View Full Version : Worst thing you ever done on the Internet

I know that all of us have had or are having experiences outside this board on other boards or in chat rooms, and maybe we haven't been quite so well behaved as we are on Toon Zone. Or maybe we just made foolish mistakes and learned out lessons and learned to fly right.
When I got on AOL back in the early days, I would log into chat rooms and usually private chat rooms. First off, private chat's were easy to find. I'd type in a girl's name (ie, Britney's Chat) and eventually find a room actually called that were a girl and a boy were talking privately and I'd pretend I was invited by the girl thru IM and the boy would invariably get angry and curse the girl out.
Then there was always the fun of imitating screen names. There was this girl online I targeted named Sassylol. Only for the "lol", I used IOI, but on AOL the capital i's looked like uppercase L's. In a now legendary session in a private chat room called "First Church," I was SassyIoI, but to the people there, they thought I was Sassylol. Sassylol was in there and her boyfriend was in there and so were about 22 other people, and I started to thank my boyfriend for such an incredible weekend and...well, maybe I can't get into all that I said on Toon Zone ;) but I still do have the chat saved on my computer, it was so memorable. What made it all the more fun is that Sassy and her boyfriend believed I was some kid named Tim and Sassy's boyfriend threatened to beat me up and I dared him and told him I'd like to see him try. I can only imagine what poor Tim went thru the next day when Sassy's boyfriend caught up with him! And I learned later on that Sassy and her boyfriend broke up as a result of this.
In another infamous instance, there was somebody else on this private board that had a name I liked to imitate, but this guy was not all that bright to figure out that was what I was doing and was convinced I was logging in as him on AOL (even when he was on at the same time) and threatened to sue me for hacking into his account, and feared I had access to his credit card number. He actually got a subpeona to have AOL release my log in times from my computer to proove his point, which obviously wasn't proven. He just proved he was a moron who wasted money on a lawyer.
Since that time, AOL developed a rule that members cannot imitate screen names of other members, and I'd like to think I was a pioneer in helping them create that rule!

When I first went online, I thought it would be fun to say what I want, anything I want. I quickly realized that even the internet has its own unique rules in order for people to coexist, even though moderators were quite lax back in the day. My first online "talk" experience was the Korealink message boards, which had a variety of forums for various topics. I thought it was the most advanced forum in the internet at the time.
However, many members left, and I found it not so fun anymore. I'm not sure if it's still running. I drifted onto Usenet for a while, a few animation boards here and there, and eventually settled into Toonzone and Animeondvd.

Once me and my friend (The Owner Of A Board) Were IMing each other and I pretended to not know what happened on 9-11 I told him I was kidding and he got pissed and banned me from the board but before that he posted the whole thing and called me a jackass causing the whole board to hate me.

When I first got the internet at home, I signed up for a few different message boards, most of which I acted like a drunk idiot at. I haven't been back since, thankfully.

I can never understand why some males pose as females. I certainly wouldn't want some geek lusting over my messages.

The worst net thing I've done was not thinking when I gave my screen name and password out. It was some stupid notice about some guy sending me a card, and really did think it was from a guy friend at school because we did things like that. So when it asked me for that info I just didn't think. Turned out it was a front for a porno site thingy and suddenly AOL was calling me about taking me off AOL because my screen name (in old one now, obviously) was being reported to them for advertising porn. I was mortified and my mom was pissed to high heaven! I had to totally get rid of my screen name and figure out a new one, not to mention IM'ing all my friends just in case "I" was sending them these X-rated IM's.

