View Full Version : Would an MTV cartoon ever make it to AS?

I know, most of MTV's cartoons bite, but there have been a few that were of some value.
It's my understanding that this would never happen, that they keep all their shows in their own little family.
Still, I'd like to see The Maxx again.
even Downtown was alright, at least a better slacker comedy than ******* Mission Hill

I don't think CN needs anything from MTV, I think they're doing well with their own cartoons.

Gary & Mike and Dilbert were on UPN first, and Undergrads was on MTV, both Viacom networks. They are all now licensed to Comedy Central, which, afaik, is not affilliated with Viacom. Therefore, it could happen, if CN won the bidding war over a program license, and if MTV made a program available.

Comedy Central is co-owned by Viacom and AOL Time Warner.

The Maxx would fit perfectly I think, and Aeon Flux or just about anything from Liquid TV would be good, those was some great shows!
btw, anyone remember the show that came on after the Maxx on the MTV Oddities show that the Maxx aired on? It was called "the Head" I believe...

It's possible, but I could only see it happening with stuff that they would absolutely never air on Nickelodeon, since Nick and CN are in pretty direct competition most of the time. And MTV would probably make CN pay throught the nose, and since other than Beavis and Butthead (which I don't see CN wanting to pick up, it wouldn't fit in with Adult Swim which is the only place they'd ever air it for content reasons) there aren't too many big-name animated MTV shows that would bring in a lot of viewers.

Well, you have to remember that in January CN becomes an all-ages network, so then if they want to show Beavis and Butthead, it doesn't matter whether it's on Adult Swim or not, so it doesn't have to be an adult show.
Still, the chance of any MTV show ever making it to Cartoon Network is... well, let me just put it this way. You have two chances: slim and none. :p

I remember the Head. Guy had an alien that lived in his head right? Had about two seasons of shows. Maybe it would fit, but Aeon Flux would be better with new ep. However, I think Peter Chung (creator) wouldn't do anymore....

This is true, but I still don't see them putting it anywhere other than Adult Swim. I mean, what do you lead into it with? "That's it for Dragonball Z. Next up: Beavis and Butthead!" I just don't see it. Unless maybe they paired it up with Ripping Friends for an hour of crude and juvenile humor, but even that would be an uneven fit at best. (-:
(Note: I'm not insulting either Beavis and Butthead or Ripping Friends by calling them crude and juvenile humor. I personally really like crude and juvenile humor. No flames please. (-: )

Liquid Television, Aeon Flux, and Daria were the only MTV cartoons I ever watched, thus I'm not too sure about any of the other shows and their cool/suck factor. (It would be pretty sweet to see LT again, though...)

I'm suprised not too many people meantioned Daria. This was one of the few MTV cartoons that lasted for more than a season and it features a lot of "adult-ish" humor. Although, I don't think Daria would necessarily fit in AS very well. When CN becomes an all ages channel, then I'm sure it would fit in better then just showing it on AS. I know Nogin has the rights to Daria right now, which is unfortunate since they've edited the content in several episodes and dare I say, haven't aired at least a couple of episodes from Daria's liabrary.

Yes, I love Daria as well but I didn't mention it because I too just don't think it would fit in AS. What I was thinking would work for daria was if it got picked up by one of the "women's" networks. It seems like it would have gotten the most good press by going that route. Putting it on Noggin is a disservice to it.
but I digress.
Yes liquid television was wonderful. There were many bits in that AS fans would love. Remember Bobby and Billy? (I think that was the name). Rockwellian little boys participating all sorts of debased activities. Made the other B&B look like pantywaists.
Also, The Thing What Lurked in the Tub, Plymptoons and the original Aeon Flux (where she died on every outing) were some of my other favorites.
The Head had its moments, but not many.
