So, Inu-Yasha went back to TV-PGV. I was starting to like that TV-14.

Well that answered my question of what would happen if a demon in present day sensed a jewel shard. Didn't really seem that there was much of anything to warrent a TV14 label, little bit of blood, and some stolen flesh.

The rating is on a per-episode basis.
Honestly, you people make it seem like this is some super adult show with tons of nudity & violence, and CN is keeping most of it from us...

Inu Yasha- wtf?! What was with this episode? Suddenly Kagomes brother is obsessed with Inu Yasha.. Inu Yasha is suddenly nice and they don't even explain that. The bad guy really sucked. The exchanges between the characters was awful as usual. The ending was horrid. But i guess it was one of the better episode that I could actually sit through. D-

A pretty good episode. The ending especially had an upbeat tone, without coming off as blatantly corny. I liked that.
One question.........the shard was on the no-mask's forehead.....so basically the shard was either never found in Inu's time and ended up on the mask in the present. BUT, what if the shard is found in the past? Wouldn't that totally make the events of this episode impossible?.......

Is it really that important to know the TV rating for each episode?? Whew, I'm glad I'm not anal retentive.
Inuyasha: Neat villain, some really funny moments, and the appearance from mini-Useke from YYH (well, he looks like him) make this the best episode so far. Next week looks good too. I'm liking this show more and more. Overall grade : A (for every time, Kagome said "Sit" tonight, add a plus symbol).

Hey, I'm just saying it's been a long time seeing TV-PG rating for Inu-Yasha. No need to get stuck-up about it.

Everytime I try to think about time travel and all the paradoxes it makes my head hurt. For all we now the world blows up on itself if we can travel back and forward.

If you didn't like "Inu-Yasha" before, then tonight's episode won't change your mind.
Now, the Noh-Mask episode wasn't meant to be like this. The manga makes this story arc far more enjoyable. Unfortunately, it had to be toned down to bring to TV, which is probably why this epsiode was aired out of order from the manga; they needed time to rewrite the story. Some of the changes were good, but others practically destroyed Takahashi's work. The Mask of Flesh didn't originally absorb its victims; it devoured them, and with blood and gore everywhere. And the other differences are far too numerous to mention here. This is a classic example of why the manga is better than the anime.
As for the dub, the actors did their jobs perfectly. I don't know why, but I keep having the urge to tell everyone that Monica Stori is finally Kagome. She no longer sounds like a bimbo weathergirl that some people think she sounds like; she actually sounds like a middle-school student. And the others did fine jobs, although Saffron Anderson's Sota sounded a little different than he usually does; must be the kid's hiatus between episodes. And the script...a few Trishisms here and there, but absolutely nothing to whine about. Good job, Trish. Keep it up.
Overall, not one of the better episodes, but this time it's because of the actual episode and not the English dub. And since next week's episode is a filler with no application to the overall story, I fear some people will think "Inu-Yasha" has already fallen when its best parts are to come.
B+ for great performances in an average, toned down episode.
Boring filler episode for Inu Yasha.
The story, dialogue, and battle weren't interesting at all.
And talk about a very noticeable plot hole, how was Kagome able to run and climb away the building if the Noh-mask can outrun her in a second???
The episode should have been quite interesting, what with the comedic appearance of Inu Yasha having a rocky day, the meeting of the Noh-mask and grandpa (another plot hole, why wasn't grandpa swallowed by the Noh-mask??), and of course, that Kagome is a normal person that is interested in a normal human boy instead of a half-demon.
IY grade: 2.5/5
A boring ep also for YYH, good parts are few though quite good: Kuwabara dissing Yusuke, Yusuke shooting his last shot, and Rando getting the big drop from Yusuke. Too many lucky conviniences for Yusuke in this ep, though (swamp algae!! swamp algae!! bah!! ).
YYH grade: 2.5/5

Inu Yasha: Interesting episode, but weird as we see Inu Yasha jump on top of buildings, etc. Kagome's multiple "SIT!" at the begining was funnier in the Japanese, but it still made me chuckle at the English.
Thanks, arxane. I'd like to check the manga of this episode some day, just will be awhile before I get around to getting up to that volume.
Yes, the voice acting was good, but for some reason I prefer the Japanese voices (except for Kagome's cat, LOL). I can't wait for when some of the other characters get introduced, like Miroku and Sango.
Oh, and AS finally has CAR COMMERCIALS!
MS Gundam: Interesting episode between Amuro and Ramba Ral. The story keeps getting good. The old-school mecha designs I like a lot!