I try to promote myself as being a nice guy and I am in most cases, but I'm starting to realize that I'm actually about 35% criminal/jerk.
What have I done on the internet? Well, I...
1. Looked at porn
2. Bought illegal movies
3. Played roms without having the original copies
4. Made bids on ebay without the intention to pay
5. Made another account on ebay when the first one was banned
6. Harrassed people in chat rooms
7. Pretended to be female in dating chat rooms
8. Pretended to be gay in gay chat rooms
9. Pretended to be a girl's stalker in a Nintendo chat room
10. Pretended to be Satan in a Nintendo chat room
11. Done the...cyber...thing.
12. Bought illegal copies of video games
13. Used hacked internet accounts

Wow. That's just plain wrong. I never knew how much I did until it was all written down. That really puts it in perspective. I'm downright evil! That's why God hates me!!! *sobs* No he doesn't. Let me stop joking like that. But you gotta admit. That's one hell of a record. Now, tell me. Am I brutally honest or am I brutally honest?

I used to go into private chat rooms on AOL all the time hoping to find a potential boyfriend. Funny thing is that the one man who is now my soul mate wasn't met through a chat room. I e-mailed him about his web site on Animaniacs and when we found out we were kinda in the same town (I was going to school there at the time), he suggested we meet up...and...well, the rest is history. :)
That's basically the worst thing I've ever done on the Internet...at least my mom would think so. She was all worried about me because of all the news reports of girls running off to meet guys they met on the internet and then ending up dead.

Worst this I've done to someone who didn't deserve it would be my role in the chaos that engulfed the old CNX boards. Those of you who were there know what I'm talking about, those who wern't there really don't need to know. It was just ugly, and I still regret doing it.

When I first got on and found endless porn at my finger tips I went wild.
This was about 1995.
Me and all my friends went to college and had our first experience with the internet and our reaction......
Throughout our college days the boxes on our desks weren't computers. They were referred to as the "Porn Machines." (http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3)
:p

Wow I thought what I did was wrong but compared to you guys I'm a saint
I'm also an owner of a "Porn Machine"
I was 12, and I posted at a Final Fantasy message board a few years ago. Of course, I acted like a complete jerk, and I eventually got my whatfor and I got shamed into leaving. I soon joined a Mario message board, and I cleaned up my act there, but I haven't been back tot he FF board in years...
I don't think they'd accept my apologies.
But I still feel really, really bacd about that. :(
And then there was the time I got into a flame war with an ex-friend of mine, but the less said the better.

Erm, I used to go into English Football chatrooms on AOL and pretend to be from American asking where the real football was and that they were talking about soccer which was football for girls etc.. generally be a nuisance. It wasn't clever, but it was funny. English people do have a problem with Americans calling their game soccer and their own football. I've grown up since...

Hypotheticaly: I'd tell you, but then I'd be open to criminal prosecution.
Note: I do not admit to anything in this post.
Although there is a possability that I may know things about network security and the breeching thereof.
(I also do the regular guy thing online, Although I'm more partial to Stories/Lemons than Visuals.)

I will only post the most tame of what I have done. First their is the obligatory porn and second this guy was constanly annoying me and asking questions. I was on AOl so I made a new screen name and sent an E-Mail saying basically I lived next door and when he went to sleep I would come into his house and kill him. Then It turned out he was a she and that she was nine years old. So she really belived it and was really scared and my AOL account was terminated. There was other stuff I did but won't go into.

I heard this story from one of my current classmates: These 2 guys from different parts of the country went into a lesbian chatroom to pick up girls under the pretense of being female. To make a long story short, they started writing to eachother, began to fall in love, and eventually planned to meet- all the time thinking the other was a girl. And yet when they found out they were both guys, they hooked up as they'd planned. Isn't that cute?

And that was back in the day you could type in ANYTHING in a search engine and porn sites would come up all the time. I remember typing in names of KIDS cereals to test the theory and was surprised to see porn sites listed in the search results BEFORE the offical site for the cereal was listed. "Trix" was one that particuarly matched several, several porn sites.

I used to be on a chatserver which started hosting this room for a site that I joined, pretty popular place then, and since I had been on the server awhile and was "popular" on there I thought I was everything and above everyone. Well some stuff started going on and I started using the place for easy sympathy, like saying I would commit suicide any day or something. I eventually got banned because people just weren't gonna put up with it anymore, I thought I was invincible on there and so I just kept going back and going back under different aliases till eventually I just stopped. I lost a lot of friends from that.
