View Full Version : Should Yu Yu Hakusho REALLY be on AS?

I believe that Yu Yu Hakusho should not be on ASA's programming block(s), because it isn't really good for the block. It seemed to get the block removed from Saturday nights. Funimation also had said "we've got the most kids watching", which CN wasn't happy with.
Because of the fact that it was originally designed for the same audience as Dragonball Z was in Japan, it makes the block look like a joke.
I don't think that it should be put on Toonami, because it would no doubt be hacked much worse than Outlaw Star was. However, it also shouldn't stay on ASA (if it comes back in January).
I think WS should convince CN to give the show its own slot, seperate from the other AS shows, but with ASA commercial bumpers intact. It also should have a warning, but one that is used for all of the other shows. It's warning would be something along the lines of "Parental Guidence Suggested", instead of "Mature Audiences Over the Age of 18". That would be great! Got no more time to type.

So what your saying is you don't want Yu Yu Hakusho on Adult Swim because you don't think it's 'adult', you don't want it on Toonami because it will get edited to death, but you want it on CN with AS bumpers and AS warnings and AS edits, but not as an AS show. Yah.............

Don't judge by what you've seen so far. When we get further into the 2nd and 3rd seasons, you'll be saying "Thank GOD it's on AS!"

Yes, YYH should be on AS. The content's not THAT mature, but other than Cowboy Bebop, there aren't very many animes that are. Big O and Cowboy Bebop are the only things that come to mind from "adult anime" that can't also be called hentai.

I probably could have, but for the sake of argument (or lack thereof) I'll just nod and agree.

Yep well said (like they said). YuYu is gonna be great and it would be a crime to make it subject to Toonami's censors.

I just watched a rather graphic scene in episode 23 -- Toguro destroying the monster --- blood spraying all over the place and half the monster's corpse laying on the ground so that you can see it's insides... -- that I'm wondering if they won't have to cut that scene out completely, even on Adult Swim.

Correction: There aren't many animes on CN that are. There's plenty of adult level stuff out there for CN to choose from, like Perfect Blue or Serial Experiments Lain, but in the end that is the very thing keeping them from getting a TV airing.
From the action/comedy animes I've seen, YYH does not rate high on the immaturity level. Because of that, I see no problem with it being on the current version of Adult Swim. Of course in a perfect world where all genres got their shot on CN it probably would be on Toonami instead, but thats not how things work unfortunately :p YYH can stay right where it is, until CN no longer has room for it on the AS block. Regardless of whether it is mature enough, I think we'd all agree that we'd rather see it there than repeats of Outlaw Star and Gundam 0083, right? :p
I like Yu Yu but the reruns are whats killin it,
The settings and characters just agree more with
a younger audience. Some new episodes would be
nice though.
Outlaw Star has followed through with almost all episodes
and still holds it ground unlike the Tenchi series. That
was showed long enough to be nit picked to death. Big O
I don't think was even showed long enough to be appreciated.
0083 is ok but again, reruns are going to kill it as well.
Any program that starts somthing new and has never been
seen before will naturally take some heat about their content.
I think ASA is doing all they can do and I will still enjoy it.
Nothing ever remians the same...
I think Kenshin would suite ASA just fine :D
That's just me though.

I want to set this straight. Yu yu Hakusho is going to get very very very bloody. So many things are cut up that its amazing. Yusuke is even a killer through the entire series. He kills without any regrets. And dont say that he just killed demons so that doesnt count because his friends Hiei and Kurama are demons. This is not like DBZ where they give the bad guys a thiousand chances to back off and then rarely even kill them. This show has very mature topics. Especially when Senisu is brought in. REALLY. TRUST ME.
Although I wouldn't call YYH as being adult animation (and I've already read the whole YYh manga so I know how much "adult" is YYH).
Although YYH isn't adult, most of the later eps of YYH belong to the teen adult section also aimed by CN (ages 14-17).
Most of the stuffs later on deal with teen angst, questions about humanity, and cruelty that will make DBZ cringe.
Although YYH first was made for teens(8-13), it later grew up and was made almost exclusively for teen adults.
Most of the characters later on, main characters or villains, will show personalities that will be far more appropriate for AS.
Their philosophies are really much more suited for AS.
Example:
Toguro's boss, a human character, is a gambler that has tried everything to gamble including his limbs and life. Now he gambles for the fate of humanity by opening the portal between the demon world and human world. Why did he do this? because he wants to gamble something interesting.
These things will get butchered in Toonami.

