I was just wondering what the scariest food that your school has ever attempted to feed you was. This came about because yesterday my high school had spageti and meatballs. The only problem was that the meatballs bounced. They were exactly like bouncy balls. It was really disturbing.

They serve Clam Strips at college, but I would say the most disturbing thing I ever saw was this pasta dish that looked like it had virtually everything in it. It was so gross looking. It looked like some of the stuff wasn't even edible.

I have no idea what was in it, and I didn't try to find out. :)

I have only eaten elementary school food (it was ok) but as life progressed into middle school and then high school I refused to eat school food. I have witnessed the findings of both hair and roaches in school food of others in High School. The food at South Meck is REALLY REALLY GROSS...I can say this and I haven't ever even eaten any :-p.

Heh. We had the opposite problem at my school. They were limp and almost raw sometimes. Not even close to the level of cooking I enjoy them at. :p

I heard from my brother recently that some schools have stopped selling hotdogs because parents and even teachers have decided that they are basically junk food. Makes sense, I guess. I can't see any schools selling "high quality" hot dogs, so whatever they served would have pretty much no nutritional value. And some kids would get that every single day, so... :(

Chicken-Fish Strips with Bread
Little plastic plates with three tiny, yucky, balls of bread, and some nasty chicken-fish strips (which has soy in it). They take the liberty of putting some mild nasty taco sause on the "meat" strips.

I have no stories, due to not eating any school lunches for the last many years, and even then only about twice monthly. Also, I get sickened when other people at my school complain about the food, as if they were expecting the best thing they ever tasted.

Occasionally, we get served these soft tacos which have a couple of problems. First off, the actual ratio of taco shell to meat is outrageous and second, the meat looks like it came from a nuclear waste dump site or something.

I've even heard someone say that he saw a drop of grease fall from the french fry container as the lunch lady was carrying it over to the line. What I don't get is, why can they serve that if they can only serve "healthy items" and lock the vending machines full of pop during school hours?

When I was in grade school the most feared food was the pizza. I swear to this day it looked like a sponge that mopped up pizza toppings. I have no idea how people ate it.

Thankfully my high school had decent french fries, an a la carte line, and vending machines, so i managed to get through almost all of high school barely touching the disgusting things they made.

That's what my high school was like. We would have a hot lunch, but tons of a la acarte stuff to munch on. Ah, the chicken nuggets were a life saver. :)

In elementary school the food was pretty darn good! I loved it! But after that I stopped buying cafeteria food, period. Not even in high school, and not now in college.

When I was in HS....

The Mexican Pizza. A tortilla shell, now hard as a rock, covered with the cheapest ground beef in history, some cheese, a nasty looking sauce....and letuce. Blech. Never ate it, ever. The hamburgers were amazingly nasty aswell. Tasted like soy, and they were steamed.

The chicken, french ries and steak-and-cheese sandwiches were actually pretty good, seeing as it was all over baked. My school didn't have deep fryers. :D

When I was in elementry school they used to have this UNBELIEVEABLY good pizza, always nice and fresh and just tasted great. Then they switched to some type of pizza that was always cold, greasy and had very very little or NO SAUCE. It was basically just crust with cheese & pepperoni toppings.

I remember people saying the cafeteria food was nasty all the time, but I enjoyed it. Really, there was never anything wrong with it. It was always hot and fresh (at least during the first lunch period, which I was always lucky enough to have), there was variety (a special of the day along with the everyday meals), and reasonably priced. I don't know why people always wanted to pretend that they didn't like the food or would that they were not hungry (I've seen this from 1st through 12th grades), like it was "cool" not to enjoy school food. "Hey, if you're hungry, you're hungry" I always said.

Gah. The only good thing I can say about my college's dining services is that the food's better than highschool. Not that that's saying much. :p blech.

Ever feel that it's just SAFER to pick the vegetarian entrees, even if you eat meat?

I don't eat at school. I'll make myself a sandwich or go to a restaraunt. Stories like these have freaked me out for life.

