Well 2002 was a good year but what do you think next year will be like. Here's what we know:

Adult Swim 5 nights a week

Futurama begins airing on AS

New episodes of Yu-Yu-Hakusho and Inu-Yasha

The aqcusitions of anime series Lupin the 3rd, Trigun, Reign, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and Big O 2.

Premeire of Chars Counterattack
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I think will happen is

New episodes of most of the shows: CN did say they will be renewing more episodes of most of the shows (except for Mission Hill and The Oblongs). I think the shows that will be renewed are

Space Ghost
Home Movies
Brak Show
Harvey Birdman
Sealab 2021
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Baby Blues
The Ripping Friends

3 new original series: We never saw any new series this year, and I think CN will greenlight that Aquaman and Friends Hour show. Maybe Matt Groening will have an original series, and maybe a show based off one of the pilots (Too bad Welcome to Eltingville won't be one).

The Aqcusitions of The PJs and Family Guy: I know The PJs are way off, but Adult Swim is going to have alot of competion with TNN's block and Comedy Central's Block. Besides they're not going to be new episodes of shows every time Adult Swim comes on. Another reason if they can aqcuire The Ripping Friends they can aqcuire these 2 shows.

Maybe my ideas are way off, but I won't to know what do you think.

Hey, wasn't Matt trying to make a series based on his pre-Simpsons creation, "Life is Hell" (or something like that--it had some crazy looking rabbit in it). Whatever happened to that?

I highly, exceedingly, extremely doubt these.

Once FOX releases the FG DVDs, the show will be dead to them.

Space Ghost - I think they've official made that decision.
Home Movies - Figuring how they've given it a very nice time slot, I'd say Season 4 will take place in the summer, after the show has had a full run after Futurama twice.
TBS, HB, Sealab, ATHF - Yes.
Baby Blues - Hmm. Was this show ever all that popular? I never liked it, personally.
The Ripping Friends - I don't know. The view on this board is generally that it is a bad show, and whenever I see an Adult Swim discussion somewhere else, the feeling is usually the same. I heard they already ordered new ones, but I don't know if that would be the best decision.

As for the PJs and Family Guy, I don't think they'll pick either of them up. The PJs humor is not very Adult Swimish, and Family Guy is going on DVD.

During recording of the final 1-hour Space Ghost Says Goodbye special, 3 naked men run through the studio, halting production with their "soy bomb."

Cartoon Network contracts for 10 new episodes of The Oblongs. Sadly, CN never airs these episode and instead sells them to help bolster low ratings of a TNN cartoon block.

"Happy Time" Harry comes back to the headquarters of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force and uses the Aqua Teens as his double-XL value meal.

Isn't the animation block on Comedy Central just a limited thing? I would hardly say they are competing (or will be for long, anyway) with Adult Swim. And not to mention that was their animated slot well before Adult Swim came along. Adult Swim was trying to compete with them, not the other way around. Adult Swim may be more popular now, but they started out playing in Comedy Central's back yard, so to speak.

And as far as TNN being competition.....I dont' see it happening. I hate to be pessimistic, I like what TNN has coming up, but I don't give their line up a very long life expectantcy.

GITS TV is delayed till '04. YYH does not recieve a third order of new episodes. Inu Yusha keeps on truckin'. Lupin finds its niche. Trigun is as successful as Bebop. Big O 2 is the best thing since sliced bread. Everyone is officially sick of Gundam.

Home Movies loses popularity but is still loved by many. Futurama is the new spotlight show. Ripping Friends, Baby Blues, Oblongs, and Mission Hill are all left behind as ASC moves forwards. All of the Williams Street shows, and a perhaps a couple of new ones, stay on. Some big and secret accquistion or new development is currently being worked on.

This is all wishful thinking, really.

Among the things I would like to see for Adult Swim in 2003:

-More new episodes of the William Street programs (including a series finale of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast)
-Aquaman and Friends Hour
-"Made-for-CN" episodes of Futurama (as I highly doubt Fox will renew it for next season)
-Some more anime (Anyone else up for some Hellsing, even though the show's only thirteen episodes long?)

Or perhaps X. Or Rurouni Kenshin. Or...dare I say it...Black Heaven. Really great show, and it would fit on Adult Swim, since the whole save the world from aliens storyline is really just a background to the real story about adulthood, love, losing, and gaining.

Oh, and I agree. More Futurama would be nice. I always seemed to miss it when it was on Fox. Sigh.

SGC2C is cancelled, after a proper finale.