You've got to be kidding. Cartoon Network (or any other network) will not go to such great lengths to accomodate one show that you don't think is "adult." Adult Swim is the refuge for all the CN stuff that can't make it past the ridiculous standards. Even if it isn't "adult," it's more than regular CN would allow. I'm sure it's hard enough for them to maintain this one isolated Adult block on a children's network -- isolating a show would be more trouble than it's worth.
Besides, how does it make ASA look bad? Who's going to say, "WHAT?!?! This show does not have 20 or more curses per episode! This show does not have 1 or more gallon of blood spilled per episode! This show does not have nudity! HOW DARE THEY!!!!!" Even if the rest of the episodes were as tame as the first season, I'd suggest you just give it a break. And apparently that won't be the case.

As of right now, we don't even know if Yu Yu Hakusho is gonna be on Adult Swim, if at all! People are saying that it will, but where's the proof? I'd rather have the official report than just the word of mouth.
So, really, there is a good chance that Yu Yu Hakusho will go on Toonami.

It would be impossible to edit yyh enough to put it on toonami. There is too much killing. Even if they dont show it, TOO MANY PEOPLE DIE FOR THIS SHOW TO BE ON TOONAMI. OKAY!!!!!

I don't wanna play Devil's Advocate, but there are thousands of deaths in Gundam and they managed around that on Toonami.
But I don't want YYH on Toonami. Keep it on AS. :(

I whole-heartedly agree. I think ripping out a portion of time during Saturday would not be too far-fetched. Simply call it AS and throw in another show like OS, GW, Ronin Warriors, MSG, something, and it would be like Toonami/TMR. That's all there is to it.

That would suck if they took it off of AS. There are still plenty of episodes and I want to see them almost uncut and not cut to shreads!!!! YU YU is definetly a keeper for AS, and it would be stupid to take it off.

Well hopefully CN will buy rights to the next series of episodes. From all the talk about it getting possibly canceled I would assume that no one has a news release stating that they have purched the next set of episodes. Of course in that case they may very well plan have it as part of the weekly night rotation. However, until they have signed the deal, they will not publicize that (as it would be detrimental to their position).

Sure thousands of people died in the Gundam series but they weren't chopped in half with someones bare hands as happens in YYH. I cannot be edited enough for toonami standards

Nor can Toonami allow someone to be frozen, broken into pieces, somehow spew blood from his decapitated, frozen head, and then get his frozen head smashed.
Nor can Toonami allow someone to be stabbed, then grab the sword, causing his hands to bleed profusely, then grab blood from his bleeding stomach and throw it in the villain's evil third eye.
Need I say more?
just look at how they handled the dramatic scenes in DBZ right now.
The massacre of a small town by 2 guys with automatic guns were nowhere to be seen, the death of Hercule shot by the guy with the automatic gun was cut to Hercule just going down, and the massive genocide of the humans from Buu were also cut of the scenes where the people was struck by bolts on their guts.
With this kind of cut in Toonami, we'll never see why Yusuke was so mad at Rando after Rando snapped and broke every bones in Kuwabara's body, and never see why Hiei was so angry at Seiryu after Seiryu killed Bakyo and never see any other dramatic scenes in future YYH eps.
By putting YYH in Toonami, we'll just have another clone of DBZ instead of YYH.

And besides that, Adult Swim couldn't even handle Yusuke's little grope fest with Keiko in the early episodes, what's more if it's on Toonami. I also wonder how they could pull the next big groping from Yusuke, which by the way will occur in the Yukina episodes. It's also a vital part of the episode why he does it.
During the Yukina mission, Yusuke, Kuwabara and Botan face three demons inside Tarukane's massion. The first demon they encountered appears to be a female demon. Kuwabara hesistates to fight the female demon (well because she's female), so Yusuke confronted her - - attacking and groping her at the same time. Yusuke's reason.... to make sure the demon is really a female! Well it turns out the "she" demon is a "he" demon after all. It was soooo hilarious.
I also bet Yu Yu Hakusho is far darker and gorier than Inuyasha. If Inuyasha remains in AS, I don't see why YYH can't. Some of us actually think that maybe the reason CN is hesitating to continue the series is because of these simple factors. I might be wrong, but it's quite possible.
The final word- Keep it on AS.

I'm not a huge Yu YU fan either Its always being compared to Inu Yasha and Cowboy Bebop Which are two excellent shows but something about yu yu seems so fake to me I don't know whether its all the stupid kicking and punching that the main character does or all the cursing and swearing that comes out of his mouth or maybe its that yu yu just dosen't fit with the rest of the shows. Now on the other hand I think that putting it on toonami might really really really hurt the shows ratings for one reason the edited version might be really boring or maybe yu yu and DBZ might be a good combo after all.I also HATE THAT FREAKING STUPID PARENTS STRONGLY CAUTIONED THING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SHOWS what they should do more or less the same thing space cowboy said give it the parental guidence suggested thing or even better kill the whole warning thing altogether.

Yu Yu Hakusho started on Adult Swim and Should End on Adult Swim, also being a high rated show, I don't think CTN would let it slip at all, besides they way Funimation edited it to AS standards it's a good Job...Keep Yu Yu Where it is
