View Full Version : Should Pinky and the Brain belong on AS?

I think it would be great if Pinky and the Brain were put on Adult Swim Sundays. It does appeal to adults and would work better than it did on Kids' WB. If it couldn't be put onto the actual AS block, could it work as a lead-in-show? It's certainly much more "adult" than Ripping Friends.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

NO, to put it plain and short.

I don't think it could ever be on AS unless they either totally cut it up, or made a new "Sealab" version of it.

Should it be on AS? No.
Could it be a good lead-in? Possibly.
Is it better than Ripping Friends? Yes.

Yeah! Great idea! While we're at it, let's put Tiny Toons on Adult Swim!

Pinky & the Brain is written for a much older audience than Tiny Toons is. It has jokes and parodies that would go right over most kids' heads (despite the occasional Animaniacs cameos). Still, P&B would work better as a lead-in than part of the AS block.
It may not have "offensive material" like AS shows do, but it IS written to an adult level. There is an episode that is a complete parody of Citizen Kane. How many exclusively-for-kids shows poke fun at politics?
When the show first came on back during the launch of the WB network, it was shown at prime-time hours, as a lead-in to WB's non-kids shows.

I agree with what most people have said. Pinky and the Brain does NOT belong on Adult Swim. I don't personally feel that Ripping Friends does either, but two wrongs don't make a right. Just because we have (debatably) one show that doesn't belong on AS doesn't mean we should have two.

However, it was a good show, and I think it would make a fine lead-in to AS, and for that matter it would fit in plenty of other places on the schedule as well.

So do many Cartoon Cartoons. Let's put some Cartoon Cartoons on Adult Swim!

Okay, I don't mean to sound mean and sarcastic (well, maybe a little sarcastic ;) ), but it's gonna need more than that to be on Adult Swim otherwise it fits fine as a general audience show. We don't need to change that.

AS already has Ripping Friends, I don't think it needs any more animation aimed at children, just the association would hurt AS.

No. No. No no no.

If there were seventeen hundred and twelve thousand ways of saying no, I would say all of them.

Pinky & the Brain was a good show, and certainly better than the utter turd that is The Ripping Friends, but still, the thought of THAT on Adult Swim hurts me, in a deep and hard to describe way. ;)

P&B on AS? No... P&B on CN? Yes! It's a great show that is written at an adult level. That's my personal opinion.

Here's somthing that I found funny after reading through these two quotes:

Pinky & the Brain is written for a much older audience than Tiny Toons is. It has jokes and parodies that would go right over most kids' heads

There is an episode that is a complete parody of Citizen Kane.

Yep. Heh, Tiny Toons did a Citizen Kane parody as well. Still, the show as a whole isn't written for adults as P&B is.

It would be even cooler if they aired "Pinky, Elmyra & The Brain" at some point. Not on Adult Swim -- there's just not enough room for shows that don't need to avoid kid-level censorship. In my mind, that's what Adult Swim is: a refuge. But anyway, I think this show was overlooked or something, probably because the concept scared people. I know it scared me at first; I thought they would ruin Pinky & The Brain. But then I watched it. Maybe my memory of the older P&B wasn't quite up-to-date, but I thought PE&B may have been even funnier. It didn't have too many episodes (unless I missed something), though.

Hmmm, I have to disagree with you there - I thought PE&B was dreadful (although I will admit I didn't watch a lot of it - the episodes I did see so turned me off the show that I just quit tuning in).

And I could see P&B as a lead-in show, but not a great one. If I had to choose one of those Spielburg shows as a lead-in for AS it would be Animaniacs: it certainly had adult references and some adult attitudes, plus it was super silly! (And no, none of those shows should actually be on AS, just for the record.)

Yep, your Yusuke is actually one of my favorite avatars! :) But I'm sorry to hear you didn't win the contest. :(

I can give you a link to where I found my avatar, I got it here (http://dnastyle.netfirms.com/yuyuhakusho.html), there are also many other anime avatars there too.

Not that I'm saying P&tB should be on AS, but just for the record, the show was originally a PRIME TIME cartoon, not aimed for KidsWB!

I like Pinky and the Brain, but it doesn't really fit in as an Adult Swim show. They should put it on at 9:30, just as a lead in to Adult Swim. It doesn't really matter anyway, considered Nickelodeon owns the rights to Pinky and the Brain.

First of all, Sheep is cancelled.

Second of all, they'd have to get rid of the obnoxious pun gags. Those were Mo's attempts to tickle the younger viewers, and though it's nice to have a show that appeals to all age-groups, a lot of people were turned off by the puns.

Pinky and the Brain has it's moments,
but is not AS material.
It has already made it's mark on the younger genre.

Good point. Originally the series made for WB's primetime audience, but apparently it was attracting more kids than adults so it went to WB's weekday afternoon block. Hmmmm...I wonder if UPN decided to put Home Movies on their kid's block after it took it off it's prime time block if you'd all say Home Movies shouldn't be on adult swim?

Oh, well, regardless, I was never that big of a fan of Pinky and the Brain.

When are these new Ripping Friends episodes coming? The schedule for January lists the old Fox Kids episodes playing. The show is an insult to the block. I would rather have Animaniacs on the block than RF. This is going to be bad when TNN's block premires.

I really can't understand how so many people like Pinky and the Brain. To me, it's like watching your parents get raped, it's horrible and embarrassing to watch.

I don't know about adult swim, but it really needs to be on cartoon network. That show rocks, and yes, it flys well with older audiences. :wakko:
