View Full Version : Net Withdrawl

Not going on the net of my own volition is one thing, but when it's forced upon me, it's downright cruel! The computer decided to go sick last night, but luckily we were able to get a computer repair guy to come over today. It took the entire day to get it fixed, and though I had plenty of studying to do, I kept veering to the computer room out of habit and it was so frustrating that the modem wasn't there. And as an added aggravation, mom had him take off the old AOL program we had, and he took AIM along with it by mistake...I had so many names! Oh well :( So does anyone else go through net withdrawl? How do you deal with it when you don't freely choose to not go on the net for a while?

The word is WITHDRAWAL -- also, how many times has this been a topic?

Now that's not very fair, computer withdraw(a)l is a serious thing and you can't expect a person to remember every spelling when they're going through a crisis such as that, especially on a word like that which they may have to spell out very often. :D

I had to check the dictionary to make sure--otherwise, I would have thought that "withdrawl" was the correct spelling as well.

I'm on the net 2 or 3 hours a day depending on what else I have to do and when our internet is messed up I just play some video games, no big deal. When the electricity is out, well that's totally different. That's sleep all day time for me...

For an english major you'd think I'd know how to spell the word correctly. I swear I spell it wrong every single darn time! Withdrawl=withdrawal, thanks for pointing that out Terminatah. *goes and copies the word 100 times for memory's sake* not that it'll help :p And thanks for the backup JediGreedo ;) Thankfully the net withdrawal wasn't so bad. The AIM crisis was resolved, turns out the name saves everything on it, preferences, buddy sounds and the buddy list. I didn't know that previously, so besides having to redownload, all was well. One problem with net withdrawal is that it's not just happening to one person...dad got on the computer first when it was all better, because he knew it would be hours before he could get to it if I got to it first!

Hey, if we spell it "withdrawl" enough, eventually the dictionary will change. They change as the language does.
I mean, geez, you guys already dropped the "U" in "colour", didn't ya? :D
As for the computer withdrawl - I've gone through a self-imposed withdrawl lately. I'm just burnt out with work and school that when I come home I just go to bed. *COLLAPSES* When it's forcefully taken away, however, it sucks, big time; I remember that happened to me for 10 days after my hard drive crashed a few years back, and that was utter hell. :p

It's tough Barb I had a forced withdrawal in the summer. It's different to just losing Toonzone. Not being able to even IM, email or browse. I got very fidgety and tense.
Actually I got some last week when I forgot the network rooms closed early. I was just geared up for a spat on the boards. Boy was I miffed! I had to actually go and sociallise somewhere else..!

I noticed that. I was hoping my excessive use of the word colour on the drawing board may change that and start a trend!
PS: Better watch your spelling Terminatah bud, there will be many people watching you to slip!! :D

Never. I often find myself wanting to be online less and less. Even when I'm getting paid and can jack around on that time. I don't have much to do, other than read a few news sites, Ivy fan club, and this board. I of course have no friends to keep me company online. No one likes the undead :(

People in the southern states have computer withdrawl... (groan)
Anyway, my withdrawal would be limited to missing my daily playing of NBA Virtual GM and a bit of chatting, so that's not too bad. OH! And coming here... :)

I do get sad if I can't come on here at least once a day. Usually it's once a NIGHT though. :D
