I think you're mixing movies up. Fox is making Ice Age, and I believe the next Animated movie is called Lilo and Stitch, a sci-fi flick.

Oh boy.

Disney: Lilo and Stitch (2002), Treasure Planet (200?), Sweating Bullets (200?), Bears (200?)

PIXAR: Monsters Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (200?)

Those are the definite ones as far as I know.

Pixar's also doing "The Invincibles" with Iron Giant director Brad Bird, but that's waaaaay in the future.

I couldn't resist but post too.

Peter Pan 2: Return to Neverland(Yes, Disney has said this will be a theatrical release) -February 2002

Lilo and Stitch- June 2002

Treasure Planet- Fall 2002, most likely November

Finding Nemo/Disney and Pixar- Summer 2003, most likely June.

Sweating Bullets- 2004 Don't know if it's a summer or fall release.

Country Bears- Is filming now, but not an animated movie. It will be puppets and animatronics courtesy of Jim Henson Studios. Projected release date is 2002 sometime.

BTW, I CANNOT wait for The Invincibles. Too bad it's sooooo far away.

Peter Pan 2?!
AHH!
What is Disney coming too....filming sequels to its classic films....when nobody WANTS to see them! I mean, come on, did Peter Pan need a sequel?
I think Disney is going down the tubes with these ideas...sigh...

Are you kidding? They're planning a Cinderella 2, 101 Dalmations 2 (animated), Mulan 2, Hercules 2 (maybe, not sure), Lion King 3, Tarzan 2 (maybe)....

I really liked the original Peter Pan..if it's done in the same style, and they don't CG the crap out of it (they can do it on PC's..I don't care..just make it look old lookin'), I'd like to see it. But..this is Disney we're talking about..the makers of TOY STORY....

No, and it doesn't need another one. Anybody here remember Hook? Granted, it wasn't animated, and wasn't intended as a sequel to the animated story, but it was a sequel nonetheless.

I'm not too surprised to hear about this, between all of the DTV sequels and the fact that their newer movies have been doing terribly. They are just running out of ideas.

"101 Dalmatians 2"?! All right; that was the straw that broke my back...and theirs! I say we revolt. Boycott D*sn*y until they learn not to ruin their classics like this. Who's with me?

BourgeoisBuffoon
08-28-2001, 12:12 PM
Joe said they are running ot of ideas, and he's probably right. Lion King was RUINED by #2, imagine #3....and didn't they have a 101 Dalmations sequel already?
All these sequels follow the same plot of the first one, we just slap a new face and name on each of the chars.

Lonestar is right....BOYCOTT DISNEY!! Not that it may actually do anything. but that's what writing nasty letters are for...:D

It makes me wonder why Disney is sticking this one in the theater. Most of us know that Toy Story 2 was ORIGINALLY supposed to be a straight to video movie. But the higher ups thought they had another hit on their hands so they changed their idea. And what a good idea too cause now TS2 now currently ranks at number 18 on the top 100 highest grossing list with a nice $245,823,397. The Lion King is ranked number 7 with $312,855,561 and why Disney decided to do straight to video on it's sequel I don't know, unless Disney knew that Lion King 2 sucked and thought they would save themselves some money and a critic bashing.

As for Peter Pan 2 I'm thinking that they're doing this for the same reasons they put TS2 in theaters. But Peter Pan is such a dated movie that I don't think it's gonna do well unless it has one hellava story. And I don't think that's gonna happen. I hope though Disney proves me wrong. On a side note, as I'm looking at the top 100 grossing list, for those that don't know Shrek is currently ranked at number 15 with $257,919,287.

My understading is that Pixar makes their own movies without much influence or interference from Disney. Disney just has a partnership with them, and distrubutes their movies, but Pixar was around before Disney latched up on to them, and I am confident Pixar could live without Disney/.

Peter Pan 2 is dumb! It just won't work. The story was good for like before, but if you watch Peter Pan now, it feels really cheesey and lacking. A Peter Pan 2 woudl stink. Thumbs down!

Tarzan 2 on the other hand, could work. Why? Because they can bring him to the city (no one think of Pocahontas 2 or die!!!) like in the book/movie.

The Invincibles? What's the story on that? Sounds interesting. And with the Iron Giant guy hooked up, it's GOT TO BE A HIT!!!!

Calhoun07
08-28-2001, 07:53 PM
All I know is that the Invincibles is supposed to be some kind of superhero story. At least that is what I have heard. I am not really seeking out any more info about it, as I want to be totally surprised by this. Pixar and Brad Bird...how can we go wrong?

Nightflower

Yeah, Disney's really milking their old franchises dry. All their sequels suck royally (Toy Story 2 doesn't count because it was made by Pixar. I don't think Pixar is the same as Disney, Disney just distributes the movies): Aladdin 2 and 3 (Well, 3 wasn't that bad, but 2 had awful awful songs), Lion King 2 (Romeo and Juliet, much?), Little Mermaid 2 (Exact same story but with chibi Ariel), Lady and the Tramp 2 (Chibi Tramp), Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 (The hunchback finds love...awww..)...