I don't know about all of these horror stories but I'd love to find a place that sold the school pizza

The only food that I'm afraid of is the taco salad. No, it's not yummy and gooey and cheesy like Taco Bell, its....um...unidentifiable....and might have whiskers in it....but everything else is pretty much ok. Except for Little Ceasar's Pizza on Fridays.

I stopped eating school lunch. My family is poor so we have no food in the house, so my only good meal is the school lunch.....and yet, I skip lunch. The food is just unbearably gross. Here are the regular features.

-Chicken Nuggets. They are always black and VERY chewy. I'm not talking about the melt in your mouth chewy, I'm talking about the hurt your teeth, real tough skin, chewy.

-Chicken Pieces (usually a thigh). These are VERY small and they are very hard. I spent over 15 minutes in the past just knawing (sp?) through the skin just to eat it. They only give us one despite the size, and they expect to satisfy us.

-Mashed Potato mound. These are my favorite ones. They are always cold and they have exactly no taste to them. Wait, correction....the lunch ladies know that they taste bad, so they put less than a drop of butter on top of the mound to give them litterally "a little flavor".

-Processed Ham....burger. The bread on these things are very stale. The actual meat obviously doesn't come from a cow...its processed from something. It tastes like.....ugh, I don't know what it tastes like to be truthful.

-Macaroni and Chesse. I REALLY HATE THIS. I haven't ate this since Elementary school, so I forgot how they taste....but they literally look like throw up. And its all burnt on the sides....yuck.

-Pizza (Cardboard box version)- I love this actually. Its the best thing to come out of the cafeteria. It doesn't nearly compare to a real pizza, but its close enough.

-Pizza (French bread version)- I hate this. Its crust is VERY, VERY hard and VERY, VERY stale..

-Pizza (Pepperoni version)- This pizza pops up once in a few years (literally! The last time I saw one was a few years ago, and before that, in 6th grade!), so when it appears, It's really a hot commodity. Its the most liked food around, and it doesn't taste half as bad.

-Hot Dog. You know what? Why does the school's hot dog taste different from every other hot dog in the world. I just noticed this a few seconds ago. The taste of a school's hot dog is its own, and nobody elses. I find that weird and scary.

-Cold Cuts (Ham & Cheese, Tuna, Chicken Salad, etc) They're nasty, plain and simple. I don't even want to talk about them.

That's only the tip of the iceberg folks when it comes to my school's lunch, but 90% of it is nasty and that's why I have yet to eat their food this year.

The school pizza is awesome. It's just a square flat piece of crust, sauce, and cheese. You can dip it in ranch sauce for some extra zest. I like how they serve fries and pizza together how awesome.

They are probably also aware that the part with the butter will make it taste weird; they like being weird.

Eh I'm not too fond of my school's food. Once in blue moon something good will come around. The pizza's OK but I won't eat it every day like most people do.

The best thing I've had so far was a BBQ beef sandwich, the sauce was kinda thin but not bad. This year we just got a whole line where you can order your own specaltiy sandwiches (like Subway). All they have though is cold cuts, I prefer hot sandwiches. Once in a while I'll have a turky and ham sandwich though. But I useally get ala cart items like soup, but the last time I had that, I burnt my mouth. X_X

I've never eaten this but my friend was brave enough to put this in her mouth. Bunny Pasta! The pasta was multicolored (pink, peach, yellow, mint green, sky blue, and lavender) with pale white cheese that looked like melted plastic. The pasta pieces wouldn't separate! They conglomenrated together like gravel in cement.

There are still people waiting for that time.

The pizza's OK but I won't eat it every day like most people do.

Most schools don't serve pizza every day; it probably makes many students at that place happy.

School being a long time ago, can barely remember what they served...

In grade school, our family wasn't exactly overly wealthy, so I got free lunches (in later grade school, reduced-price lunches). Didn't enjoy the food that much, though...

In junior high...um...barely recall...

In high school.... think I started bringing my lunch from home at that point; only ate at school lunch when they were serving Pizza Hut pizza.

In college, ate cafeteria food while I was living in the dorms. Which beat the previous schools' meals, but not by much.

Well I wish they would do that at my school, but all of a sudden, I do not like pizzas in the early afternoon.
