In first through 6th grade I was the tallest person in my class even taller than the boys (by about 5 inches) but 7th and 8th grade I suddenly just stopped growing. I thought I was gonna be about 5'11'' by the time of highschool or somthin' but I'm not, I'm 5'6''1/2 and I feel so dang short. any clue what happened? My friend was with me on the tall scale in the lower grades too, but she kept growing!!!! I'm so sad...

That happened to me, too. Everyone probably got growth spurts, seeing as how those happen often at that age.

I am truly sorry for you. I went through just the opposite. I was VERY short when I was younger, and my whole family thought I was only going to end up about 5'2. I showed them!!!!
5'8! :D
But being short isn't the end of the world, so don't you worry about it! :)

Yes, short people--short men in particular--are screwed. While I don't consider myself super short, I do wonder if my height has anything to do with how people perceive me at times (I'm about 5'8). As evidenced by my "height and dating" thread, it is obvious that the majority of females prefer tall men.
I have always wondered if looks mattered as I have seen many popular ugly guys, but after considerable research and readings of statistical national polls on height preference, there is no doubt in my mind now that tall ugly guys will always be more popular than handsome short guys, unless your name is Tom Cruise.

That's a pretty average height for a girl, you're a girl correct? And how old are you? You still could be in for a growth spurt. Some people shoot up when they're younger and that's about as tall as they'll get, others slowly grow a bit each year, while others will go years at one height and then over the summer shoot up a good couple of inches. The body is random like that, but it also could depend on your parents. How tall is your mom and dad? My mom's 5'3" and my dad's 6', so I knew I would most likely be in the middle of that or closer to one height then the other, and I am, I'm 5'4". Whereas my sister is 5'6", which is more in the middle. Depending on how old you are, like younger then 18, it's still possible to have growth spurts.

Don't be sad!! Being 5'6'' at the age of what, 15 or 16? Is already tall enough. I'm 5'2" as a freshman and yeah, I do feel short around people, but that all just depends on your genetics from your family and so. There is no wrong or right hight for every single person no matter what age, still at the age of under 18-24(?- somewhere around there) you could still grow. Just keep strong, healthy, and drink a lot of milk. ;)

5'6" would be short for a guy, but not for a girl, that's still pretty average, whereas the average height for a guy was once 5'10" now it would probably be something like 6'2", which would make me short by two inches. :p
I stopped growing early, too.

Gosh, I can't say what happened to me, I probably grew about 5 to 6 inches in a couple of years. I'm 16 at about 6'4".

Well I'm nearing 6 foot, but I'm a slow grower and stuff.