I don't know what you're listening to, but it doesn't sound like you're listening to Monica Stori's Kagome. ^^; I agree that the other voices were superb (Inu Yasha just keeps getting better and better!), but Monica Stori is still using that "sing song" voice that she used at the begining. You're right that she sounds like a middle-school student; she sounds like an amateur middle school acting student trying to recite lines. I lament once again that they cast this actress. I keep waiting for her to improve, and she never does.
My review of the episode: I was very disapointed at how much was changed from the original manga story. In the manga, this was one of the early episodes where Kagome and Inu Yasha start expressing thier "like" of one another. There are just a bunch of tiny little Takahashi moments here that were erased (probably for the sake of time, but it still sucks). There were especially a lot of internal moments with Inu Yasha where Takahashi shows you that he feels a bit more deeply about Kagome then you might expect. I don't wonder that people might be surprised at IY "suddenly" becoming nice to Kagome. Since all of his internal dialoge is erased, it just seems random rather than an expression of his feelings.
Of course, there's also the problem that basically all the real creepiness is removed from the story, leaving the action scenes feeling a little bit bland. Over all, I give this episode a D-.

Inu-Yasha:
I actually thought this episode was above average! I just liked it, I don't know. It was entertaining. And if you call this episode filler, then what are all the other episodes? It doesn't seem much less important. It's a one-parter instead of a two-parter, but even the two-parters are isolated quests.
Yu Yu Hakusho:
Lots of good stuff here. Lots of funny lines, also. "Why do you keep asking me how I feel? I'm being hung upside-down from a tree, about to be devoured by monsters. How do you think I feel, you freak?"
And once again, I don't see what's wrong with Yusuke being lucky. Is there some established hero image being ruined here? I think his lucky escapes are much more interesting than if he just beat all of his enemies with his powers. As long as they're not ridiculously contrived or predictable -- which they never are.

Ahh, I just saw the Juicy Fruit commercial! The nightmares are returning............
This was the first early ep of CB(this and ballad of fallen angels) that really changed my view of CB.
I used to think CB was overly hyped based on the first eps.
But this ep and the next ep was the one that made me say "wow..." and gawk for the first time to an anime series.
This ep has everything for me, good story, very inventive villains, the return of the queen of cunning and sexy, good dialogues, very good ending, etc, etc, etc...you know that I'll never be out of good things to say about this ep, right...
5/5 for CB tonight, the only thing keeping ASA good for tonight (since I don't watch OS and gundams, i won't base ASA on them ...very biased, eh?!? :p ).

Ah, well. Can't please everyone, I guess. I suppose in my point of view, she's improved from her bland performances in the first few episodes and that's good enough for me. Maybe another VA would've been a better choice, but seeing how she actually sounds more into her character than when she started, I'm not complaining.
Which brings up an interesting question: if you could cast the VA for the voice of Kagome, who would you choose?

Hard to say. For some reason I don't have many female English voice actor's that I'm fond of. Mostly because it's the sing-songy valley girl voices that seem to ruin the anime that I like best. ^^; The only female dub voice that I really like is Wendee Lee, and she's entirely unsuited to the role (though maybe I'm underestimating her control over her voice).
And then again, Wendee Lee doesn't do work for Ocean Studios, either.

Inuyasha: "I like not the looks of it."
That's what I got when I saw Inuyasha's behavior changed just like that. Other than that, there's nothing wrong about this episode. The first half was entertaining (Inuyasha getting tortured by Kagome). The fact that Sota cannot pass through the well but demons and a Kikyo reincarnate can was......interesting.
The second half was a bit below par compared to the first half. I dunno, but having demons destroying towns, gobbling up humans, etc. kinda got me bored. Hopefully, Inuyasha's later episodes doesn't turn out that way.
Yu Yu Hakusho:
Y'know, I always wondered why I love Yu Yu Hakusho more than Dragonballz. And today's episode gave me that answer. It had Yusuke talking like a badass that he is. It had some great funny lines. Genkai's personality is portrayed really well (and some good character development from Kuwabara). The fight was decent. And that's about it. It was more of a "spirit level" fight that I love and was interested more than the "power/energy level" fight that I got bored from.
Cowboy Bebop:
I've watched this episode so many times. And I never ever got use to it. Each episode that I rewatch always got me interested. At least, interested in some of it's aspects. Anywho, this episode was alright.