Sealab and the rest of the WS shows undergo little change.

Oblongs is not re-aired.

Ripping Friends is cancelled after a few months.

Eltingville is made into a second special, which is worse than the first. Show dies.

Futurama is a big hit, and the CN even consideres new eps.

Z Gundam airs, and Gundam fans watch religiously. So does James Cameron. Then he gets an idea....

Yu Yu is renewed, but viewership drops slightly.

Inu Yasha dies a horrible death in ratings.

Trigun airs, and is also a sucess.

2004 has Brak and Carl reuniting for New Year's. This time they have to trick Meatwad to being dropped.

Futurama -- remains strong but eventually dies off after at least 1 ordering of new episodes (so that would be a long way a way though).

Teh ASC shows liek Brak and such remain funny and continue to grow and be loved.

Cowboy Bebop officially leaves the line up and is replaced with Trigun. Trigun is huge success.

Inu Yasha becomes a staple of Cartoon Network programing. CN considers the hugely popular (But in my opinion not so good) show Ranma 1/2 in a way to show that Adult Swim is now even more for Adults Only.

YYH remains on the block and continues to get new episodes but is not a spot light show.

Some other decent, but most likely pathetic, american shows are made that cant compete with the good american shows that are already on, like Home Movies.

Cartoon Network looks to gain further Japanese Anime shows coming from the Huge Bandai, Viz, Pioneer, and Tokyopop libraries. Most especially Z Gundam. Other gundams are also presented to Toonami

What's With All The "Ramma Is For Adults" Comments? Sure, There Is Quite A Bit Of Fan Service, But Apart From That It Isn't Really South Park. More Like Yu Yu Season 2.

Because people assume that fan service= adult.

Williams Street disagrees. They think that a talking cup is adult. And they'll prove it next year!

MY thoughts:

* Space Ghost will have one or two more new episodes of the program, and one will hopefully be a goodbye if they plan to axe it!
* Brak, Sealab, ATHF, and Birdman continue to go strong, with new episodes made here and there.
* Yu Yu gets another season, unsure about third order.
* Ripping Friends airs new episodes, but ratings stink, so no more new orders and the show is eventually permanently off the block.
* Despite Oblongs being number one rated show in October, ratings drop and CN sees that it isn't as great of show on Adult Swim and the ratings were just luck.
*The Rumored Baby Blues Season 2 does not get aired. Possible return of season 1, but episodes fail to interest audience and is never aired again and eventually sold elsewhere.
* Home Movies Season 4
*Inu Yasha is successful, Lupin is fairly successful, Reign doesn't do too well, and Trigun is a hit!
* Cowboy Bebop continues airing but when Trigun arrives, it is eventually replaced by double Trigun or something.
* Big O 2 is a hit.
* Futurama gets good ratings and CN considers new episodes.
* Possible acquisition of Family Guy and maybe a Canadian animated comedy (can't think of any at the top of my head).
* Anime gets picked up, and GitS gets played next year.
* Possible announcement of an American made Action show for As.

Eltingville has already been declared legally dead. Also, there's no way they are going to drop all ASA shows and run with just ASC.

Well I'll go with you on Eltingville because I wanted that to become a series and have Adult Swim pick it up, but unfortuantely they killed it.

Man...I hope Space Ghost isn't cancelled. Its a great show, and SHOULD not be cancelled...leave Space Ghost! And make it half an hour(Even though alot of the older the episodes run over 15 minutes)

Coolman, do you go to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Message boards(www.athf.com)?

I do...they're awesome, I'm Hurricane_Helms. :moon2:

Oh yeah, I forgot to add one very important prediction.

In exchange for total control of programming standards from the BS&P, Williams Street releases "The Fanservice Manifesto". Quite simply, it says that Adult Swim will NEVER show a pure fanservice show. Fans of Ranma 1/2 (both of them) migrate to TNN.

randomguy
12-15-2002, 07:38 PM
The Fanservice Manifesto sounds like a good idea. I never liked fanservice geared shows anyway.

Anyhow, I forgot one. Cowboy Bebop leaves the block to be replaced by Trigun but gets one hell of a sendoff- an airing of The Movie, not uncut, but close, and in anamorphic widescreen, like Char's. Could there be any better way to commemorate a fabulous series?

Quick Question...

If WS did release a "Fanservice Manifesto", that would ban all fanservice shows (Read- Ranma 1/2 and Dirty Pair) in exchange for total editing control of their shows, would you support it, or not?

Absolutely. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I guess. Showtime Beyond has Dirty Pair anyway.
