Swim is moving to weeknights this January right? Right. Well, I was thinking--how are they going to show any movies acquired for the block when this new schedule comes into effect?

In a few weeks, we'll be getting the broadcast premiere of "Char's Counterattack" on Adult Swim Saturday. That makes sense--Saturday is usually a night for one to premiere movies and such. It's a "special" enough day to warrant a disruption of the schedule to air a movie.

However, with Adult Swim moving to weekdays, we're presented with a problem. We already know that CN is interested in getting the Cowboy Bebop movie whenever that finishes its run in theatres/released on DVD, but when would they air it? Would they air it on Sunday and deprive us of a week of Williams Street shows? Or would they just randomly air it on one of the weekday spots? Wouldn't anyone else feel weird if they premiered a movie on a Wednesday or something? Besides that, they wouldn't start until 11pm, meaning that any movie they air wouldn't be finished at least until 1am. How many of you would stay up until past 1am on a Tuesday night? Or a Wednesday?

While I'm all for the move to a weekday schedule, this little conflict actually helps the people arguing for the weekend schedule. Toonami used to premiere its movies on Fridays, and Adult Swim could premiere their movies on Saturdays. Now that Adult Swim can do neither, they're forced to pick a less "special" day.

Which day do you think they'll premiere new movies on?

I myself think they will do it Friday night like *but not imitating* Toonami. Saturday would be better, but I don't think they will put that much effort into Saturday night's airtime.

Friday would seem to be the best availiable choice...though for the Beepob movie? hell yeah I'd stay up till 1!

They can't do it on Friday.

Bebop won't even air on TV until at least 2004, so WS isn't even gonna worry about it.

They'll probably just throw it in a random weekday block.

wow. i started a hot thread :D

but more on topic, id think theyd just throw it in on a weekday. not like its going to matter in "Knocking on Heaven's Door" 's case, since we're all going to have rented the dvd by then(i know I will. )

RENTED? Blasphemy! It will occupy a permanent spot in my DVD collection LONG before CN gets their hands on it. (-:

But anyways, I think that a Friday or Saturday movie showing would cause more problems than it solved, since then it would preempt Cartoon Cartoons or Toonami shows without giving the target demographic for those shows something that they're supposed to (heh) want to watch.

I think a weekday showing would be fine, as long as its only reruns that get preempted. It shouldn't be hard to find one day out of the week with nothing but reruns that can be bumped without angering anyone too too much.

As for not wanting to stay up until one on a weeknight... well, unfortunately, that's going to be par for the course next year. It won't be any more of a problem for Adult Swim movies than it will be for Adult Swim as a whole.