Inu Yasha
Blah, I'd agree with others that this filler episode was somewhat a dissappointment, which is a surprise considering other filler episodes in this show have actually been quite good. The contradictions, the general pointlessness of the episode, etc... all contributed to this being ranked as my least favorite ep in the show so far.
Grade: C-
Mobile Suit Gundam
Episode 18: Ramba Ral's Attack
This ep's where Mobile Suit Gundam really starts taking off to become one of (if not the) best mecha shows ever. Tomino does a great job in fleshing out his characters, and here we get some nice interaction, face to face, between Ramba Ral and Amuro. Ramba Ral is shown as an honorable and respectable soldier, letting both Amuro and Fraw go when he could have taken them hostage. As the ep draws to a close we get the final climatic battle between the Gouf and Gundam, its quite noticable how much Amuro has improved in just this short amount of time, seeing as he got his ass kicked so easily the first time he faced the Gouf. And finally, we get to see that whiny brat Amuro get what he deserved, locked in the brig for stealing Gundam. Amuro's gone from scared and unconfident to whiny and tired, and now arrogant from the experience he's had in battle. Now thats what I call development, unlike other similar main characters *cough*Shinji*cough* out there...

Inu Yasha -- well this is an example that present-era demons can sense the Shikon jewel. Also we see how Kagome's granpa makes excuses for her not going to school :D And now, the part I was looking foward to the most, I finally get to see Inu Yasha's #1 enemy Hobo, err, I mean Hojo ;) Plus it's nice to see Inu Yasha and Kagome clicking at the very end. Another favorite part is Sota let's Inu Yasha know he's his hero (can't you see Inu Yasha's excitement! "Aww, damn."). Only thing I saw wrong with this episode is no Shippou, but I can't get everything I want. Oh yah, he is coming in 5 weeks, are you ready girls? :D
Yu Yu Hakusho -- well the end of the Rando arc and of the DVD opening thing. Now we can go through the Saint Beast arc and then.........well, no one knows after that. Will they cancel YYH or will the do the only thing that makes sense and buy more episodes? I think you already know the answer. Gotta love Yusuke's ultimate attack: the Super Elbow Drop!!!!!!!!
Cowboy Bebop -- I like the early episodes of CB because Spike acts more, err, human. He's not all depressed and troubled by his past and he's more loose and fun. Alos, the lovely Faye was in this episode and she played a rather 'innocent' part. Seeing Spike act 'dumb' with the virus and seeing the Swordfish in action was sweet too. Plus how can you not love an anime that has monkeys in it?
Gundam 0083 -- well Liutenent Burning gets caught with his who...I mean date and we get to see everybody drinking the infamous 'bad tea' :D ! I love this episode too because it shows Ko getting his ass kicked......constantly! Maybe if they keep going he'll die and Nina will kill herself then we can all live happily. Oh yah, one good thing about this episode: RX-78GP01-Fb Gundam Full Vernian "Zephyranthes"!
Mobile Suit Gundam -- I really need to buy the Mobile Suit Gundam 3-Movie Box Set. This was a pretty good episode, mostly because you don't come toe-to-toe with Ramba Ral like that and live. It's also times like these that I think "Man, if I were Amuro the first chance I got I would destroy
Outlaw Star -- I LOOOVE CATGIRLS AND I LOOOVE AISHA (I got the whole Dark Spider - Kiyone thing goin' on). Aisha is so kawaii and hott in her own way and I just can't get enough of her. That and she's got that great sense of humor and the air-head thing going in which is cool with me.
Commercials -- the only excess I saw were the "Eight Crazy Night's" trailers which doesn't bug me because Adam Sandler is awesome and the Star Wars Clone Wars video game pormos. I did, however, see the horid atrocity they call Juicy Fruit rear it's ugly head of torture and pain and gnashing of teeth! I really miss the trailers for Jin-Roh, Escaflowne, and Char's Counterattack. I think they should start showing the Char's Counterattack trailers at least since they will eventually air it. Maybe even Char's Counterattack promos soon.

