Well, since the Internet (as we currently know it, re: ubiquitous usage/the Web) didn't exist when I was a kid, I'll stick with TV... and while my parents of course did urge me and my siblings to go play outside, they didn't "bug the (bleep) out of me", as you put it.

What this has to do with animation...aaaaahhhh.... (strains to think of something) IMO, it doesn't. Thus, expect this to be moved to "Cafe TZ" shortly...

LOL! I love this line.

I never had this problem. My parents realized that if they wanted me to go out, they had to become involved and worse still they'd have to be a chauffeur. Nobody's parents wanted to cart around a bunch of teenagers, so for the most part, we didn't do anything until we got our own licenses and cars. After that, we went out every day to malls, parks, each others houses, or just to see how many miles we could go before someone had to go home. At that point I hardly watched tv at all.

So if your parents give you crap, tell them to get you a car.

I can't say much since I usually watch TV and play on the Internet with my kids :)

It's the other way around for me. For the most part, I would watch stuff with my parents. One of the major things IZ spend my time watching is sports, and everyone in my family does that, so I'm not such a freak. In college it's harder because it annoys my boyfriend when I watch sports I don't even care about, just because it's something. :D

Anyway, I would ask how much time to you spend doing those activities? I mean, they may just be trying to tell you "Everything in moderation." Then again, they may just bother you at any time even when you don't do these things often. I have no idea because I am unsure of the situation and how much time you do spend on the computer and watching TV.

However, I can't comment on that because I watch a lot of TV and spend a lot of time on my computer. I'm just curious is all. :)

Hate to tell you this, but putting the sentence "this is animation related" in a thread doesn't make it animation related.

(-:

To Cafe Toonzone with you!

Good topic, though. My Dad always used to get on my case about how much TV I watched and how much video games I played back when I was living at home. Now that I'm a little older and wiser, I can see his point... but anyways, my solution would be to invite a friend or two over and we'd all watch TV or play video games together. That way he'd stop complaining, because at least I was socializing. (-:
Of course, my Dad was always on my case to play sports in high school, too. I STILL don't understand what his deal was with that-- some people just aren't athletically minded, that's all. And then when I DID join a Tae Kwan Do gym just to placate him, he'd complain about how much it cost! *sigh*

My parents think I'm so out of control with the internet and television that they've imposed restrictions:

-1 hour of video-watching per week only.
-Freedom to watch any shows I please, only if the rest of the house agrees (this one majorly bothers me, since the only two things I watch are Smallville and BOP, and they refuse to guarentee me those two hours and nothing else)

In the past, they tried to keep an internet schedule up (7:00-8:00,11:30-12:00 and 9:30-11:00) but no one really wanted to stick to it, and despite all my efforts to please them, they'd get darn angry if I stayed on until 11:05 instead of getting off at exactly 11  The whole tv and internet thing has become such a hastle - which I'm beginning to think is their strategy: Drive him nuts about something, and eventually he'll abandon it.

Like someone else said, if my parents said that, they whould be hipicrits. My parents are always on the comp and watching TV. The only time they have a problem with my internet useage is when I'm on past 12AM on a school night. :p

Trasportation is another reason why I don't get out much. I don't like bugging mine or anyone elses parents for rides. I still go to the mall and some school functons though. Plus I have after school anime club and I'm working on the schools lit and art magazine. So I get out enough. I like spending time to my self. I also have a hard time getting all my friends together to actually do things.

My parents bother me about many things, but this is not one of them. They let me watch as many cartoons or use the internet as long as I want. My father makes offers to go places when I do not want to, but it is easy for me to turn them down.

Whatever floats your boat, man.

I can understand where parents are coming from because my brother doesn't do anything except play video games and watch tv and go on the internet. He has nothing spectacular to show college admission. Good looks, but nothing special on the inside. He's wasting his life away - he doesn't even get decent grades.

If you're not spending the majority of your time on the internet and tv, then I say you have nothing to worry about. Parents are just doing their job, they worry about your future and what you'll turn out to be, even though you will turn out just fine. Even now, as a college junior with a guaranteed job when I graduate, my parents worry about my future and how I'll handle myself. It's something parents do.

Hehe. When I was a kid my parents knew they could punish me by taking away my TV and videos  Back then, there was no internet, and I rarely played on the computer. Then again, they knew taking away my books would kill me, too.

The odd thing for me is that, as I've gotten older, I'm finding that I watch less and less TV. There are staples (just one more hit of Batman . . . c'mon, just one more) that are necessary but, if there's nothing good on, I won't watch TV just for the heck of it anymore. Gives me a headache. The same kinda goes for the internet (which is why TZ is such a bad thing for me cuz it's always new and interesting). Otherwise, I use the Net to check email, AIM a little, keep up with my finances and . . . oh yeah, here.

My parents hated my TV watching habits when I was younger though. Dunno how they got me to stop . . . They're magical and powerful like that. :D

I dunno I just suddenly stopped watching TV altogether with the exception of stuff on CN, one day I just came to relaize that everything else sucks now.

You know, I actually don't watch tv that much except for Batman, Justice League, and related cartoons. My Mom has to tell me to get off the internet some, but I do spend a little to much time on it. :D

That would not work in my house. I hate my sibling's favorite shows, and both of my parents like different things. Compromising is difficult for everyone in the family except maybe one parent, and would therefore lead to arguing. The result would have been no television.

I have my own TV and computer in my room so my parents don't really care how much time I spend on them.

That was how it was when I was at home, for the most part. I had my own TV in my room. Of course, the computer was downstairs, but I was the only one who really used. Now that I am out of the house, my parents use the internet a lot more. It's nice to see them doing online banking, makes me proud. :D

Besides, everything I'm into, sports mainly, my parents will watch with me. They don't like cartoons, except for Spongebob, but I just went upstairs or in the other room for that stuff. My parents never really cared, because I did a lot of stuff outside of school, and I used to have anime parties at my house, or go to them at my friends house, so they saw me socializing I guess.

My parents used to complain that I watch too much T.V. By jr. high, I just didn't like T.V. that much and I watched very little of it.