BourgeoisBuffoon
08-28-2001, 09:21 PM
Hunckback of Notre Dame 2?!
Victor Hugo IS rolling in his grave! And if the Hunchback finds love...I shudder if that love is a hunckback as well...

Toy Story 2 was good, primarily, because of the fact both (not just one) of the main chars faced problems and the plot twists (the old fat cowboy is really evil). It was good....and the old "I never had a friend like you" song actually being the theme song of Woody's old show was nice...as well as the Star Wars reference! THAT was GOLD!:D

Sigh...no...the hunchback finds love in a girl not unlike Esmeralda who's different and just doesn't quite fit in.

And Toy Story 2 was made by Pixar!

yeah, toys story too kicked *****. but too bad all the dtv sequals all suck. i mean fine, if disney really wants to make a sequal so bad, okay, but make it right. most of the movies dont even need sequals, and they make it worse by giving it a dumb story, cheesy music, and mediocre animation. if they wanted and took the time to, they could put out some good sequals, and hopefully peter pan 2 will be one of them. i think it could be a really cool movie if they go all out and stuff and make it kind of anime-like like they did with "atlantis". well, maybe not like anime, but make it good. but they wont, it will probably suck, but i hope not...

Toy Story 2's theatrical upgrade might have to do with Disney getting a bigger share that go-around. So the Pixar bunch stretched it a little, but ultimately did a great job. And think of how a TS-inspired OAV was produced anyway.

I think the 'reverse bit' needs to stop with their sequels, at any rate. TS2 did it well, but Lady and the Tramp 2? Bad bad bad... And would someone tell me wtf was up with Chazz Palmieri's character? He really came across as a spurned ex and all...

I've liked all of Toy story's spin off's.

(I like Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.)

Even if they are just there to cash in on a popular franchise, they're still good IMO.

I didn't think Buzz Lightyear's cartoon was as strong as the Toy Story movies, but I did think it's better than the majority of cartoons out there.

Pixar made Toy Story...but, there is a Disney sign in front of the Toy Story's, so therefore, I say Disney owns Toy Story.I never hear "Pixars Toy Story"..I hear "Disney's Toy Store"...has a nicer ring to it too.. :)

that's just my oppinion though..

I like CG animation....I can only think of one CG movie that tanked....

You'd think with the wealth of American folk tales and European literature available, The Mouse Corp. would have more to do than rehash its old successes with sequels featuring the children of past heroes.
A Tarzan sequel? Why am I thinking of Crocodile Dundee in a loincloth?
My hopes of seeing The Mouse do a good faithful take on Shakespeare or Dante or Homer are waning considerably...though there's still Dreamworks....

Yeah! I wish they'd bother making a movie with some of the ORIGINAL Disney cast in it....I'd see the movie if it had Goofy and Mickey in it! Instead, it's like movies are showing us the horros of cloning with all these sequels!:p

Sigh....Disney's lost it.

Once again, I feel we should boycott the suckas for their irresponsible attitude toward their classics.

Also, I agree with you about a project featuring the original cast. "A Goofy Movie" was not only a good start, but a breath of fresh air.

"Bambi 2: This Time It's Personal"?

Pinocchio 2: The Wrath of Gepetto"?

Dumbo 2: Attack of the Clowns"?

The only one I can imagine having a sequel is "The Great Mouse Detective," and only because it's based on a series featuring a continuing character.

Okay, don't they have anything better to do??? Disney must seriously be running out of ideas if they can't think to work on aything but sequels. I mean, I haven't minded some of the sequels they've done, but I think I'd be more interested in checking out something new than risk ruining a good classic movie by seeing a uneeded sequel.

Of course, some of the ideas for sequels you guys have mentioned sound intersting...;)

I remember reading snide cracks in the industry press when "Pocahontas" came out: "What's next? 'Lewis and Clark: The Movie'?"

Actually, I think I'd rather see that than some of these sequels. . .

Yeah! Gargoyles was new when I was in 7th and 8th grade. I loved that show! My friends and I talked about it all the time.

I've always been interested with mythical and supernatural elements presented against the normalcy of the present, as in Gargoyles, Highlander, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Princess Bride, The Golden Child, Big Trouble in Little China and others. It's true escapism.

Gargoyles was great in that it didn't limit itself to the constraints of one genre. It was an action show, a cop show, swords an scorcery, melodrama, superhero, tragedy, love stories; it was at times epic, as in the Avalon continuity and other times very self contained like the X-files stuff with Elisa's new partner and the "Illuminate." There was a lot of great stuff in that series. I miss it a lot.

It consisted of the first 5 episodes editted down to 90 minutes. How do you get around explaining that? "Oh, you can get more footage by taping it off tv but you can't get the video boardgame with dubbed clips with it?"