Inu Yasha: 79%
11. The Terror of the Ancient Noh-Mask
IMO, Inuyasha is at its low point during these episodes, very little storyline progression. The only somewhat important occurance in this episode is the introduction of Hojo. But thankfully it gets out of this rut soon with 14. Even though episode 13 adds to the storyline the episode is still somewhat boring. Even though the next episode is another pointless ep, I always liked it.
Yu Yu Hakusho: 92%
13. Yusuke vs. Rando: 99 Attacks
A nice end to a cool arc. I always liked the ending to this arc because Yusuke won by luck, because at this point I don't think he'd have the skill/strength to beat Rando with spirit attacks.
Cowboy Bebop: 94%
4. Gateway Shuffle
This is the first Cowboy Bebop episode I saw. It just has a cool feel to it.
Gundam 0083: 87%
6. The Warrior of Von Braun
The first of the two character episodes, while these episodes don't add much to the overall Operation Stardust plot, it does give some character develpment. Also why was "Magic" played when Kelly and Kou were fixing the Val Varo?
Mobile Suit Gundam: 95%
18. Rambal Ral's Attack
I remember watching this episode on Toonami a while back.
Outlaw Star: 82%
5. The Cat Girl, Ready to Pounce
I never liked this one, Ayesha (or however you spell her name) is my least favorite character on the whole show.
Ugh, I noticed the Juicy Fruits are back. And the Maxim Hair color ones are really getting on my nerves. And the Best Western movies are becoming the next "Firestarter: Rekindled"
Charred Knight

The main problem with this episode was that the director is incompetent.
Due to the fact that this had to be almost completely re-written from the manga this episode shows how truly inept the first director was.
Don't worry by the time this series starts getting anime only filler the first director was replaced.

Inuyasha
Terror of the Ancient Noh Mask - Yay, back to fun episdoes that I actually realize I'm watching. Thing is though, this ep is gonna preset an odd problem, at least to me anyway. Are they gonna have to fight that tree now? I mean, yeh they get it in the future, but you figure that the mask is STILL gonna be made/has been made. More importantly though, now theres at least one extra jewel shard back in feudal Japan. Ohhh, fun conumdums. Owwww, brain hurts.... A
Yu Yu Hakusho
Yusuke vs. Rando: 99 Attacks - OK, seriously, WERE there 99 attacks in this episode? I mean, not even the stuff where they annouce the name or anything, just like, per punch thrown and all. I don't know, maybe I'll go back and check. If not, um, I won't buy tampons out of protest for false advertising! BOO!!! A
Cowboy Bebop
Gateway Shuffle - Yay! Bebop vs. Cruela De Vil! A+
Gundam 0083
Warrior of Von Braun - OK. Seriously, this and the next episode could have been COMBINED. Why? Drop the WHOLE Kelly Lasner thing. Not needed. Just have Kou wig out on the ship, let Nina worry over him, then he comes back like "RAHRHARHRH I'M A PILOT! I'M A PILOT! I WILL FLY THE GUNDAM AND I WILL NOT BE A BABY ANYMORE! NOW LET ME AT Iowwww, I stubbed my toe I want my mommy!" Well, something like that anyway. At least we wouldn't have to suffer though Magic...C
Mobile Suit Gundam
Ramba Ral's Attack - YE-ES! How much logner are we gonna be fighting Ramba Ral, cause he's kicking TOO much ass. Damn me for looking ahead :( . Well, ok, I didn't look ahead, I just looked for some info on Ramba and whathername, and, bah. Anyway, about the only thing that really would've made this episode better is if we had seen the top half of the Guntank kinda plodding along on the gun arms. That would've been cool/funny. A

I like the DBZ explanation of this. Everytime a time in fraction occurs anything done in this alternate time period only affects that time period, not the time period whoever came from. Of course this means they can have 2 of the same jewel shard.

Inu Yasha: This Noh Mask seemed to be a rather interesting character yet also bringing another plot twist along with it to the series. The presence of the jewel shards in the present time (Kagome era) could only mean that either something happened to the well at some point to cause it to no longer function before they secured all of the shards, or that the shards have the ability of time passage. As complicated as the search for the shards may seem now, it is quite evident that their enemies will come to them so long as they possess any fraction of the shards. Now if only Kagome's grandfather could come up with better sick leave excuses. :p

Yay! No more annoying Kou! Good 'ol, dramatic, Zeon action (nickname: 0080)!
Mobile Suit Gundam:
Amuro's annoyance is realing showing. His pure naivety is shown through many different aspects. Really really annoying. Anyways, I like it when Ramba Ral and Amuro met 2 times in a row, both inside the battlefield and outside. Kinda gives you a good dramatic tension.

Not really. The only things you need to know are:
1) The Federation and Zeon are at war with each other.
2) It takes place at the end of the One Year War.
3) It takes place on the Side 6 space colony, which is neutral.
Other than that, the story and characters are completely self-contained.

