First of all we need all the cons that're upcoming and if they're worth going to or not.
Only one I know of is the Chicago Con and that's in like... February or March. Missed it last year, but plan to make it this year.
What cons do you guys know of that you're planning to go to and/or can make it to?
And which are worth going to? Is the Chicago one at all big?
And I'm currently planning a trip in the future out to L.A.... are there any out there I should aim for?
After we get all the info we need, then we can start a poll to see which is the most feasible for a ToonZone Con Gathering.
Peace!

There's a good list of anime cons here:
http://www.adequate.com/anime/events/
Personally, I'm attending Big Apple Anime Fest over Labor Day weekend and AnimeNext in November 2003. Don't have much spare cash to pay for travel to any of the other fests/cons.
There are also other non-anime or mixed media cons out there but I don't have a list of those handy

It's been forever since I've been to New York... I just might go to this one.
As for the one I know I'll be going to.. Anime Central in May.
Anyone ever been to this one?

I could attend those in the NY area, as well as those in the GTA (for all who dont know, the Greater Toronto Area :p). But with my schedule, I might need some lead time.

I'm going to be going to Tekkoshocon at the end of March. Why? It's near my house. My brother and our friends are making do cosplay for the event (I loathe all things costume-y), so it'll be fun to see what happens.

only con's I go to so far are Star Trek ones that are in the Iowa area since I am too poor to travel.

I'll probably head back to the Chicago area for the next WizardWorld Chicago Con. I'm also thinking of hitting the WizardWorld East con in PA. I'm definitely hitting BotCon this year, and I'd like to hit the Gargoyle's convention in New York, and maybe one of the Farscape conventions.

I'm hoping to make it to ComicCon in July 2003.
As for cons in LA, there's Anime Expo in Long Beach.

I go and have gone to the Anime Expo here in Anaheim, California. As well as the San Diego Comic Con here in San Diego, California. I know of a few TZ'ers that have attented the latter, or at least plan to.

There are no anime cons in my state, and I can't afford to buy a plane ticket or take the long drive to one that does :( Sigh... there is the comic con in Novi, but darnit!

There's also a bunch to add here in the D.C. area.
Coming up in February is Katsucon. Third weekend of the moth in Crytal City Virginia, right across the river from D.C. Fun medium sized Con known for its Cosplay.
Then there's the big one, Otakon, in August up in Baltimore. The Con for anyone here on the East Coast.
Other then those, there are a couple of smaller cons throughout the year; Anime Mid-Atlantic, Anime USA, Nekko Con..
If anyone here wants to get together at an East Coast Con, Otakon would be the one to do it AT.

Well, if you really want more for the list, check out this link (http://www.comicbookconventions.com/conventions.htm). And that's just for comic conventions!

You all MUST GO to Fanime Con on June 20-22, 2003 in Santa Clara, CA (40 miles south of San Francisco)!
3 full days of non-stop anime, art, and music without the scarey overwhelmingness of Anime Expo!
And we make sure our music videos work before we try to show them!

The biggest one that I'm aware of (and the nearest to me) is the San Diego Comic-Con, that Barb and Twilight have already mentioned. I'm hoping to go down there this July.
I recall another convention named "Wondercon" a few years back and I think it was held in Oakland, CA. Can anyone verify this, and tell me if it still exists?

AnimeExpo isn't that bad. It's mostly a huge vendor fair so bring $$$, and then they show episodes and movies in the convention center and some hotels. This year's encompassed 3 hotel lobbies including the LB Conv Center. There's a gaming room with tourneys, art galleries, and other indie arties who sell their stuff. They'll also do drawings of you for free if you provide paper. Otherwise it's something like 5$. Besides, you see a larger percentage of people dressed up as characters than at Comic-con (although be prepared for men dressed as Sailor Senshi). I might go again in 2003.
I am for sure hitting up SD Comic-con again though. They give out more free stuff although I had no idea the SD Conv Center was SO HUGE. My feet were dying by the end of the day. But it was worth it. Cool stuff to see and more opportunities to meet the animators, something that's strictly regulated at AnimeExpo due to sheer volume of people who would overwhelm those poor folks holding the drawing pens.

-Tim Yes, Wondercon (originally known as "The Wonderful World of Comics Convention") still exists. It was taken over by Comic-Con International in 2002 (the orginaztion behind San Diego Comic-Con and Alternative Press Expo). Information on all three can be found at the same website: http://www.wondercon.com/
Wondercon 2003 will be on April 25-27, 2003 at Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA.
