He isn't in the intro and though he is funny, he's usually just there to get screwed somehow.
So why do I keep seeing people complain if he wasn't in an episode or was briefly in it and that somehow saved the episode?
This isn't the Carl show.
I do like him when he's used well but I for one don't need him to be in every episode.

Man, Carl is the freakin' greatest! Everything he says is funny. If it wasn't for Carl, Master Shake and Dr. Weird I wouldn't even watch this show.

Carl is jsut the perfect foil to the complete insanity of the entire show. He's just the everyman, the loser next door, and, more or less, the ACTUAL representation of what every single middle age New Jerseyian is. Belive me, I live near where they say the show takes place (Union, NJ), and I've worked with people like Carl, I've seen people like Carl, hell, my uncle is a lot like Carl.
He's just that one little nugget on that show that says "No, you have not gone insane, this show is really happening, here's a bit of mental relaxation for you to ground yourself."
(And belive me, Return of the Mooninites is STILL the best take on the Carls around here. It's so acruate it's scary.)

"Oh yeah, straighten things out! Your face is gonna be real straight when I SHOVE IT THROUGH A PASTRAMI SLICER!!"
"Yeah, so I kinda added two and two together and decided YOU'RE PISSING ME OFF!!"
"I'm gonna wait around here another ten, fifteen minutes, then I'm getting outta here. Gonna go buy me one 'a them hot rod magazines... the kind with the girls, with tha boobs."
just afew reasons why Carl doesn't need instructions to rock.

What's your problem with Carl?

I don't think Achika is saying she dislikes Carl, just that he shouldn't be overused. And I do see the logic in that.
However, as IWDP Lim said, Carl is this show's one and only ground to reality. For that reason alone, I think he needs to appear at least once every episode.

Carl is intrinsically funny, because he never seems to question the existance of a talking cup, bag of fries, and foot-tall ball of meat that live next to him. He just wants to live his "normal" life of owning a crappy riced-up car, getting it on with headless supermodel standees, and...wait, did you READ that last part? That's why people love Carl, because he does things like that. Oh, and he swears a lot, and as we all know that's just hilarious.
Really, I see Achika's point here. Carl is funny, yes, but it's not necessary that he be in every episode. I loved "Dummer Dolls", possibly my favorite episode, and I didn't even notice he was missing. He's great when the writers can find a use for him, but if he's just there for the sake of being there then they shouldn't bother.

oh ..
I'd never really realized that Carl is the only normal person on the show. Thanks for pointing that out.
Well then, that ups his status for me.
Why is everyone obsessed with his pool though? I feel bad for him having all of those freaks taking it over.

A pool is a marvelous thing, especially when no one else in town has one.... :D
I think Carl is hilarious. He is the guy whose lines I end up quoting the most. I guess he says the things that people are thinking, like if you had a guy burns down your house while trying to cut your lawn with gasoline and a match, wouldn't you be waqnting to bust some heads? That's the importance of Carl for me.
I think he's just a really funny guy, and I enjoy everyone of his appearances. I think he became my favorite character over repeated episode watchings. :D

To sum up what basically everyone is saying, Carl is just really, really funny, and adds a lot to the show humour wise. He's one of those characters who is always remembered for the great lines he gets.

Carl is the coolest bad person I have seen in a while. Rude, unforgiving, but very funny. That's why I like him.
Later.