For those having trouble with the time travel implications in this episode there is a simple explanation. The theory of time travel used in this series appears to be the one of time being immotable, in that you can't change the past. Anything you do in the past you have always done in the past.
Hence the jewel shard in the present means that this is one shard that Inuyasha and Kagome don't recover in the past. For whatever reason they will never find that shard back in the past, since they have to have missed it to have recovered it in the future. And notice the dialog with the grandfather mentioning that it was his great grandfather that sealed up this mask. Which implies that the shard got to the present not through the well, but through being missed.
This is also why the future is the same when ever Kagome returns back from the past. Her present is based on her making those trips back to the past including the ones that she will make in the future.
The movie "Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure" uses the same view of time being fixed.

got no pointless comments this week, so right onto the reviews (filled with, uh...pointless comments...)
(note: the run number following the show is my current run through the series, not to be confused with cn's run, etc.)
---
Inuyasha (first run): kind of a strange episode...the present-day background was a nice change, and the character interactions still get me, but the idea of a piece of the jewel in kagome's time period seemed rather strange...the lowest of a great series thus far: B-
Yu Yu Hakusho (first run): the conclusion of the tournament...amazing how yusuke always has something to say, nearly all of it gold...kuwabara's brief appearance was great, and the macho man would be proud of yusuke's finisher: B
Cowboy Bebop (fifth run): a creative episode that succeeds in expanding the bebop universe...the interactions between faye and spike/jet still make me chuckle after all this time: B
Gundam 0083: didn't watch on it's last week...bring on 0080!: no review
Mobile Suit Gundam (first run): i haven't gotten to watch it yet...hopefully i'll find time before the comedy block begins: no review (yet)
[added 11/11] ...a step up from last week, with the unexpected meeting between both sides...with the uncertain future of this show, it's becoming a struggle whether or not to just stop watching before it gets too good (and the tendency is to pull the plug when it reaches that stage): B
Outlaw Star: didn't watch: no review

Y'know, I always wondered why I love Yu Yu Hakusho more than Dragonballz. And today's episode gave me that answer. It had Yusuke talking like a badass that he is. It had some great funny lines. Genkai's personality is portrayed really well (and some good character development from Kuwabara). The fight was decent. And that's about it. It was more of a "spirit level" fight that I love and was interested more than the "power/energy level" fight that I got bored from.
Very true. There's also the fact that if Yu Yu were exactly like DBZ, Yusuke would still be fighting Gouki (the guy who eats souls) -- first form.

Inu-Yasha - I dunno, the manga was probably better, but this was entertaining. A-
Yu Yu Hakusho - This episode was alright, but not one of the best. We really need new eps.
Bebop - Hmm... I HATED this Bebop episode. I just can't stand that old monkey-lady. I never hated any other episodes, including Wild Horses and what-not, but I just can't stand this one. C-
Inu- Standard filler. That being said, the skit with the sandals was pretty funny. B+
MSG- Well, Amuro's little "I'm the hero!" world came crashing down in a big way, and he's now in the brig. Ramba Ral loses his Gouf, but it was more due to Gundam's incredible power than Amuro's skill. With Ramba ready for one last attack, things are heating up a rather stagnant story arc. A-

You've just met Hojo. He's a guy who has fallen hard for Kagome and accepts every last lame excuse her grandpa gives him for her absences. Inuyasha needles Kagome about him occasionally, and she'll stand him up at least twice because of having to go back to the feudal times. Poor sap still adores her, though.

Is it me or did anyone else think the scene in Cowboy Bebop's "Gateway Shuffle" when the space warriors shot everyone and one of them threw this capsule that played this cutesy music while the camera panned on all of the dead people was really funny in a sick sort of way?
I didn't watch the shows before CB, so I'm not gonna review them. :p

IY: B I liked this episode better than the Frog who would be Prince. Kagome isn't a strong enough of a character to hold the show for as long as she did. Shippo was completly absent even though Kagome is now his guardian.
YYH: B Anyone remember the WWF's Ultimate Warrior from the 80's? Rando looks very similar to him.
CB: A- The first few episodes seemed to be lacking that cinematic style directing the later episodes have. This episode is the first to show it.

Actually, in the manga, this episode was written before the Thunder Brothers story arc, so Shippo wasn't around then. It's strange why they decided to air this episode out of order from the manga, but it's probably because they had to take the time to rewrite it so they could make it more TV-friendly.

You know, now that you mention it, you're exactly right. Probably just as crazy too. :)
Maybe it was me, but didn't the monkey lady and her cronies seem awfully similar to Mom from "Futurama"?
